Christine Lahti has joined the cast of Sarah Gancher’s Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy, set to open Off-Broadway this winter.
The Oscar and Emmy winner will portray Lubja, a supervisor of a professional troll farm who hands down increasingly specific asks to her subordinates, in the office comedy-meets-political satire opening at off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre on Feb. 8. She will star alongside Haskell King, Renata Friedman, John Lavelle, and Hadi Tabbal in the play’s New York debut, directed by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak.
Set during the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy explores what happens in a place where office romances abound and one employee who just wants to win a microwave mix with a concerted, collective daily effort to lie. Steve (Lavelle), Masha (Friedman), Nikolai (Tabbal), and Egor (King) are among the fictional employees of the Internet Research Agency, a real Russian...

"From a magic as old as the glaciers..." Disney Animation has debuted an official trailer for an interesting Vr project spinning off of the beloved Frozen franchise. The official title is Myth: A Frozen Tale, and it's an 8-minute animated short film described as "an immersive journey through Arendelle lore that blends traditional hand-drawn animation with the latest in Vr technology." It first debuted in front of the Frozen 2 premiere in Hollywood last year. This is another example of Disney showcasing "futuristic" storytelling by using Vr interaction, mixed with beautiful stories from Disney Animation lore. Featuring the voice of Evan Rachel Wood as the narrator, as well as Nick A Fisher, John Lavelle, Bonnie Popp, and Vivienne Rutherford. There's not much to this trailer, but it is a very magical glimpse at the colors and visuals of the Myth experience. Such a simple name that reminds me of the classic computer game Myst.

"What happens when you secretly pay someone to romance your Mom?" Freestyle Media has debuted an official trailer for a cute New York-set indie romantic comedy titled Born Guilty, from writer/director Max Heller. The ensemble comedy is about a mother and her son, both intervening in their lives a bit too much. Acclaimed actress Rosanna Arquette stars as a "lonely and frazzled New York social worker." Her son is played by Jay Devore, and he decides to setup his free-spirited Australian friend Rawl, as played by David Coussins, with his mother - all the while trying to balance his own relationship, too. The cast includes Keesha Sharp, Anna Lore, Jay Klaitz, John Lavelle, and Xander Berkeley. This looks pretty bad, but have a look anyway. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Max Heller's Born Guilty, direct from YouTube: Born Guilty is the story of a lonely and frazzled...

'Selma' movie review: Politically salient in the early 21st century and 'beautiful in all the ways of cinema' (photo: David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr. in 'Selma') The title of director Ava DuVernay's historical drama Selma tells us what the film is about, while implying what it isn't about. In other words, Selma is not about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- wonderfully played by British actor David Oyelowo -- even though the reverend is the film's gravitational center and its emotional weight accrues to him. Just like what took place in Selma, Alabama, back in 1965. In fact, Oyelowo's presence is as transfixing as that of the young Ben Kingsley in his transformative interpretation of Gandhi in Sir Richard Attenborough's 1982 titular classic about one of Dr. King's inspirational figures. Unlike Gandhi, however, Selma is a single canvas on which a few months in Dr.

On Saturday, nearly 30,000 people assembled in New York City’s Washington Square Park for "Millions March NYC," a demonstration protesting the grand jury's decision not to indict an NYPD officer in the death of Staten Island resident Eric Garner, along with broader racial issues that have bubbled to the surface in America throughout 2014. On Sunday, Paramount Pictures held its east coast premiere for director Ava DuVernay’s "Selma" at the city’s lavish Ziegfeld Theater. With a fleet of photographers ready to snap their photos, DuVernay and her cast took advantage of the stage, donning shirts emblazoned with "I Can’t Breathe," Garner’s final words and the unofficial protest slogan, for a striking group photo. The example set the night before could not go unacknowledged. The picture features DuVernay with stars David Oyelowo, E. Roger Mitchell, Wendell Pierce, Omar Dorsey, John Lavelle, Stephan James, Kent Faulcon, Lorraine Toussaint, Andre Holland,...

There is a stereotype about critics that we are sticks in the mud. We want our movies artsy and full of important messages, and we look down our noses on movies that are nothing but pure fun. Well, I have to admit that with National Lampoon's Dirty Movie, I looked at the front cover, sighed to myself, and thought, “I know this movie is going to be terrible.” Now, I wasn't completely wrong. National Lampoon's Dirty Movie is not a good movie. It isn't a particularly good comedy either. Actually, most of the jokes in this movie are extremely offensive, but I am shocked at how much this movie made me laugh. So far, National Lampoon's Dirty Movie is the biggest surprise of 2011 for me.
