Great storytelling can come from anywhere and anybody who says that animation is only for children, are in my opinion a bit stupid. The time when animated shows were only created for children’s entertainment is long gone and today we have great storytelling in animated form in both movies and TV shows. So, we thought of compiling a list of the best adult animated shows you can watch on Netflix right.

“One bag for one life.”
Add this to your list of holiday films coming out in December – specifically December 13th, 2024 .
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T.J. Fixman (the Ratchet & Clank video games) & Michael Green, Carry-on follows a young Tsa agent as he fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.
Carry-on director Jaume Collet-Serra specializes in this kind of one-location thriller; he previously directed Non-Stop and The Commuter.
The Carry-on cast had help keeping the film’s airport dynamic realistic: a pair of bona fide Tsa agents. “We had two amazing Lax Tsa advisors on this movie who gave us so much great information on anything we needed,” Collet-Serra told Netflix. “They put our actors through proper Tsa training before we shot the movie, and...

Jason Bateman is the ultimate Grinch in the trailer for upcoming Netflix Christmas film “Carry-On” — you know, if the Grinch’s M.O. was more mass murder than toy theft.
This holiday season we’re thankful for Taron Egerton, who plays a low-level Tso, which is a Tsa agent, hand-selected by Bateman to be his forced accomplice. Bateman’s a domestic terrorist who is trying to get a bag through airport security and onto a plane; context clues tell us that it’s not just a water he purchased before the checkpoint.
The streaming movie’s official logline reads: “A young Tsa agent fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.”
“Ethan, today is a day that you’re gonna remember for a very long time,” Bateman’s character tells Egerton’s. “But if you handle it right,...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Except for one particular Tsa agent. Netflix has just released the trailer for Carry-On. Carry-On is an upcoming feature film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam) and starring Taron Egerton (Rocketman, Kingsman: The Golden Circle). Tj Fixman wrote the script’s first draft, with Michael Green responsible for the most recent polish. Dylan Clark (The Batman) is producing. Carry-On is the first production of the overall deal between Netflix and Amblin.
The film also stars Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls and Jason Bateman. The cast will also include Gil Perez- Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson and Josh Brener. Blade was recently removed from Marvel Studios' slate, but it sounds like the movie is still very much alive.
Though the long-awaited MCU reboot won't be arriving in theaters next year, scooper Daniel Richtman believes that it is still on track to commence production in the UK at some point in 2025. He also notes that it will be "dark and R-rated," and have a "smaller budget than other recent Marvel films."
Richtman also claims that a new script is currently being worked on.
Last we heard, the latest draft by Eric Pearson - who is the sixth writer to have been assigned to the project after Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto - had "finally satisfied everyone involved," but clearly this isn't the case if they've gone back to the drawing board yet again.

Recently, there has been a lot of negative news about the upcoming MCU Blade reboot. After months of problems and Yann Demange leaving as director, the film has now been taken off Disney’s 2025 release schedule.
This move was expected since it seemed very unlikely the movie could meet its November 2025 deadline. It still doesn’t have a filming date, a finished script, or a director.
Recent reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman say that the Blade movie has been changed again. He claims that filming is set to start in 2025 in the United Kingdom. The film will have a smaller budget and is expected to be very dark, rated R, as they are working on a new script.
This news is positive, especially since reports say Mahershala Ali is still involved with the project. This makes sense because insiders say he wants to turn Blade into his own version of Black Panther.

It seems that in recent months all news related to the upcoming MCU’s ‘Blade’ reboot has been negative. Following months of troubling news, and Demange leaving his position as the movie’s director the other shoe has finally dropped and the movie has been removed from Disney’s 2025 release slate.
Quite frankly the move has been expected, it was extremely unlikely that the movie would make its November 2025 deadline considering it lacks a filming date, script, and director.
Now the latest reports brought to us from industry insider Daniel Richtman claim that the movie has undergone yet another overhaul. According to insider on Patreon, ‘Blade’ is scheduled to start filming in 2025 in the United Kingdom. The film will have a smaller budget and is expected to be very dark, rated R, as they are currently working on a new script.

