Matt Reeves is telling us something: This is what happens when a blockbuster budget is used well. The third part of the Apes reboot, following Rupert Wyatt’s Rise and Reeves’ Dawn, may be the pinnacle of the series so far. In a universe of cinematic universes, War for the Planet of the Apes bucks the trend and feels like a different beast to its predecessors: a true next chapter, with a different mood and a new rhythm, and the balls to bring beloved characters to the end of their arc.
Following the catastrophic events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, in which civil war broke out between the proud Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the hateful Koba (Tony Kebbell), relations between humans and apes are at an all-time low.

Michael Adamthwaite is one of the hardest working actors out there and of late his hard graft has started to pay off. Fans of the Netflix series Dirk Gently will know Michael for his role of Zed, but it his recent movie work that has started to raise eyebrows. Over the last couple of years, the actor has scored some pretty meaty roles in projects such as The Bfg and Warcraft: The Beginning. But his latest role as Luca in War for the Planet of the Apes is likely to be the subject of conversation for years to come. In...read more...

Director Matt Reeves may be taking the Planet of the Apes franchise in a new direction with War for the Planet of the Apes, but the upcoming sequel has now been confirmed to feature a character familiar to fans of 1968's Planet of the Apes.
New concept art unveiled by EW features the gorilla Luca (Michael Adamthwaite) sharing a tender moment with a mute girl known as Nova (Amiah Miller), who EW reveals is the same character portrayed by Linda Harrison in the '68 film.
It's not yet known if Nova's destiny will still be on track to meet astronaut Taylor (played by Charlton Heston in the original Planet of the Apes movie), or if she'll instead take a different path in the new films, but as Reeves told EW, she'll play a key role in Caesar's (Andy Serkis) inner turmoil:

Following the Cannes premiere of Steven Spielberg’s follow-up to Bridge of Spies, his adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s The Bfg, Disney has released a new full-length trailer for the adventure, giving away much more of the titular character’s fantasy-filled world. Coming from the late E.T. scribe Melissa Mathison, the story follows a young girl, Sophie, who guides the Queen of England and the Bfg (Mark Rylance, coming off his Oscar win for Spielberg) — a big, friendly giant — to stop Bloodbottlers, the big and unfriendly sort, from eating children.
Unfortunately, we were mixed on the film, saying in our review from the festival, “CGI loses the day in Steven Spielberg’s The Bfg, a partly motion-captured, eco-minded adaptation of Roald Dahl’s adored children’s book that leans so heavily on green-screen trickery that even Mark Rylance’s kind eyes — squinting out from that computer-generated abyss — can’t save it from mediocrity.

Strange and otherwise terrifying things tend to happen on Friday the 13th, at least according to superstition and a certain horror franchise featuring a machete-wielding maniac, but it was on Thursday the 13th of March, in 1997, that the residents of Phoenix, Arizona experienced a good deal of unusual activity. On that night, an unidentified flying object was spotted and filmed by thousands of people in both Phoenix and Sonora, Mexico, and to date, the strange v-shaped pattern of lights has never quite been explained – at least not in any sort of satisfying way.
Leave it to a horror movie to come along and offer up a possible explanation.

After helming the more adult-geared drama Bridge of Spies, as Steven Spielberg is known to do, he also went ahead and shot a family-friendly tentpole before his Tom Hanks-led feature even made it to theaters. The first trailer is much more of a teaser, thankfully not revealing too much footage yet. However, with its magical tone and wonderful-looking design, this looks to be the most fun Spielberg’s had in awhile, and we can’t wait to see it next summer.
