David Boulter grew up in Nottingham, England, with a love of music from an early age.
"I absorbed everything: the pop on the radio and television; my dad's love of country music and marching bands; the school headmaster's love of classical composers and Simon and Garfunkel.
"My first experience in making my own music was inspired by the post punk and electronic sounds of the late Seventies that I found so liberating. Just getting into a room and making a noise really."
David left Nottingham in 1990 and moved to London. Shortly after tindersticks formed and David began a life of making much more than 'just a noise'.
With tindersticks he has made many albums, soundtracks and interesting side projects.
He also makes his own albums and soundtracks. He has composed music for television, film and advertising.
