The Transporter is one of Jason Statham’s most iconic action movie franchises, but it remains unclear if he’ll ever play Frank Martin again in Transporter 5. The franchise debuted in 2002 with the release of The Transporter, which marked Statham’s first headlining role in a major action vehicle. The titular stoic mercenary-turned-driver quickly became the defining role of Statham’s career and opened the door to other opportunities in the genre. Not only did he go on to star in other action films like War, Crank, and The Mechanic; he reprised his role as Frank in two more Transporter movies.
The trilogy got bigger, bolder, and better with each movie. 2005’s Transporter 2 expanded the scope with even more bonkers action scenes and 2008’s Transporter 3 became the highest-grossing entry in the series. The Transporter franchise continued after that, with a fourth film and a TV spinoff, but Statham never played Frank again.

The European Film Academy (Efa) has unveiled 462 film professionals as new members in an announcement timed to coincide with Europe Day on May 9.
The new arrivals will be eligible to vote in the academy’s European Film Awards, the region’s equivalent to the Academy Awards, as well as contribute to its other initiatives across the year.
The Efa said a record number of professionals had accepted to join the organization this year, adding that 50% were female, 49%, were male, and 1% defined as non-binary.
The bigger intake comes amid a drive to revamp the academy which recently announced it would be moving the Efa ceremony to January in 2026, from its traditional December slot, to make it more relevant in the annual film awards season culminating with the Oscars.
The Efa currently now counts 4,600 members based in 52 countries.
The new members mainly hailed from Germany (68), France (38), Switzerland (37), Poland (36), Italy (33), Spain (24), UK (28) and...

To no one’s surprise, Edward Berger’s epic WWI drama All Quiet on the Western Front is the front runner for this year’s German film awards. The Netflix feature, which picked up nine Oscar nominations and won four — both records for a German movie — received 12 nominations on Friday for Germany’s top cinema honor, known as the Lola.
The film, the first German-language adaptation of the Erich Maria Remarque classic 1929 anti-war novel, is the clear favorite going into this year’s Lolas. In addition to the Oscar sweep — the film won best international feature, best cinematography, best production design, and best score at this year’s Academy Awards — All Quiet on the Western Front dominated the 2023 Baftas, taking seven trophies, including for best film and best director.

"Do you think Murat is guilty?" The Match Factory has debuted the promo trailer for the German political comedy Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush, which premiered at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival earlier this month. It won two awards: Best Screenplay and Best Lead Performance for actress / comedian Meltem Kaptan. Desperate to help her son, Rabiye Kurnaz, a housewife and loving mother from Bremen, goes to the police, notifies authorities and almost despairs at their impotence and in the end, against all the odds, something truly remarkable happens. She learns her son has been sent to Guantanamo, and spends years fighting to free him, taking her all the way to the Supreme Court in the US. Kaptan stars as Rabiye Kurnaz, joined by Alexander Scheer, Charly Hübner, Nazmi Kirik, Sevda Polat, Abdullah Emre Öztürk, and Safak Sengül. This is one of the only good films from the Berlin Film Festival...

Famed for her turbulent lifestyle and intense on-and-off relationship with legendary French actor Alain Delon, Austrian actress Romy Schneider became a sensation at home when she was still in her teens by starring in a series of films about Empress Elisabeth of Austria in the hugely successful Austrian Sissi trilogy. She later moved to France where she made some of the most successful films of her career with some of the most acclaimed directors of the 60s and 70s including Luchino Visconti, René Clément and many more.
A year before her untimely death at the age of 43 and whilst at a detox clinic in the seaside town of Quiberon, Brittany, Schneider posed for exclusive photos and gave a deeply alarming and honest interview to a German journalist about her state of mind. Opening in L.A. and other cities June 16, “Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe” is a stylishly accomplished and intellectually well thought out character study of a man who was the most popular author in the world in the 1920s and 1930s and who, today, is nearly forgotten. Told through six windows of 20 minutes each, this unique storytelling technique gives the film an immediacy as each part of Stefan Zweig’s life plays out in real time.
Stefan Zweig’s books have been made into 23 movies around the world, including his novel, Letter from an Unknown Woman, which was adapted to the screen in 1948 by Max Ophüls and starred Joan Fontaine and Louis Jourdain. His writings have also inspired Wes Anderson’s “Grand Budapest Hotel”.

TNT has picked up the U.S. rights to "Transporter: The Series," an international action drama based on the Luc Besson-produced film franchise about meticulous, skilled driver-for-hire Frank Martin, played by Jason Statham. British actor Chris Vance, who played "freelance psychopath" Mason Gilroy on "Burn Notice" and Dr. Jack Gallagher on "Mental," the short-lived 2009 Fox series set in L.A. but shot in Bogotá, stars as the small screen incarnation of Frank. François Berléand, reprising his role from the films as Inspector Tarconi, is also in the cast, alongside Andrea Osvárt, Delphine Chanéac and Charly Hübner. "Transporter: The Series" is a French-Canadian production, and was originally slated to air in the U.S. on Cinemax, though they ended up passing on the project -- a trailer that was released at the time but has since been taken down didn't look particularly promising. The first season has since aired in Canada,...

Global Screen has acquired Christian Alvart’s Bank Lady - the true story of Germany’s first female bank-robber
Global Screen has picked up worldwide distribution rights to Bank Lady, the true story of Germany’s first female bank-robber, who carried out 19 armed robberies in the 1960s.
Produced by Syrreal Entertainment, the feature is directed by Christian Alvart, whose 2005 film Antibodies about a fugitive serial killer sold widely.
Bank Lady tells the story of Gisela Werler, a factory worker from Hamburg, who becomes notorious throughout Germany as a female bank robber. Thanks to the various disguises, wigs and film star sunglasses she wears during her heists, the media portray her as a cunning and sexy bandit. Together with a passionate love affair, Gisela gets reckless, taking ever-greater risks, with police inspector Fisher close on her heels.

The Good Neighbour
Directed by Stephan Rick
Germany 2011
Falling somewhere between cold psychodrama and deliberate thriller, Stephan Rick’s The Good Neighbour is a slick, cyclical drama filled with moral anxieties and suburban violence.
David (Maxim Mehmet) moves next door to Robert (Charly Hübner). David is good-looking, young and ambitious. Robert is the opposite, yet the two form a friendship based on, if nothing else, proximity. On the drive home from a bar, David strikes a young woman with his car and kills her. Robert convinces him to leave the scene of the crime, but soon David falls for the victim’s sister Vanessa (Petra Schmidt-Schaller). Robert begins to feel left out…and doesn’t take it very well.
Director Rick maintains a fairly minimal style throughout, though his is far from the sparse, grief-stricken narratives of many of his German contemporaries. Preferring to stay mostly in medium shots, Rick...
