Comic-Con kicked off in full force today, and you don't have to be in San Diego to get the goodies. Not long after they showed off a sizzle reel to the crowd in Hall H, Disney went ahead and dumped the first trailer for "Oz The Great And Powerful" online, and yeah, it's actually pretty impressive. As revealed at the beginning of the year, Sam Raimi gives a nod to the past by opening the film in old school, windowboxed, square black-and-white before transitioning to color. And what color it is. The big-budget prequel of sorts follows Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmanuel Ambroise Diggs (James Franco), a showman and magician at a traveling circus who flees in a hot air balloon after being caught canoodling with a customer’s wife, only to be swept away in a terrible storm to wake up in the magical land of Oz,...

You know how Sam Raimi kept on going back and forth with whether or not he was even the least bit interested in directing "Oz the Great And Powerful"? The director definitely was pulling the wool over our eyes for a bit since he's now signed on to actually take on "Oz". That means he'll be directing Robert Downey Jr. for the upcoming Disney movie. On top of that, Pulitzer prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire will be rewriting the project that was previously written by Mitchell Kapner. Lindsay-Abaire has written a couple of different screenplays including "Rabbit Hole", "Inkheart" and "Robots". Principal photography on "Oz" is slated to begin sometime in 2011. There's no specific date at the moment due to Downey Jr.'s busy schedule with several other films which include "The Avengers" and possibly "Gravity"."Oz the Great And Powerful" begins at the 'Baum & Barley Bros.' Circus in Kansas in the early 1900s.
