Joyce Datiles is a multidisciplinary artist, writer / director, producer and academic historian based in the UK. She was recently selected for the TV Collective's 2024 Breakthrough Leaders cohort sponsored by BBC Studios, AmazonPrime, Sky, ITV and Fremantle. She was awarded the Folger Shakespeare Institute Fellowship as an artist-in-residence to write her Elizabethan-era television show, THE LANDLORD'S DARK-HAIRED DAUGHTER, previously developed with the Sundance Institute. Joyce is currently in development of a VR game and series based on her award-winning historical fantasy script, MOON FIGHT with Media Cymru, supported by BBC Wales and Future Fantasy Arts.
Joyce is a producer for the independent, mixed-media art collective, The Spectacle Makers Productions based in Somerset House, London which she co-founded with her longtime collaborator and producer, the award-winning musician DEAR DAYSTAR. Her experimental art films have screened at Cannes, Sundance, Open City Docs, Vogue, PRADA, TATE Modern and Saatchi Art. Her work has been praised as 'favorite of the night' (BritFilms at Cannes), 'a moving piece' (UK Music Video Awards jury, The Shiny Awards) and 'best film that captures human possibility' (United Nations World Youth Alliance Film Festival, New York).
Joyce is an alum of Torino Film Lab, Sundance Documentary Lab, BAFTA Connect, Cambridge Film Festival Writers Lab, Young Vic Theatre Directors, The Other Room Theatre x Bad Wolf TV Emerging Writers and DirectorsUK Inspire, where she was mentored by Emmy Award winner and three time BAFTA-nominated film and television director, Isabelle Sieb. She is still the youngest person at sixteen to be accepted onto the American Film Institute (AFI) Documentary Film Production workshop with SilverDocs and the Discovery Channel.
A fierce champion for gender equality, she has been an official delegate to UN Women for the Commission on the Status of Women in New York representing the UK since 2021, her advocacy focusing on diversity and equal representation on and off the screen of marginalized peoples and cultures.