Marvel’s troubled Blade movie has been pulled from the release calendar and is now said to be once again be going back to the start with a new script.
Although there are signs that Marvel Studios has arrested at least some of the rot that has plagued its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the last few years, its ongoing attempt to get a Blade movie off the ground is a continuing (and very public) indicator of the studio’s continuing creative struggles.
When you consider that at the dawn of the MCU, much of the script for 2008’s Iron Man was changed on the fly, giving the film a natural charm and energy, we’re now very much at the other end of the spectrum with Marvel movies often feeling overwritten and formulaic.

For the fans who have been waiting to see Mahershala Ali take on the mantle from Wesley Snipes, we unfortunately have some pretty bad news that will have you bummed out. After going through multiple delays, two directors, and a few writers, the reboot was all set to be released in November next year. But it looks like it will be a while before we see Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the vampire.

Fans of Mahershala Ali and the Marvel character are obviously disappointed and they sure have the right to be. While these delays are probably happening for the sake of the film, we cannot help but feel a pang of annoyance at the circumstances. Mahershala Ali, on the other hand, is reportedly A-okay with whatever Marvel Studios is planning for his film.

After several years of development hell, it seems that MCU’s upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot won’t see the light of day. The highly awaited reboot has been facing major problems even before the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes.
This movie, which centers on the famous vampire hunter Eric Brooks, was intended to restart the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped shape the current MCU.
Since Mahershala Ali was cast as Blade in 2018, the project has struggled with script issues and has seen several changes in writers and directors. Some reports suggest that Mahershala Ali may be part of the problem, while others say the story and scripting are the main issues.
Recently, it was announced that ‘Blade’ has been removed from Disney’s release schedule, and the film, which was set to come out on November 7, 2025, will now be delayed indefinitely. This date has now been taken by ‘Predator: Badlands.’ Given the ongoing rumors,...

Last night, we got the disappointing (though not entirely unexpected) news that Marvel Studios had once again removed the Blade reboot from its slate, with the movie now delayed indefinitely.
Blade has been plagued by production woes ever since it was first announced over four years ago, going through a number of directors and writers. When the latest filmmaker enlisted to helm the project, Yann Demange, stepped away, it was widely speculated that the movie would ultimately be shelved, but we were assured that it was still moving forward with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the Daywalker.
Despite this latest setback, The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez believes Blade has not been scrapped, and was pushed back again because Marvel is prioritizing Multiversal stories in the build-up to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
The real reason why #Blade isn’t getting done is because the story is disconnected from the rest of the Multiverse Saga.

Marvel just made yet another big change to its slate. Is dropping Blade a bad sign?
2023 saw the once-invincible MCU finally hit an overdue road block. First, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania disappointed at the box office. Then, Jonathan Majors, who was set to become the new big bad of the franchise as Kang, was arrested on assault charges and soon fired. Then, the 2023 Hollywood strikes curtailed production while The Marvels flopped.
While Deadpool & Wolverine has been a hit and Agatha All Along won wide praise and viewership, much of the rest of the Marvel lineup has been delayed until 2025. That included what was going to be a top contender for fans, Blade.
The original 1998 Blade was the first true Marvel hit movie. It adapted the cult character of a half-vampire hunting other vampires with Wesley Snipes in the title role. Thanks to a good script, great direction and Snipes’ performance,...

Other possible members, ranging from most to least likely, include Black Knight, Scarlet Scarab, Elsa Bloodstone, Doctor Strange, and even Agatha Harkness. When Wesley Snipes' iconic Daywalker quipped, "There's been only one Blade! There's only ever gonna be one Blade!" in Marvel's mutant mash-up Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, it was hard to know whether to laugh or wince. After all, Marvel Studios has been trying — and struggling — to get their own Blade movie off the ground ever since announcing Mahershala Ali would be the McU's vampire hunter in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con way back in 2019. And now, following the departures of both director Bassam Tariq and his successor Yann Demange, it's starting to look like Snipes' zinger may well have heralded the final nail being driven into Blade's coffin.
Per Deadline's reporting, Marvel's Blade has lost its already pretty ambitious 7 November, 2025 release slot to Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands. And whilst this news doesn't come with any formal cancellation announcement for the movie, which was set to see...

Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are all heading our way next year and, up until today, so was Blade.
It's been pretty obvious for a while that it wouldn't arrive in theaters on November 7, 2025, especially as there was no mention of it at events like San Diego Comic-Con and D23 earlier this summer. Now, Disney has confirmed that by removing the Daywalker's solo outing from its release schedule.
As a result, the Blade reboot is undated and delayed indefinitely.
On the plus side, Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands has taken Blade's place next November. Disney has also dated three untitled Marvel Studios movies for February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028.

