The Transporter is one of Jason Statham’s most iconic action movie franchises, but it remains unclear if he’ll ever play Frank Martin again in Transporter 5. The franchise debuted in 2002 with the release of The Transporter, which marked Statham’s first headlining role in a major action vehicle. The titular stoic mercenary-turned-driver quickly became the defining role of Statham’s career and opened the door to other opportunities in the genre. Not only did he go on to star in other action films like War, Crank, and The Mechanic; he reprised his role as Frank in two more Transporter movies.

The trilogy got bigger, bolder, and better with each movie. 2005’s Transporter 2 expanded the scope with even more bonkers action scenes and 2008’s Transporter 3 became the highest-grossing entry in the series. The Transporter franchise continued after that, with a fourth film and a TV spinoff, but Statham never played Frank again.

German directors Dani Levy and Wolfgang Becker have revealed more details of their next features as their joint production company X Filme Creative Pool undergoes a management restructure.

This will see director-producer Tom Tykwer take over from producer Stefan Arndt as the company’s joint managing director alongside Uwe Schott. Tywker founded the company with Levy, Becker and Arndt 30 years ago. Arndt plans to focus on producing.

Norwegian director Joachim Trier’s father-daughter drama Sentimental Value has received €200,000 from the German Federal Film Board (Ffa) and will shoot in Germany as well as in Norway and France later this year.

The film will reunite Trier with Renate Reinsve, the star of his Oscar-nominated The Worst Person In The World, and that film’s writer Eskil Vogt.

The production funding was allocated to the film’s German co-producer Komplizen Film which is producing with Norway’s Mer Film and Eye Eye Pictures, Denmark’s Zentropa, France’s Agat Films, and Mk Production.

Filmfest Hamburg’s Industry Days brings together the local industry with colleagues from throughout Germany and the international industry.

The programme of keynotes, panels, and workshops kicks off on October 2 with a keynote speech by one of Germany’s most prolific directors, Dominik Graf, known for features such as Fabian: Going To The Dogs and Beloved Sisters. The European Film Academy (Efa) has unveiled 462 film professionals as new members in an announcement timed to coincide with Europe Day on May 9.

The new arrivals will be eligible to vote in the academy’s European Film Awards, the region’s equivalent to the Academy Awards, as well as contribute to its other initiatives across the year.

The Efa said a record number of professionals had accepted to join the organization this year, adding that 50% were female, 49%, were male, and 1% defined as non-binary.

The bigger intake comes amid a drive to revamp the academy which recently announced it would be moving the Efa ceremony to January in 2026, from its traditional December slot, to make it more relevant in the annual film awards season culminating with the Oscars.

The Efa currently now counts 4,600 members based in 52 countries.

To no one’s surprise, Edward Berger’s epic WWI drama All Quiet on the Western Front is the front runner for this year’s German film awards. The Netflix feature, which picked up nine Oscar nominations and won four — both records for a German movie — received 12 nominations on Friday for Germany’s top cinema honor, known as the Lola.

The film, the first German-language adaptation of the Erich Maria Remarque classic 1929 anti-war novel, is the clear favorite going into this year’s Lolas. ‘Damsel’

Another ten films have joined the Competition of the 68th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 15 - 25). Three more have also been selected for the programme of the Berlinale Special.

Based on the Transporter feature film series, this action-adventure TV show follows Frank Martin (Chris Vance), a professional "transporter." He's paid to pick up and deliver people or cargo from anywhere in the world.

He's the very best at what he does. Martin handles only the most difficult and dangerous of assignments -- and only trusts a handful of people.

A former CIA agent, computer expert Carla Valeri (Andrea Osvárt) negotiates with Martin's clients and provides him with all the information he needs. Technology expert and mechanic Dieter Hausmann (Charly Hübner) alters and repairs Martin's special Audi as needed.
