There's nothing quite like a TV show that features our protagonists watching another, somewhat random TV show. In "The Sopranos," Tony at one point unwinds with an episode of "Gilmore Girls." In "Community," pop culture superfan Abed gets really, really into the ABC sitcom "Cougar Town." And in "Family Guy," the Griffin family watches, well, everything.
"Lucifer," the cult favorite supernatural series that aired from 2016 to 2021, took the TV-show-in-a-tv-show trope one step further by using a different primetime series as the catalyst for one of its best callbacks. In a season 3 plot, Luci (Tom Ellis) refuses to sleep after learning that he may be moonlighting as a guardian angel in a fantastical take on sleepwalking. He stays up for a week straight, binge-watching 12 seasons of the always-gross, always-shippable hit forensics drama "Bones" all the while, and even resurfaces with a new nickname for Chloe (Lauren German).

“Pokémon” fans have a new dream vacation spot: the tropical island resort in Netflix’s “Pokémon Concierge.”
The stop-motion animation series could be the most adorable show Netflix has ever made. Each Pokémon is meticulously crafted with fuzzy fur, smooth scales and friendly features that make you want to scoop them up and give them a hug. Twenty-nine different Pokémon pop up across four short episodes of “Concierge,” and it’s enough to make any fan of the video games, anime or trading cards instantly fall in love with the new setting.
The only downside to “Concierge” is that the four episodes are about 15 minutes each, but there’s enough Poké magic and vacation vibes to make you want to book a ticket to the Pokémon Resort immediately. New character Haru (voiced in English by Karen Fukuhara) is down on her luck and takes a last-minute trip to the resort for a relaxing getaway.

Anxiety. Anger. Frustration. As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes roll on, folks in Hollywood are feeling it all. “The strikes are hard on everyone,” writer and producer Joe Henderson tells THR. “It’s a weird time because there’s a mix of feeling empowered to fight for what we deserve and believe in — and feeling powerless because we don’t feel seen for the value we create. I vary between being depressed and being inspired. That’s the challenge.”
Psychotherapists who work with a largely Hollywood clientele say their patients are unsettled and triggered during the work stoppage. “What happens when people are under a great deal of stress like this, there’s a primitive defense mechanism — it’s called projection. That’s when people assign their unwanted feelings onto somebody else,” says Beverly Hills psychologist Jeff Blume, noting that this can be a factor in the acrimony now permeating the industry.

With great corporate power should come great responsibility. And with that ethos in mind, comic book creators joined Writers Guild of America members on the picket line Thursday, protesting what they called the exploitation of the most vulnerable.
About 40 or so creators (some WGA members, some not) joined the proceedings at one of the gates outside of NBCUniversal on Lankershim Boulevard, with writers such as Eisner winner Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian), Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance, Picard), Jeremy Adams (Green Lantern), David Avallone (Elvira), Emmy winners Shawna and Julie Benson (Batgirls and the Birds of Prey), and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson (Skyward). Rantz Hoseley, the Eisner-winning editor in chief of Z2 comics and independent filmmaker, organized the gathering.

Netflix has gotta catch ’em all.
The streamer is teaming up with The Pokémon Company to create “Pokémon Concierge,” an upcoming stop-motion animated series. The series will follow “Haru, a concierge at the Pokémon Resort, and her interactions with Pokémon and their owners who visit as guests,” the logline says.
A short teaser for “Pokémon Concierge,” announced on Monday, Feb. 27, a.k.a. Pokémon Day 2023, showed a blissful, sandy beach with a Psyduck waddling along the shore. “This is the Pokémon Resort. Pokémon are the guests here. Here is the story of the resort’s concierge,” a narrator says. The official poster for the show revealed Haru, a young, red-headed girl in a floral, Hawaiian-style shirt (covered with grass-type Oddishes), with her Psyduck.

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to proceed with second seasons of legal drama Partner Track, headlined by Arden Cho, and sci-fi drama The Imperfects, starring Italia Ricci.
Neither series has been a breakout. Partner Track debuted August 26 with 16.7M minutes viewed in its opening weekend and peaked at No. 4 on Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 for English-language series. The Imperfects opened at No. 3 in its debut weekend (September 8-11) before slipping. Both series spent only three weeks in the Top 10, which is not the long tail Netflix wants to see for shows that earn renewals.
Netflix brass had high expectations for Partner Track, which broke ground in representation as a romantic drama with an Asian American lead, Cho. Season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger, which indicates confidence in a show’s prospects, and the streamer had commissioned a writers room that was up and running, working on ideas for a potential second season,...

