Montreal-based distributor and sales agent Filmoption International has acquired world rights to Nick Butler’s feature directorial debut, “The Legacy of Cloudy Falls.”

Filmoption will launch the film at the upcoming Berlin European Film Market.

Set in the Cloudy Falls residence, a run-down apartment complex in Niagara Falls that seems destined to be torn down, the film tells the story of a handful of its tenants, chosen at random by the narrator, Rita (Susan Berger), the building’s glib superintendent. They include Terry (Andrew Moodie), an uptight, middle-aged man who grows enamoured of the erratic, young drifter squatting next door; Brigit (Grace Glowicki), a spiritual debunker who exposes psychic frauds on her little-seen YouTube channel; Riley (Amanda Martinez), a compulsive liar whose many tall tales are starting to catch up to her; and the collection of neighbours who surround them.

The cast also includes Brennan Clost, Josh Dohy and Joshua Allan Eads.

Meaghan Rath and Christopher Gorham star in Fox’s Accused season one episode 12. Directed by Milan Cheylov from a script by Zakiyyah Alexander, “Morgan’s Story” will air on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9pm Et/Pt.

Episode 12’s cast also includes Kashir Amari as James Ubom, Dennis Andres as Eric Knight, Allison Hossack as Kate Chin, Hanneke Talbot as Regina, and Christopher Seivight as Alex Breacey. Gianpaolo Venuta plays Dean Johnson, Jamillah Ross is Rashida Arain, and Stephanie Herrera plays Principal Isabel Martinez.

While multiplexes may not be opening any time soon, that doesn’t mean genre fans still don’t have other means to take in new horror films these days. Here’s a look at a pair of recent indie movies that I had the chance to check out: We Summon the Darkness from Marc Meyers (My Friend Dahmer) and Witches in the Woods by director Jordan Barker.

There seems to be endless low budget horror with titles like the one above (and I have watched many!). ‘The Curse of…’ or ‘The Haunting of…’ and it’s always 50/50 on the quality so I generally go in with low expectations.

I will say right off the bat that The Curse of Buckout Road exceeded those expectations. Buckout Road is ‘the most haunted road in America’ and the movie covers some of the myths, legends, ghosts and folklore that apparently haunt the road. I absolutely love films, in particular, horror films that have scenes that involve a lot of snow. Or, even better, if like Witches In The Woods, have a setting that is entirely snow-covered. Maybe it’s my love of Christmas and movies based around that holiday season or maybe it’s just how beautiful landscapes and nature look when covered with the white stuff. Former Crossing Jordan star Jill Hennessy has nabbed a lead role in the Comedy Central family comedy Crawford.

Hennessy will play Cynthia, an award-winning cereal executive struggling to deal with the stress of juggling work with the needs of her husband and family. The actress' TV roles include Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Law & Order and HBO's Luck.

The ensemble cast of Crawford includes Kyle Mac, Daniel Davis Yang, Alice Moran and John Carroll Lynch.

Netflix has released a creepy new trailer for its upcoming Michael McGowan series Between. The Canadian thriller stars iCarly‘s Jennette McCurdy as one of a group left behind by a mysterious plague that has killed everyone over the age of 21 in the tiny town of Pretty Lake. The youth are quarantined by the government and forced to redefine their society in order to survive.

The cast also includes Jesse Carere, Ryan Allen, Justin Kelly, Krystal Nausbaum, Brooke Palsson, Shailyn Pierre Dixon, Kyle Mac, Jim Watson, Wesley Morgan, Michael Reventar, Jordan Todosey, Sarah Podemski, Jack Murray, and Shailene Garnett. As Thanksgiving nears, iCarly star Jennette McCurdy and the cast of the Netflix survivalist thriller Between gave an Instagram shout-out Sunday to St. Jude Children's Hospital. The trailer of the Canadian film Moon Point is now online. However, no specific date has been announced for the film.

According to the film's Facebook page, the story is about a boy named Darryl Strozka (Nick McKinlay), an ambitionless 24-year old who travels hundreds of miles in a wagon hooked onto the back of his friend’s (Kyle Mac) electric wheelchair.

He embarks on this quest in hopes of tracking down Sarah Cherry (Kristen Gutoskie), his elementary school crush, now an obscure B-movie actress shooting a horror film in Moon Point. Darryl believes that taking Sarah to his cocky cousin’s upcoming wedding will finally prove to his family that he isn’t as worthless as they make him out to be.

The film also stars Paula Brancati, Art Hindle, Jayne Eastwood, Kristin Fairlie, Tony Nappo and Jessica Holmes.
