Caine Spinoff From John Wick Franchise ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski created the John Wick universe, a fantastic film franchise. Since the first film, John Wick has been an indispensable part of pop culture media. Four movies deep, we are immersed in the lore of this hitman and his challenges after returning to the criminal world.
While fans expect a fifth movie in the franchise, the makes have a different view on continuing the story. To continue events in the John Wick universe, the makers have a few spinoffs and new storylines in the works. So far, we have seen the three-part drama series The Continental, which focuses on a young Winston rising to power in the 1970s.
There is technically a soon-to-be-released fifth John Wick film, but it isn’t about John Wick. Ana de Armas will be seen as Eve Macarro, a ballerina-assasin in John Wick: Ballerina.

I Come in Peace… You Go in Pieces!
So goes one of the coolest one-liners I have ever heard, and it’s part of one of the most unheralded Christmas action movies ever. Now, Christmas action movies have always been a thing. Something about the juxtaposition of the holidays and ultra-violent action has always been irresistible to Hollywood. In movies like First Blood and To Live and Die in LA, the holiday theme makes the desperately violent scenario all the more grim. At the same time, other classics like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard ultimately have Christmas messages about friendship and family that come through just as strongly as in a straight-up Christmas movie like It’s a Wonderful Life.
Yet, not every Christmas action flick becomes a classic, which brings me to this special Christmas edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw, where we tackle the Dolph Lundgren Actioner I Come In Peace,...

Sandra Bullock almost killed Michael Caine? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Sandra Bullock nearly turned Miss Congeniality into a murder mystery—and Michael Caine was almost the victim. The actress recently confessed that the legendary British star had a near-death experience during filming when he fell into an unmarked stage pit. Talk about a plot twist no one saw coming!
Sharing the wild moment on the About Last Night podcast, Sandra explained that a bright light was shining on Caine when he suddenly vanished—straight into the abyss. “He could’ve sued us, but he didn’t,” she admitted, still marveling at his grace under pressure. The crew freaked out, of course, but the ever-classy Caine brushed it off like a pro.
How did he bounce back? Quite literally. Sandra called him “a beast” who recovered so fast it was almost supernatural. Fun fact: acupuncturists on set “jumped on him” and left him feeling “bright as rain.

Our odyssey through the work of Michael Caine reaches a grim nadir: the 1984 comedy Blame It On Rio. Brace yourselves, readers.
Michael Caine showed no sign of slowing down as he entered his third decade as a leading man. The 1980s would see him win his first Academy Award (Hannah and Her Sisters), tackle new genres such as horror (The Hand) and shark-based revenge movie (Jaws: The Revenge) whilst continuing to work with interesting new auteurs like Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill) as well as old friends from classic Hollywood such as John Huston (Escape to Victory).
Film by film, I’ll be taking a look at Caine’s 1980s filmography to see what hidden gems I can unearth alongside the more familiar classics…

Tom Cruise has been in all corners of the film industry. He has tried genres and characters, explored every kind of director, and been in everything from a blockbuster film to a box-office bomb. Considering how well-experienced he is, it is not surprising that his talent has gained him the one honor higher than being loved by critics in Hollywood: being respected by one’s peers.

At 91 and with more than 70 years(!) in the industry, Michael Caine has obviously come across some of the most powerful talents to ever hit the screen. But one that stood out even at the start of his career was Tom Cruise, who Michael Caine remembers as a dynamic, eager up-and-comer who wanted to make a name in Hollywood.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, Michael Caine recalled the first time he met Tom Cruise. “I’ve known Tom for more than 40 years. We were doing a big event for Educating Rita (1983) and I turned around and there was this young actor, very polite, asking questions about how not to be just a flash in the pan. That was Tom, probably around the time of Risky Business.” Keep in mind that Cruise was just now trying to get his movie stardom going, with 1983 being his real breakout year after supporting roles in...

Legendary British actor Sir Michael Caine recently shared his memory of meeting a young Tom Cruise over 40 years ago, offering insight into the dedication that has fueled Cruise’s success. In a new interview promoting his memoir, Caine recounted an encounter with Cruise around 1983 after the premiere of Caine’s film “Educating Rita.”
At the time, Cruise was just breaking out with his role in “Risky Business” but was remarkably humble and inquisitive. “I turned around and there was this polite young actor asking me questions about avoiding being a one-hit wonder,” Caine said. While he can’t recall his exact advice, Caine remarked it clearly served Cruise well as his star rose quickly.
Even early in his career, Caine saw Cruise’s special qualities. “He had a great attitude and self-assurance for someone just starting out,” Caine observed. Today, Cruise remains one of the few true movie stars people...

