Bruce Springsteen was “Born to Run” into the 2025 Oscars race.
As The Boss gears up for the release of his much-anticipated biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere” later this year, the iconic singer is already set to be honored during the fifth annual Academy Museum Gala. The timing couldn’t be better: The Academy Museum Gala will take place October 18, with “Deliver Me from Nowhere” arriving in theaters in October 24. Springsteen will be portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, with Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann, and David Krumholtz also starring in the ’80s-set feature.
The Academy Museum Gala recognition further ushers in the presumed Springsteen mania of this upcoming awards season. Springsteen will receive the museum’s inaugural Legacy Award and is also set for a live performance at the ceremony. Musicals can feel like a tough sell with their flashy songs and dance routines, but some films break through with gripping stories, sharp wit, or raw heart. These movies win over even those who cringe at spontaneous singing, feeling more like great cinema than stagey spectacles.

Adapted from a real-life incident, Stephanie Laing’s “Tow” is a stirring celebration of a woman who took on the system. Seattle’s Amanda Ogle (Rose Byrne) is going through a tough time. She’s homeless, though she will not accept it, living in a Toyota Camry. The day she goes for a job interview, she discovers her car has been stolen. After relentless pressure on the police, the car is eventually found, towed away. She is told by Cliff (Simon Rex), a junior employee at the towing company, that she’ll have to pay upfront a hefty fee to claim the car. Aghast, she protests. Not only does she barely have any money, but she refuses to be fleeced by a grotesque system. She rallies for her rights, unafraid of what the blowback from bigger powers can be. That isn’t even something she takes into account before she sets out to challenge.

The proposed Argylle trilogy faces an uncertain future after the film flopped critically and commercially. Though the failure of the star-studded movie, featuring Henry Cavill in the lead role, may have raised eyebrows, Bryce Dallas Howard says she saw it coming.
Speaking with The Independent, Howard said she had a feeling that the Matthew Vaughn-helmed spy action-comedy wouldn't land because she knows whenever a project she's a part of will struggle. "You can always see it coming while you're making it," the actor said. "I've never been shocked when something doesn't work. But I'm just an actor – you're there to serve a director's vision. If a movie doesn't turn out the way that you envisioned, you can barely feel disappointed because it's not yours. You're not the person who's building the thing."

A phrase that Amanda Ogle, the no-nonsense protagonist played by Rose Byrne in Stephanie Laing’s touching film Tow, hears a lot is “people like you.” Strangers reach for it when referring to her situation as an unhoused woman in Seattle, Washington, living in her car. Social services workers — or anyone tasked with helping her — use it to preface their shock at her determination. Passers-by, assuming she is down on her luck, deploy it like a compliment, as if Amanda’s intrepidness in the face of bureaucratic systems and run-of-the-mill social indifference is a testament to her personality rather than a necessary response to state failure.
Amanda has a particularly hard time stomaching this phrase when her car — a 1991 Blue Toyota Camry — gets towed. Employees of this large auto company hauled her car, which was stolen while she was interviewing for a job at a high-end pet salon, without a second thought about its value.

In the world of moviemaking, tight schedules and limited budgets are often the norm. But Tow took these challenges to a whole new level. That’s right – the gripping thriller was shot in a very limited time, according to star Rose Byrne. Tow was screened at the Tribeca Festival on 7th June.
In a recent interview, she opened up about the movie’s behind-the-scenes reality and revealed that the movie was brought to life with minimal financial resources. However, despite these constraints, Tow managed to deliver an immersive experience that feels much grander than its modest beginnings. But with such a quick turnaround, many are left wondering: Is Tow inspired by real-life events?

There are a million things Alexander Hamilton hasn’t done, but reuniting the original cast of the Broadway blockbuster Hamilton isn’t one. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Ariana DeBose, and others took the stage at the 2025 Tony Awards in celebration of the musical’s 10th anniversary.
With the cast dressed in elegant black suits and gowns, the original Hamilton cast earned a standing ovation for their stellar performance of a medley of songs from the musical. It opened with Miranda and Odom Jr.

In tip-top shape, as if no time has passed since its 2015 debut off-Broadway and immense success thereafter, the original company of Hamilton reunited for a rousing performance featuring an intricate medley of songs from the hit soundtrack, bringing the audience to its feet.
Host and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo introduced the castmembers, stating the musical “changed not just Broadway, but how Americans view their own history — or so I’m told,” to crowd laughter. Calling it a “cultural force” and “explosion of joy that spilled onto Broadway’s sidewalks,” she wasted no time in ushering the grand anniversary showcase, affectionately called “Hamilten,” a true masterclass in rapid-fire onstage choreography and breathwork.
Beginning with Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Aaron Burr themselves, the medley swelled first with “Non-Stop,” with the former then taking over for “My Shot.” Enter stage left Phillipa Soo with “That Would Be Enough,” later completing...

In October of 2017, an unhoused Seattle woman, living out of her 1991 Toyota Camry containing every possession she had in the world, found her life turned upside down after the car was stolen and then towed. She waged an epic year-long battle to get it back. Now, seven and a half years later, her story has world premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night as a major motion picture starring Rose Byrne and a supporting cast that includes two Oscar winners—and that unhoused woman named Amanda Ogle is an Executive Producer. This is the stuff that makes you cheer for the little guy and also makes for a feel-good movie that actually gives you hope in an increasingly dire world.

The older I get, the more I realize that neither my parents nor teachers properly prepared me for the wonders and horrors of adulthood. At 44, bills are gobbling my bank account like Pac-Man eats Power Pellets, and a Nintendo Switch 2 costs nearly $900 Canadian. Inflation, baby! If I had switched bodies with an adult back in the day, it could have provided some much-needed perspective about the crushing reality of middle age. Today, Disney is ready to make people across the age spectrum feel the burn with its latest trailer for Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 comedy starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The upcoming cinematic romp brings the bodyswap mechanic back with style as the switcharoo magic extends to other members of the Coleman family. In addition to the Freakier Friday trailer, Disney dropped a new poster for the film featuring Lohan and Curtis mugging for the...

Rose Byrne knew she was fated to bring the story of Amanda Ogle to the screen. Byrne stars in “Tow,” based on Ogle’s story as an unhoused woman fighting to reclaim her car from a predatory towing company after it refuses to return her stolen vehicle.
“Tow” is premiering at Tribeca 2025 on Saturday, June 7. Byrne leads the ensemble cast, which also includes Oscar winners Octavia Spencer and Ariana DeBose, plus Demi Lovato, Elsie Fisher, and “The Holdovers” breakout Dominic Sessa. Stephanie Laing directs from a script written by Brant Boivin and Jonathan Keasey.
“It was so moving and wildly original and timely,” Bryne told IndieWire about first learning about the film. “It is a timely tale right now to tell. I am so proud we are bringing Amanda’s story to audiences. The fall into being unhoused is full of such assumption, prejudice, and ignorance from people. This tells...