Lucifer may have ended its run, but the former Netflix series’ showrunners, Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson would pitch an animated follow-up or a possible Broadway musical to continue the DC/Vertigo show. Season 6 had just concluded the popular series with controversial results, but the creators don’t think it has to stop there. There have been no confirmations, nor is it obvious that they were probably making a joke. Still, Mordrovich and Henderson say they seriously considered spin-offs while making the series.
Cbr reports in an interview with ScreenRant that Henderson has always thought about the show’s future. Henderson explains, “We loved making the show. We loved working with these people. I think, hopefully, at some point, we can find a way to come back or at least revisit or do something. It was such a great time and experience, and we love these people, so never say never.

It’s been a year and a few days since the final season of Lucifer dropped, and even our most earnest prayers — or messiest deals with the devil — haven’t conjured up any more new content. Sure, there’s The Sandman‘s more faithful take on the Neil Gaiman-spawned character and Gwendoline Christie crushed it. But as far as Tom Ellis and company, the gates of hell have clearly been closed. Still, there’s a reason to shout to the heavens because, this week, Lucifer: The Complete Series dropped on DVD with all 93 episodes, as well as countless hours of bonus features from all six epic seasons. In addition, Lucifer: The Sixth and Final Season was made available on Blu-ray and DVD, in case you have already collected the first five batches. To celebrate the arrival of these sets, we reunited with our old friends Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson,...

“I’m proud of the fact that we have a show that has the weirdest track ever,” says Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson says. “You can have a show that airs for six seasons that people just watch or a show that people fought tooth and nail [for] to get the ending they wanted. And we fought to give them the ending that they deserved.” The uniquely fraught road to get Lucifer to the end of his journey is intrinsically intertwined with the show’s sudden premature cancellation from Fox in 2018 and a rowdy social media campaign to resurrect the show at […]

Netflix announced a new first look deal with Magic Quill Productions, the new writers’ collective formed by writers and executive producers Joe Henderson, Georgia Lee and Matt Owens.
As a production company, Magic Quill will prioritize writers while centering high concept genre stories. The company aims to empower writers and train future showrunners with a focus on platforming diverse, underrepresented voices.
Henderson recently served as showrunner and executive producer on “Lucifer,” which Netflix picked up from Fox after three seasons to run another three seasons. In the series, Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil (Tom Ellis), gets tired of living in Hell and instead opens a nightclub in Los Angeles. Lee currently showruns and executive produces “Partner Track,” Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Helen Wan’s novel of the same name. Owens is a writer and executive producer on “One Piece,” Netflix’s live action adaptation of the longest-running manga series in Japanese history.

Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce Walt Disney Studios’ reboot of “Flight of the Navigator,” which reimagines the original 1986 film with a female lead. The new movie, which marks Howard’s feature directorial debut, is slated to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus.
The original “Flight of the Navigator” was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus. The family sci-fi adventure film followed 12-year-old David Freeman (Joey Cramer), who goes unconscious after falling down in the woods, only to get abducted by an alien spaceship that transports him from 1978 to 1986. David spends the film trying to reunite with his family, but gets entangled with the police and NASA along the way.

“Lucifer” is over for real this time, following the Friday launch of the twice-resurrected show’s sixth and final season. However, should the show’s writers want to pursue a continuation of the story starring Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Chloe Decker’s (Lauren German) half-angel adult daughter, Rory, Brianna Hildebrand told TheWrap she’s “definitely” on board to reprise the role for a spinoff series.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the sixth and final season of “Lucifer,” streaming now on Netflix.
After a Fox cancelation, Netflix revival, a planned ending and then an unexpected second revival, “Lucifer” has come to an end — albeit with plenty of twists.
Though the series ended where showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich intended — with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) rehabilitating doomed souls in Hell — the unexpected sixth season led to the arrival of one of the biggest twists of the series: Rory (Brianna Hildebrand), the time-traveling grown daughter of the duo.
With Rory enraged over her father’s apparent abandonment, and Lucifer insisting he would never repeat what his dad did to him, it allowed the series to dive deeper into the relationship between Lucifer and Chloe, as they tried to figure out what happened.