Michael Caine has shared that a young Tom Cruise asked him for career advice when the pair first met 40 years ago.
Double Oscar winner Caine, now 91, has penned his memoir called “Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over” and in an interview with The Sunday Times newspaper he revealed that he met the future superstar at an event for Caine’s film Educating Rita, back in 1983.
The British actor recalled:
“I turned around and there was this young actor, very polite, asking questions about how not to be just a flash in the pan. That was Tom, probably around the time of Risky Business.
“I can’t remember what I said, but it obviously didn’t do him any harm! There was something special about him. He had a great attitude, this sense of poise. What interests me is that he is really one of the last true stars in movies.

Eva Longoria has developed quite a business savvy over the years, but she still has some regrets.
After making “more than double” her $6 million investment on John Wick after it debuted in 2014, the Golden Globe nominee admitted she wishes she would have continued on with the wildly successful franchise that recently marked its 10th anniversary.

Not Cillian Murphy! 2-Time Oscar Winning British Actor Has Appeared in Most Christopher Nolan Movies
Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy are synonyms of the Hollywood industry. One of the biggest directors of the 21st century and the Oscar-winning Irish star of modern cinema has an iconic partnership that goes beyond working together professionally. Nolan and Murphy have worked on some of the biggest projects such as Inception, Oppenheimer, Batman Begins, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight Rises. While Murphy’s unbelievable acting performances in Nolan’s movies have been universally acclaimed, the Peaky Blinders star isn’t the one who has most appeared in Nolan movies.

Action fans can thank Eva Longoria for one of the highest-grossing movie franchises of the last decade.
In a recent interview for the movie’s 10th anniversary, the producers of John Wick revealed how the Golden Globe nominee came through when they lost nearly $6 million in financing for the first in the four-film franchise.
“We were less than a week out, and we lost almost $6 million on a gap financing,” explained Chad Stahelski to Business Insider. “We were financing independently to get the bond, but one of the investors couldn’t raise the money in time.”
As CAA was pulling together the funding, they offered some of their own actors the opportunity to invest. In return, they would be the first to get paid back. The deal ultimately resulted in Longoria’s first major producer credit.

Ten years ago, John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski helped give birth to one of cinema’s most prolific assassins and, in turn, one of the industry’s most unlikely franchises.
As Keanu Reeves’ stunt double on The Matrix and the martial arts stunt coordinator for its sequels, Stahelski can attest to the star’s unique relationship with his stunt teams. His gift-giving and overall generosity have been well documented, and when future John Wick co-director David Leitch joined the second and third Matrix chapters as a stuntman, the three of them bonded to the point where Reeves began to track Stahelski and Leitch’s ambitions as business partners and aspiring filmmakers. Years earlier, in 1997, Stahelski and Leitch founded their company, 87Eleven, to be a one-stop shop for action design and stunt training, all while climbing the ranks as stunt performers, fight choreographers, stunt coordinators and second-unit directors. (In 2019, Leitch branched off with 87North.

If you are looking for a taste of Britain, I recommend trying out Marmite under the rain, or giving “The Italian Job” a watch – although that second option is probably safer. The caper film “The Italian Job” came out more than half a century ago, in 1969 to be precise. It was directed by Scottish filmmaker Troy Kennedy Martin and became a cult classic in the UK almost immediately. Unfortunately, the movie is not nearly as famous overseas, but it definitely deserves its cult status and is worth (re)watching. If you enjoyed “Ocean’s Eleven” (2011) and the other films of the saga, this is the perfect pick for you.
Iconic characters and brilliant performances
Moviegoers enjoy a good heist story: after all, few things are funnier than seeing a resourceful criminal meticulously planning out a con – especially since we all like to root for the underdog. “The Italian Job” gives us all of this and more.

