Originally planned to study film at university in the hope that he would become a cinematographer.

His parents are Meade Palidofsky and Alan Neff. His mother is the founder of Storycatchers Theatre and his father is a lawyer and novelist.

Is a Steppenwolf Theatre member along with co-star Martha Plimpton.

Was engaged to stage actress Kelly O'Sullivan. They met during a 2008 theatre production of "Jon".

He is of Ashkenazi Jewish (father) and Polish and Irish (mother) descent.