The Daywalker will have to wait a bit longer to have his time in the sun.
Disney has removed the Marvel reboot of “Blade” — starring Mahershala Ali as the titular half-vampire — from the release calendar. It was dated for Nov. 7, 2025. Disney will instead release “Predator: Badlands,” the sixth film in the otherworldly franchise, on the early November release date that was held by “Blade.”
Meanwhile, Marvel added three untitled projects to the schedule for Feb. 18, 2028, May 5, 2028 and Nov. 10, 2028.
The comic book empire’s decision to take “Blade” off the docket was widely expected after Disney CEO Bob Iger’s stated in an earnings call on May 7 that Marvel will release “a maximum of three” movies a year. Of the four superhero films Disney previously had slated for 2025 — including “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” — “Blade” is the only project that hadn’t started production.

Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman star in festive thriller Carry-On, which will stream on Netflix in December. Here’s the trailer:
The debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas film? Well, it’s all a bit done and dusted now. Still, Christmas films skewing older is becoming more and more of a thing. This is a good time to recommend 2022 action comedy Violent Night, featuring David Harbour as Father Christmas beating up a house full of terrorists. Wholesome family fun.
Two more expensive festive films are heading our way this year.
The first is Red One, a big budget blockbuster that sees the great Jk Simmons don the beard to play Santa. The plot follows Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans as they are dispatched to retrieve him after he is kidnapped. The film reunites Johnson with Jumanji director Jake Kasdan and Fast And Furious writer Chris Morgan. It will...

Jason Bateman has gone real no-more-Mr. Nice Guy on us.
The “Ozark,” “Horrible Bosses,” and “Game Night” star puts on a domestic-terrorist face (and hat) in the teaser for Netflix Christmas movie “Carry-On.” It’s, ah, not exactly “Elf.”
In “Carry-On,” before Bateman can terrorize a Christmas Eve flight, he first must make Taron Egerton’s job a living hell. Oh, and he might just kill the young Tsa agent’s significant other, played by Sofia Carson, as well.
“One bag for one life,” is Bateman’s blackmail offer.
We’re guessing he doesn’t have Clear.
Basically, Bateman targets Egerton to let his mysterious suitcase through the security scanners and onto the airplane. We don’t quite know (yet) what is in the package, but considering the gunfire and Tom Cruise-esque sprinting through the airport, Bateman’s cargo is probably a bit worse than nail clippers.

After getting sucked into the Dwayne Johnson abyss of tentpole filmmaking, Jaume Collet-Serra is getting back to what he knows best: thrillingly calibrated B-movies. Next spring will see the theatrical release of his Danielle Deadwyler-led horror thriller The Woman in the Yard, but first he’s teamed with Netflix for Carry-On.
Returning to the aviation-centered thriller after Non-Stop, his latest film follows a young Tsa agent as he fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. Written by T.J. Fixman (the Ratchet & Clank video games) and Michael Green, Carry-On stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman.

Update: Jeymes Samuel has released a statement denying the World of Reel’s Blade report. Samuel wrote, “I don’t know where these rumors start, but I am not in talks to do Blade with Marvel. I love me the Daywalker tho, I cannot wait to watch that joint. Sidebar: When Blade 2 came out I prayed they would make: ‘Wesley Snipes/Christopher Lee – Blade III.’ It didn’t happen sadly.“
The original article follows:
The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’ve passed the five year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has been plagued by production woes ever since it was first announced over four years ago, going through a number of directors and writers.
The project finally seemed to be back on track after a recent update claimed that shooting was set to commence this Fall, but we recently learned that director Yann Demange will no longer helm the movie.
These continuous setbacks have led to speculation that the project has been shelved, but we have been assured that it is still moving forward with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the Daywalker, and we're now hearing that Marvel may have settled on a new director.
According to The World of Reel's Jordan Ruimy, the studio recently met with several potential directors, and Jeymes Samuel "impressed the Marvel brass." He doesn't know if the filmmaker has officially entered talks, but believes there's a good chance he will ultimately land the gig.