In the mid-nineties, after a short-lived resurgence of three hit movies, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man and The Specialist, Stallone’s career as a bankable action star began to sputter, with Judge Dredd, Assassins and Daylight all losing money. Copland, an indie drama directed by James Mangold, made money and earned Stallone his best reviews since the original Rocky, but his follow-up movies were disastrous. His attempt at a slasher/ horror movie, D-Tox, sat on the shelf for years, finally being released under the lame title Eye See You. His 2000 remake of Get Carter was another disaster, with critics eviscerating him for remaking the Michael Caine classic, with even a cameo from Caine himself not easing their fury. In 2001, he teamed with Cliffhanger’s Renny Harlin on a go-for-broke would-be blockbuster called Driven.

The Amazing Digital Circus introduces viewers to a fascinating yet unsettling scenario. Debuting on YouTube in late 2023, this animated series expands on an imaginative premise that has clearly resonated with massive global audiences. Created by talented director Gooseworx for studio Glitch Productions, known for works like Murder Drones, the show follows the experience of those trapped inside an unexplainable digital world.
The core concept centers around a group of individuals who suddenly find themselves existing as animated avatars within a bizarre virtual circus, unable to recall how they arrived or discover any means of departure.
Forced to entertain an unknown control through strange tasks and performances, they face an unknowable fate with no glimpses of the life left outside. It’s a deeply creative dystopian scenario that taps into modern anxieties around technology, control, and the nature of reality.
So far, three episodes have aired, gaining an immense viewership in...

In the movie Hook, Steven Spielberg’s 1991 Peter Pan sequel starring Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman, Williams’ Peter visits the London home of his wife’s family, where he reconnects with her grandmother, a very grown up Wendy Darling played by Dame Maggie Smith. She first appears as a ghostly silhouette at the top of a staircase before descending and creeping into the light. Smith was only in her 50s when she shot the movie but had been aged up to look impossibly frail and elderly — her hair a bushy nest,...

John Wick has already made its mark on film and television. With Keanu Reeves bringing the fabled assassin alive for the first time in 2014, Baba Yaga not only became a part of modern pop culture lore but one of its most treasured fictional characters to ever grace the screens. A decade later, the universe expands to make space for more stories to dominate the vacancy left behind by Reeves’ overwhelming presence.

Ballerina now arrives to carry forward the mantle of John Wick. However, the film is hardly a continuation of the main series, let alone a follow-up of the events of the fourth and latest adventure that ended on a rather fatal note for our main protagonist. On the contrary, Ballerina serves to narrate a spin-off story splintered off from the primary timeline of events inhabited by Keanu Reeves’s doomed vigilante.

Less than a year ago, Glitch Productions uploaded the pilot episode of “The Amazing Digital Circus” to YouTube with a plea to help them fund a full season. Now, 346 million views later, “The Amazing Digital Circus” is coming to Netflix while continuing to premiere new episodes on YouTube.
A deceptively cheery-looking animated series about life under the big top, the Australian animated series is a delightfully dark comedy about, as Glitch Productions wrote on its website, “A woman gets trapped in a crazy virtual world along with five other humans and are now subject to the whims of wacky AI and their own personal traumas.” Or, put another way, “What if it was ‘Toy Story,’ but everyone was a jerk?”
Created and directed by Gooseworx (also a composer on “Hazbin Hotel”) and produced by Glitch Productions, “The Amazing Digital Circus” will premiere Episodes 1–3 on Netflix October 4, the same day the third episode premieres on YouTube.

One of the greatest blockbusters ever made -- and a couple of its sequels -- are headed to Netflix just in time for the fall season. Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic "Jaws" is headed to Netflix in September as part of the streamer's offerings for the month, alongside 1978's "Jaws 2" and 1983's "Jaws 3-D." That means subscribers will be able to watch the franchise nearly in its entirety, save for the fourth and final entry in the series, "Jaws: The Revenge." That may not be much of a loss though as it is widely regarded as the worst entry in the "Jaws" franchise.
Beginning September 1, the first three "Jaws" films will be available on Netflix. The films had a home on the streamer last year as well, but they were removed in December. In the streaming era as it exists, movies tend to bounce around on various services. Now, they're headed back to Netflix,...

