A disaster from 2010, Noah Ringer’s The Last Airbender was a disappointing live adaptation of the much-adored source material, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The animated show was aired for the first time in 2005 and it instantly became a fan favorite, as fans adored the show for three seasons. While the film had a plethora of things wrong with it, one of the most visibly wrong things present in the film was the casting.

In the show, the characters were from different races, but in the film the characters were whitewashed, making the film an eyesore. Noah Rider portrayed the role of Aang, the last Airbender who had a difficult time surviving epic flop, and it was his passion that saved him from falling into the depths of depression.

This adaptation of the beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender did not, it’s fair to say, connect in the way that everyone hoped. The story follows Aang (Noah Ringer), a child “avatar” able to channel the four elements, who became frozen in a block of ice and doomed the four nations to fall out of harmony – until he’s thawed out and forced to confront his destiny.

The film loosely-based on the “Mrs. Peppercorn’s Magical Reading Room” short has cast Jodelle Ferland, Noah Ringer and Michael Eklund. Screenwritten by Mike Le Han and his spouse Helen, the story tells of a teen girl who moves back to Black Lake with her parents and, after meeting the son of a local baker, discovers dark secrets which reveal that she could be the key to saving humanity. The fantasy took home best short film at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles in 2011. Apparently, production is being targeted for a February, 2014 start date in locations within the U.S. and Hungary. in the U.S. and Hungary.

If you follow our Twitter feed (@CinemaSpy) you’ll know that a couple of days ago we promised you the specs for the December 6 Blu-ray and DVD release of Cowboys & Aliens.

Forgive our tardiness but our stagecoach was delayed a day by a washed out road and the 1G wi-fi at the nearest saloon was spotty at best. Hence, it’s taken us a bit longer than expected to reach the best Western (Ok, bad joke). Anyway, here are the full details.

According to Universal, the Blu-ray combo pack release will include and extended edition of the John Favreau-directed sci-fi western while the DVD will have the theatrical version. As far as we can tell, the extended edition includes roughly 17 minutes of extra footage but we’ve no idea what that shows. As for Bonus Features, here’s the list:

I just watched it,and thought it was way better than I had anticipated it to be. The theater was also surprisingly packed,which made me think this movie is a pretty huge deal. When I first saw the preview for Cowboys and Aliens, it was in a packed theater for the weekend showing of Harry Potter. The audience roared with laughter when the spaceship appeared over the quaint and desolate western town. Secretly I thought to myself...”Cowboys And aliens? Yes!” but on the outside I joined in the raucous laughter anyways. “Cowboys And aliens? How ridiculous ha ha!”......

No one involved with the making of this picture ever settled on exactly what they were making. A lighthearted summer action film? No way: too violent and grim. A serious Western revenge film? Nope: too soft and bloodless. A mystery? Nah: too many questions are left unanswered at the end. A character study of life on the frontier? Surely you jest. "Cowboys & Aliens" is just this vague, undefined blob of a movie: all of the above, and none of them convincingly.

Befitting the film's lack of specificity, it's set not in any particular time or place but in a generic stereotype-laden mining town called Absolution; this is "The Old West," not the old west. There we meet a man played by Daniel Craig, who wakes in the middle of the desert...

Take scrappy Wild West folk and pit them against interstellar aggressors, and what should you get? With Jon Favreau directing, you might expect something smart, fast-paced and fun. After all, Favreau's Elf endeared Will Farrell to audiences who had no appreciation for the man -- no small feat -- and Iron Man and Iron Man 2 were both satisfying summer blockbusters. Unfortunately, Cowboys & Aliens has more in common with Snakes on a Plane than with Iron Man.

The concept of "cowboys versus aliens" couldn't be simpler, but the movie plods along with too many subplots. Understandably, archetypal western characters abound. Daniel Craig's broody, silent stranger upsets the uneasy peace of a dirtwater town run by a dictatorial cattle baron, Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). Townspeople like saloonkeeper Doc (Sam Rockwell) suffer the patronage of Dolarhyde's spoiled, mercurial son (Paul Dano), thanks in part to worshipful ranch hand Nat Colorado (Adam Beach). Movie Box Office should see Cowboys & Aliens and Captain America top Universal Pictures' unleashes their science fiction westerner Cowboys & Aliens into 3,750 locations, directed by Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau. Pic should go top of the box office charts with a cast including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Clancy Brown, Noah Ringer, Adam Beach and Abigail Spencer. Symbolically, that might suggest a certain strength, but in truth it means the filmmakers couldn't have played it any safer. The story is a weak hodgepodge of ideas riding past the point of homage clear into Cliché County. The crisp, colorful visuals likewise present an unmemorable wallpaper of established western and science fiction iconography devoid of individual vision. It's a clear case of too many cooks. Credited to a screenwriting seven, their conglomerated output is anything but magnificent. With a cast of caricatures that includes an amnesiac outlaw (Daniel Craig), a bumbling medicine man (Sam Rockwell), and a grizzled cattle rancher (Harrison Ford), director Jon Favreau...

It is telling that there are five credited screenwriters on Jon Favreau‘s latest blockbuster, Cowboys & Aliens. Based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg‘s comic-book Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby all share script credit for the film. By the last act, the entire thing feels crafted from a “science-fiction for dummies” book. That said, before it all falls apart, the populist Iron Man director attempts to create an authentic western tone and almost nails it.

Daniel Craig plays Jake Lonergan, a cowboy who wakes up in 1875 New Mexico with no recollection of his past. As he enters the town of Absolution he encounters the town bully played by Paul Dano, whose dad is Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). The two get in some trouble and are sent to a bigger prison in Sante Fe. That is, until the aliens come and attack.
