Exclusive: Mpi Media Group has acquired international sales right to U.S. found footage horror film Followed.
In the indie pic, a controversial social media influencer stays at a cursed hotel to gain more subscribers. But what begins as a fun investigative challenge quickly descends into a personal hell. Followed was released two weeks ago in North America, where in a coronavirus context it has been a top ten movie at the box office, accumulating more than $300,000 from only 44 theaters at widest point of release. The film has had particular success at drive-ins, according to producers.
The film stars Matthew Solomon (Ballers), John Savage (The Deer Hunter), Sam Valentine, Caitlin Grace, Tim Drier, and Kelsey Griswold. It was directed by Antoine Le, written by Todd Klick and produced by Matthew Ryan Brewbaker, each making their feature debuts.

It’s seldom that a found-footage horror movie pulls some new tricks in that overtaxed subgenre, and “Followed” runs no risk of being any such exception to the tedious rule. Sewing together ideas borrowed from other, better movies — notably “Grave Encounters” and “The Shining” — without exactly making a new whole, let alone lending them any novel flair or intensity, this vloggers-in-a-haunted-hotel opus isn’t really any better than 1967’s Ferlin Husky vehicle “Hillbillies in a Haunted House.” And that movie probably looked better at drive-ins, given its use of camera tripods and such.
As yet unreleased in home formats, Antoine Le’s feature is already playing on 40-odd U.S. drive-in and hardtop screens, adding another couple dozen this Friday. Watching low-budget horror cheese al fresco was surely better when the movies didn’t look as if they were shot to be watched on your laptop.

Exclusive: Steven Spielberg’s 1993 movie Jurassic Park was No. 1 for the fourth time in its release history this past weekend as movie theaters tried to have a semblance during the Covid-19 pandemic over what is typically a big moviegoing weekend, Father’s Day.
While 2020 fare like Universal/Dreamworks Animation’s Trolls World Tour had been leading at a still distressed box office for 9 weekends (with the exception of last weekend when The Invisible Man returned to the top of the chart), catalog titles dominated the majority of this weekend with Universal’s Jurassic Park earning $517,6K at 230 sites and the studio’s Jaws taking $516,3K at 187 locations. Those respective No. 1 and 2 weekend takes are improvements upon last weekend’s Invisible Man at $383K and Trolls World Tour with $275,7K.
Jurassic Park held the No. 1 spot at the box office in its first three weekends of release following its June 11, 1993 opening.

"Looks like the Korean Elevator Game is indeed a big hoax." Global View Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie horror film called Followed, yet another horror film mixing social media mania with ghosts. We've seen way too many of these kind of films recently, and they never turn out any good. To gain more subscribers, a controversial social media influencer named "DropTheMike" stays at a cursed hotel ("one of the most haunted hotels in America") to terrifying results. What a remarkably unoriginal concept that won't scare anyone. Followed stars Matthew Solomon, John Savage, Sam Valentine, Tim Drier, Caitlin Grace, Kelsey Griswold, and Christopher Ross Martin. Why do all of these found footage horror films look the same, with all the usual cliche, cheesy moments and jump scares and boring ghost surprises. Ugh. Here's the new official trailer (+ first poster) for Antoine Le's Followed, direct from YouTube...
