Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.

Scripted by Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman, Bruno Penguin is based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

In what promises to be a gripping cinematic experience, the trailer for Boneyard, set for a 2024 release, has just been launched, stirring anticipation amongst thriller and action aficionados worldwide. Directed by Asif Akbar and featuring a cast including Mel Gibson, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Nora Zehetner, Brian Van Holt, and Randall J. Bacon, Boneyard is already shaping up to be a must-watch.

Set against the stark backdrop of the New Mexico desert, the film is inspired by harrowing true crime stories. It plunges viewers into an intense narrative where the skeletal remains of 11 women & girls set off an extensive investigation. Police Chief Carter (portrayed by 50 Cent), alongside Detective Ortega (Brian Van Holt) and the unyielding Agent Petrovick (Mel Gibson), leads a multi-agency taskforce on a relentless quest to unearth the identity of the killer.

U.S. and U.K.-based global sales outfit Palisades Park Pictures has revealed a star-studded slate for Hong Kong’s film rights market FilMart.

John Travolta, Katherine Heigl and Christopher Walken lead romantic comedy “That’s Amore!,” which is in pre-production. Written and directed by “Green Book” writer Nick Vallelonga, the film follows two emotionally damaged people who attempt to date one another, and when their families get involved, comedy ensues.

The producers are Vallelonga (Vallelonga Prods.), Cassian Elwes (Elevated Films), Brenda Emmett and Vince Emmett (American Troubadours), David Polemeni; Tamara Birkemoe and Mark Damon, for Palisades Park Pictures, serve as executive producers.

Director Phillip Noyce has completed action-thriller “Fast Charlie,” starring Pierce Brosnan, Morena Baccarin and James Caan, and adapted from Victor Gischler’s novel “Gun Monkeys” by Richard Wenk (“The Equalizer”).

Brosnan plays Charlie Swift, a hitman who has been working for his aging mob boss, Stan (Caan), for two decades.

Exclusive: Vertical has acquired North American rights to Parachute, the romantic drama marking the directorial debut of actress Brittany Snow (X), which won multiple awards in its debut at SXSW 2023, recognizing Snow and star Courtney Eaton (Yellowjackets). The film from Yale Productions, also starring Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), is set to open in select theaters on April 5.

XYZ Films has just scooped up the US distribution rights for ‘Skyline: Warpath.’ This sci-fi action film, packed with martial arts, is a fresh creation from Liam O’Donnell, known for his work on ‘Beyond Skyline.’ The film shines with stars like Iko Uwais from ‘The Raid’ and Scott Adkins of ‘Undisputed’ fame. Joining them are Louis Mandylor, Randall J. Bacon, and Yayan Ruhain.

‘Skyline: Warpath’ is set in the same universe as O’Donnell’s previous work and takes place five years after ‘Beyond Skyline.’ The story revolves around Sua, played by Iko Uwais, leading a resistance against alien invaders. Things heat up with the discovery of the Radial Gauntlet, an alien artifact. Sua faces challenges from the corrupt Eric, portrayed by Scott Adkins, and a relentless alien army.

XYZ Films knows a good thing when they see it, and that’s why the studio preemptively purchased the U.S. rights to Skyline: Warpath, a sequel in the Skyline universe starring Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins. Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) directs the threequel from his own script, with filming taking place in Indonesia. The martial arts sci-fi action franchise that launched with Skyline in 2010 is set to continue with Skyline: Warpath, from writer/director Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline). Deadline reports today that the newest installment has been acquired for U.S. distribution by XYZ Films.

Skyline: Warpath stars Iko Uwais (The Raid franchise) and Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4, Day Shift).

Set five years after the events of Beyond Skyline, the latest entry “follows Sua (Uwais) as he leads The Resistance against the aliens. When he discovers the powerful alien Radial Gauntlet, he must deal with both the corrupt Eric (Adkins) and the army of alien invaders.”

The acquisition news comes with a pair of first look images of Adkins and Uwais in action.

Exclusive: XYZ Films has pre-bought all U.S. rights to distribute under-the-radar martial arts sci-fi action threequel Skyline: Warpath, written and directed by Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) and starring Iko Uwais (The Raid Franchise) and Scott Adkins (Undisputed).

Louis Mandylor, Randall J. Bacon and Yayan Ruhain round out the cast on the project which is currently filming in Indonesia. XYZ Films will release domestically in early 2025.

The scene where Robert Shaw gets eaten in “Jaws” is one of the most thrilling moments in movie history. After all of Steven Spielberg’s virtuoso framing and cool ’70s Hitchcock scare tactics, the shark’s big-mouthed consumption of a man who fully deserves to be eaten had a shockingly raw “Look, there it is!” exploitation-film brazenness. (One not inaccurate way to describe “Jaws” would be to call it the greatest B-movie ever made.) “The Flood,” an alligator-attack movie that’s also a violent prison-break thriller, takes its cue from that scene. Set in a backwater Louisiana police station during a hurricane, the film isn’t shy about serving up its big, nasty human-torso-meets-jaws moments. It’s basically a slasher movie with teeth.

Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for a WWII action movie called 3 Days in Malay, directed by the Australian action star Louis Mandylor. Another of these unoriginal action movies being churned out by the dozen. Mandylor has been starring in films made by director Brandon Slagle recently, though this time Slagle wrote the screenplay and let Mandylor direct. A small group must defend an airfield for three days against the Japanese assault during the fight for Malay in World War II. Mandylor with Cowboy Cerrone, Peter Dobson, Ryan Francis, Randall J. Bacon, and Quinton Rampage Jackson star in the WWII action film, out to watch starting in August. It's inspired by a true story, based on the actual Malayan campaign in 1941-1942 where Allied forces tried to defend Malaya from Japanese forces. This looks brutal and intense, and remarkably generic and uninteresting.

Exclusive: In an early bid, Vertical has secured worldwide rights to Parallel, a new sci-fi thriller starring Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami…) and Edwin Hodge (The Tomorrow War). Colin Bates, who produced the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap and the Arnold Schwarzenegger zombie drama Maggie, is producing the hot indie with Vincent McDaniel.

Exclusive: Danielle Deadwyler (Till) has signed on to star alongside Aldis Hodge and his brother Edwin Hodge in the sci-fi thriller Parallel, from director Kourosh Ahari (IFC Films’ The Night), which has entered production in Vancouver.

The film formerly titled Parallel Forest is a remake of Lei Zheng’s award-winning Chinese feature of the same name. It follows the journey of Vanessa (Deadwyler), a grief-stricken woman who mysteriously finds herself navigating between parallel spaces. While on a retreat with her husband and brother-in-law, and after suffering the loss of a child, she is faced with the threat of self destruction in order to regain the life she knew before her loss. These parallel gates may hold the key to releasing her grief or trapping her forever.