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers through the fifth episode of the sixth and final season of “Lucifer.”)
If you’re reading this post right now, we’re 99% sure you are one of the “Lucifer” fans who has just reached the point in Season 6 where it is revealed that Rory, the new character played by Brianna Hildebrand, isn’t just some random angel with an ax to grind, and she isn’t just Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) angry, abandoned daughter, she’s Chloe (Lauren German) and Lucifer’s daughter — from the freaking future.
Yeah, that’s a lot to process for Chloe and Lucifer as they find out the truth, and for viewers who get that info along with them. But it also was a huge shock for the stars of the show, who told TheWrap what they thought of “Lucifer” showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson’s biggest twist...

All good things — including a show about the very baddest boy — must come to an end, the poster marking Lucifer‘s final season tells us.
Saved by Netflix after a three-season Fox run, Lucifer‘s previous season originally was earmarked as its swan song. But when Netflix surprised co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich with a request for one more, truly final round, the Season 5 finale’s original coda got clipped and the EPs whipped up a 10-episode “love letter” to Lucifans.

Netflix subscribers, prepare to catch ’em all. A live-action television adaptation of “Pokémon” is reportedly in the works.
Variety reported on Monday that “Lucifer” showrunner Joe Henderson has been attached to write and executive produce the untitled series, which is in the early stages of development. The series will mark Hollywood’s second live-adaptation of the multimedia franchise following 2019’s Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith-led film, “Pokémon Detective Pikachu.”
A Netflix representative did not return a request for comment.
The “Pokémon” series news marks a major leap for Hollywood’s live-action television adaptations of video games, which used to be a rarity. Netflix is no stranger to video game adaptations: The streaming service recently premiered “Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness,” a four-episode animated horror adaptation of the video game franchise. Netflix has in early development a live-action Pokémon series based on the popular trading cards, sources close to the project tell Deadline.
There are no details, but we’re told Lucifer co-showrunner and EP Joe Henderson is attached to write the series and executive produce.
Netflix and reps for Henderson would not comment.
The Japanese franchise, created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995, is centered on fictional creatures called “Pokémon”. In Pokémon, humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train Pokémon to battle other Pokémon for sport.
A live-action Pokémon series would be a natural follow for Netflix, which currently has several Pokemon shows on the streaming service such as Pokémon: Indigo League and Pokémon Journeys, among others. Pokémon is considered the most successful video game adaptation of all time, with over 1000 episodes broadcast and adapted for international television markets, concurrently airing in 169 countries worldwide. Variety is reporting that Netflix is developing a live-action Pokémon series that is currently set to be helmed by Lucifer‘s co-showrunner, Joe Henderson.
We don’t know much about the show (the project hasn’t even been confirmed by Netflix as of the time of this writing), but this early report suggests that the decision to go with a live-action adaptation as opposed to the more traditional animated adaptation can be partially attributed to Detective Pikachu‘s success. It’s early days yet concerning this entire project, but it’s certainly easy to imagine this adaptation following in Detective Pikachu‘s footsteps so far as style and storytelling go.
While that may be the most likely (and potentially lucrative) approach, it’s hard not to wonder if this is the perfect opportunity for someone to really dive into the darker side of the Pokémon universe.

A new Pokemon series is in early development at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
As the project is still in its early days, no details are available about the plot. However, sources say that Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce. Henderson currently serves as co-showrunner and executive producer on the popular Netflix series “Lucifer,” which is preparing to air its sixth and final season at the streamer.
Sources also say that the project would be a live-action series akin to the “Detective Pikachu” film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith that was released in 2019.
Reps for Netflix and Henderson did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

For the second year in a row, San Diego Comic-Con — the largest fan gathering in North America — has been forced by the pandemic to hold its annual convention as a virtual event. Last year’s Comic-Con@Home was a valiant effort to keep the 51-year tradition alive, but without marquee draws such as Marvel Studios and DC Films, it barely made a blip in terms of social media impact.
This year’s virtual Comic-Con has been scaled down, taking place largely over three days (July 23–25) instead of five. And with Marvel and DC sitting out once again, Comic-Con@Home promises to be a far more modest event than the gargantuan convention that’s drawn more than 130,000 attendees to San Diego every summer.
Ironically, the most Comic-Con-y event may be a panel Paramount is holding two days early — i.e. today — at 1 p.m. Pt for the “G.I. Joe” spin-off “Snake Eyes,...

As an art department coordinator, Marisa Shipley notes that most of her department takes breaks between shows to recuperate, go on vacation, or go to medical appointments. That’s not the case for those in her position.