Marvel’s troubled Blade reboot – which has been in limbo for years now – may finally have a script, a director and a shoot date.
While Marvel Studios is having a fair old crack at pulling itself out of the creative and commercial malaise that has set in over the last couple of years, one project that keeps dominating the headlines and reminding us of the studio’s rocky fortunes is Blade, the announced title that will feature Mahershala Ali as the MCU’s premier vampire hunter.
Blade’s path to production has been something of a mess, with the project already burning through two directors (Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) and around six writers, including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto. Getting that many writers to take a crack at a script isn’t that unusual, but having so much of this process played out...

Will we ever see the Daywalker on the big screen again? Well, unless Marvel and Disney plan to reinstate Wesley Snipes following his celebrated cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine," it seems increasingly unlikely. Thus far, Marvel Studios' "Blade" movie has been about as cursed as they come, and if you haven't been keeping tabs, here's a quick rundown.
The movie was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali taking the stage to confirm he would star. Bassam Tariq was initially on board to direct, but things didn't quite work out. "Blade" replaced its director with "Lovecraft Country" and "White Boy Rick" filmmaker Yann Demange. Then, the seemingly cursed movie lost its director again, with Demange departing the film on what were reportedly amicable terms. This is, of course, to say nothing of the multiple writers attached to this movie throughout its troubled production. Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour,...

Revenge is an art form. And Blue Eye Samurai, winner of the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, takes it personally.
Set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking to deliver revenge. “It’s an Edo-period tale of revenge — Kill Bill meets Yentl,” said co-creator Amber Noizumi.

“We want people to sink into it and be taken by the story and the level of artistry and forget they’re watching animation,” said Green. “We would love this to cross over into every interest — that if you like The Witcher, if you like animation, if you like Game of...

After Wesley Snipes’s controversial run as Blade, the mantle was handed over to Mahershala Ali. Marvel Studios announced a reboot of the franchise, with the actor taking over the character from the Og Blade. Unfortunately, the project has been stuck in development since time immemorial and Michael B. Jordan’s next project might just prove to be a generous sprinkle of salt on Mahershala Ali’s wounds.

Blue Eye Samurai has been sweeping the floor off some of the most critically acclaimed animated projects of the year. Establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with, not only did the series completely capture the attention of its audience, but also the critics. On top of its stellar ratings, it has won more than a few awards, including one Primetime Emmy award against the beloved X-Men ’97.

While X-Men '97 was a hot favourite to win the Emmy for "Outstanding Animated Program" yesterday evening, the Marvel Animation series was beaten by Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai.
That relatively obscure adult animation series also soundly defeated The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Scavengers Reign.
While some of Blue Eye Samurai's fanbase might take issue with it being described as "obscure," it certainly didn't receive the same level of mainstream attention as Marvel Studios' X-Men: The Animated Series revival. Still, that never matters when it comes to awards and the show was clearly deemed superior.
Heading into the first night of the 76th Emmys, it had already picked up wins for "Character Design," "Storyboard," and "Production Design," so this probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

The Emmys were once recognized as one of the highest forms of achievement that any actor or project can earn. However, the title has grown the notoriety of snubbing the deserved winners of a particular category. One such instance occurred recently: Blue Eye Samurai won the Best Animated Program over the flawless X-Men ’97 that had taken the world by storm.

Blade's journey back to the big screen has been nothing short of headache-inducing. The movie was first announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced Mahershala Ali as the McU's Daywalker.
Stacy Osei-Kuffour was tapped to pen the screenplay in February 2021, with the idea being to wrap shooting by the end of that year. The start date was soon pushed back but Bassam Tariq came on board to direct shortly before Blade made a voice cameo in Eternals.
Additional delays followed and Tariq was replaced by filmmaker Yann Demange. Beau DeMayo and Michael Starrbury had both tackled the script by this point, with Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green following them.
Various cast members left the movie as it continued to evolve and then, this past June, Demange stepped down as Eric Pearson signed up to polish the script.

