Cheryl's a TV and film screenwriter who loves to write about complicated women as they find their voices in messy situations. And she especially enjoys the thrill of having her characters run for their lives. Cheryl's worked on several family and teen drama's including Amazon's Beyond Black Beauty, a unique adaptation of the beloved classic book. She's sold her original teen crime drama, Normal Girls, to Wildbrain and has several drama series in development.
Her indie crime thriller, The Last Mark, received a TIFF Industry Select in 2021 and is available on Super Channel. Her second indie thriller, All the Lost Ones, has been acquired by Paramount+ Canada for 2024. Both films were supported by selective Canadian funding bodies such as Telefilm, Ontario Creates, and Northern Ontario Heritage Conference Fund. Additionally, she wrote on the upcoming monster flick Carved, an adaptation from a short film to feature length, scheduled for an October 2024 release on Hulu.
Cheryl's professional accolades include the Winter 2024 Inevitable Foundation Elevate Collective recipient, semi-finalist for the 2023 Maven's Screen Media Fellowship and the 2022 Wscripted Cannes Screenplay Nomination. Cheryl honed her skills in prestigious labs including the 2023 TIFF Series Accelerator, 2023 Respectability Entertainment Lab, and 2023 Stowe Story Writers Room Lab.
Cheryl's also an advocate for the community of creatives with disabilities. She was an early advisor for the Disability Screen Office, a community advisor for ReelAbilities Accessible Writers Lab, a speaker at TIFF's 23rd Top Ten Industry Forum on the Perspectives: Shaping the Future of Accessibility on Screen, and a delegate for the Disability Screen Office for Prime Time 2024.