It seems like only yesterday there was a little movie on the rise starring one Mr. Keanu Reeves.
Now, ten years later, that movie has become a full-fledged franchise with multiple spinoffs and sequels in the works.
Unlike other action franchises, the John Wick movies deliver a critically acclaimed cinematic experience with every installment.
(Lionsgate/Screenshot)
The John Wick movies have garnered major favor with audiences and critics alike. So, it comes as no surprise that the films have earned multiple awards nominations and wins.
After multiple films, including a fifth on the way, Keanu Reeves shows no signs of hitting the breaks any time soon.
This Lionsgate gold mine is still going strong because here is everything we know so far about the upcoming series John Wick: Under The High Table!

The deep lore of the John Wick movies will continue on TV with the sequel series Under The High Table, now being developed by Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski.
A decade after Keanu Reeves’ assassin first started shooting men in the face at point-blank range because of what happened to his dog, the John Wick movies have grown into a mini empire. Last year’s John Wick: Chapter 4 brought the series’ stylised violence to new aesthetic heights, and it’s now been announced that a series is in development that will continue on from where that movie left off.

John Wick is dead, long live John Wick! Whilst Keanu Reeves' mythic hitman may have seemingly met his maker on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur in John Wick: Chapter 4 (we never actually saw him croak it!), the John Wick Universe has continued to expand in his absence with the likes of hotelier origin series The Continental, Ana De Armas' upcoming quite literal bullet ballet Ballerina, and an in-development spin-off movie centred around Donnie Yen's blind assassin Caine. Now, per Deadline's reporting, The Old Man co-creator Robert Levine is penning John Wick: Under The High Table, a new TV series set directly after the end of the last Wick film.
Franchise star Reeves and Wickiverse head honcho Chad Stahelski are aboard to executive produce the series, with Stahelski — who helmed all four of the mainline Wick movies — set to direct the pilot episode. Little is known at this stage...

Lionsgate is looking to expand the universe of John Wick with a new action series titled John Wick: Under The High Table, according to Deadline. The upcoming series will be set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4 and it will apparently explore the fallout of the actions taken by Wick and Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont in the fourth film.

Ah, it’s Hollywood—where the big screen becomes a needlepoint of dreams and the Oscars are the golden yardstick of excellence. But it is actually sad when Tom Cruise’s fans clamor for the actor to flex his dramatic chops more often, yet they can’t help but recall how the Academy Awards passed him by to adorn Michael Caine with the honorary statuette.
Cruise, a powerhouse with four Oscar nominations under his belt, for stellar roles in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, and the box office juggernaut Top Gun: Maverick, hasn’t yet bagged an Oscar.

As blockbusters and critical darlings rock through his filmography, it’s quite an Oscar tale to tell—of nominations without culmination. And notably, Cruise’s star turn in Magnolia lost in a twist of Oscar fate to Michael Caine’s performance in The Cider House Rules.

Our journey through Michael Caine’s 80s work reaches one of his best: Educating Rita, co-starring a powerhouse Julie Walters in the title role.
Michael Caine showed no sign of slowing down as he entered his third decade as a leading man. The 1980s would see him win his first Academy Award (Hannah And Her Sisters), tackle new genres such as horror (The Hand) and shark-based revenge movie (Jaws The Revenge) while continuing to work with interesting new auteurs like Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill) as well as old friends from classic Hollywood such as John Huston (Escape To Victory).
Film by film, I’ll be taking a look at Caine’s 1980s filmography to see what hidden gems I can unearth alongside the more familiar classics…
Spoilers for Educating Rita ahead…

For those of us who have been here for a decade or two, it’s remarkable to consider both how much and how little the city of Los Angeles has changed over the years. There are still plenty of the old landmarks—the Hollywood Sign, Pink’s Hot Dogs, that dude who rollerblades around is white robes and plays guitar on the Venice boardwalk—while other, seemingly indestructible, institutions have tragically bitten the dust.
So! With local issues perpetually at the forefront of our mind this week, here now are ten films that remind us of life in Los Angeles during a very particular and only recently bygone era: the ’90s and early 2000s. These films are honest portrayals of what livin’ la vida loca LA-style is all about, whether they’re a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and famous, the realities of showbiz or struggles within SoCal’s toughest ‘hoods.

Going naked in films can be both positive and liberating or sometimes embarrassing and hilarious for actors. For example, while going nude for Red Sparrow was liberating for Jennifer Lawrence, as it helped her deal with insecurities, on the other hand, Kate Winslet finds them awkward. And while it’s not uncommon for actors to bear it all onscreen if the script demands, not every actor is on board with going full-frontal, including Michael Caine.
