Won a Brit Award for "Best British Female Solo Artist" (2008).

In April 2017, she started a Kickstarter campaign to finance her fourth album. The campaign was a success, making it her first crowdfunded album, and her second self-released album after 'Girl Talk'.

She suffered from tachycardia (exceeding of the normal heart rate), which resulted in symptoms such as chest pains and palpitations. Because of that, she underwent a life-saving laser surgery at the age of 18. Her song "Death Proof" was inspired by that experience.

A founding member and a director of the Featured Artists' Coalition, a lobby group launched in 2009 with the aim of giving music artists a greater voice in big decisions in the music industry, from digital deals to copyright law.

Born to an English father and an Irish mother.

She is a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality.

In 2005, she fell down the stairs and broke her foot, which left her homebound. During that time, she started to write her first songs.

Before her music career took off, she worked in a River Island shop and a Nando's restaurant.