Tom Burke, who played the sort of Mad Max-esque character Praetorian Jack in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Maurizio Lombardi, who was recently seen as Inspector Pietro Ravini in the Netflix series Ripley, have been added to the cast of the Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099 – which is, of course, a continuation of the franchise that began with the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and then got a long-awaited follow-up called Blade Runner 2049, which had Denis Villeneuve at the helm, in 2017. Blue Eye Samurai is an absolute gem of a show. Since its debut in November, this animated Netflix hit has become a major cult favorite, with many claiming it’s one of the best shows of its kind…well…ever? In it, Mizu, a female mixed-race blue-eyed samurai (voiced by Maya Erskine) seeks revenge against the four men (one of whom is her father) who did her wrong. With an all-star voice cast that includes George Takei, Kenneth Branagh, Masi Oka, and many others, it’s quickly become a favorite of our own Taylor James Johnson, who you may know as the host of one of our most enduringly popular series, Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, as well as the recent reboot of C’Mon Hollywood.

I'm willing to go on the record and admit that I went into "Deadpool & Wolverine" highly skeptical about the whole enterprise. The typical Deadpool-style of humor felt completely played out, sure, but it was only natural that Marvel would triple down on the obnoxious comic book character. But to drag along a beloved figure like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and, in the process, completely undo his poignant ending in director James Mangold's "Logan"? That's another matter entirely. In all honesty, I'm still convinced there will never be a better sendoff for the most popular X-Men than that 2017 film, but at least Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds had the presence of mind to directly address this adamantium-laced elephant in the room right away.
Not a single fan could've expected "Deadpool & Wolverine" to open by literally digging up Logan's grave and exhuming his skeleton to use as weapons in a knock-down,...

For “Blue Eye Samurai” creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, animation was the only way to tell their story the right way.
The creative partners wrote and sold the now-acclaimed Netflix series with animation in mind, and recalled to TheWrap that despite one possible buyer gauging live action possibilities, they couldn’t envision the show any other way.
“When we pitched it, we pitched it as an animated drama,” Green said. “Only one place we pitched it to said, ‘Well, would you consider it in live action?’ It was actually the very nice executives at Apple. Our response was, ‘This is an animated show.’ We didn’t know how to tell this story until we locked on animation. That was the medium for this.”
The choice for animation has paid off. The series netted nominations for Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.

Blue Eye Samurai is hands down one of the best adult animated shows on Netflix. Back in December 2023, the show was renewed for a second season, and fans have been patiently waiting for new updates on the upcoming installment. As of Aug. 19, we received some new information on season 2, but unfortunately, it's not good news at all.
During an August 2024 interview with Collider, Blue Eye Samurai creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi, producer and director Jane Wu, and sound supervisor Myron Nettinga revealed some new information about the second season, like where they are in the production process, how many episodes there will be, and when fans can expect it to come out.
According to Green and Noizumi, we will see a cut in the total episode count for season 2. Instead of there being eight episodes like in season 1, there will only be six episodes in the second season. However,...

Logan Co-Writer Gets Candid on Deadpool & Wolverine Opening Scene's Nod to the Movie - Main Image
Logan co-writer Michael Green recently weighed in on Deadpool & Wolverine's nod to the beloved movie during the opening scene.
As most fans who have seen the film know, the MCU movie began with Deadpool fighting the Tva army using Logan's corpse following his passing in the 2017 film while dancing to Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye."
While most fans enjoyed the sequence and felt that it was an appropriate opening for the movie, some felt that it might have disrespected the legacy of Logan and the character's emotional death.

This post contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Logan co-writer Michael Green called Marvel‘s Deadpool & Wolverine “nothing but complimentary” to his 2017 film.
While Logan, the last film in the Wolverine trilogy, sees the Adamantium-clawed hero die, the latest film’s opening scene features Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) resurrecting his corpse to fight off a squadron of Time Variance Authority officers.
“People had warned me ahead of time, ‘Uh, I don’t know how you’re gonna feel about the opening [of Deadpool & Wolverine],'” he told IGN in an interview. “I’m like, ‘I think I know what’s gonna happen.’ And I did not know! I didn’t know they were gonna go that far.”
Logan, also co-written by James Mangold and Scott Frank, ends with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) dying in his daughter Laura’s (Dafne Keen) arms. Meanwhile, the new Marvel installment, which has now become the highest-grossing R-rated movie globally,...

From swift kicks to the alluring tinny ring of a deadly sword swing, soundscapes are one of the most important building blocks of great television, namely that of Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai. The adult animated series follows Mizu (Mayra Erskine), a young mixed-race warrior driven by revenge as she lives as an outcast in Edo-period Japan. Her unique blue eyes signify her as an outsider in Japan, as they’ve long since closed their borders to foreign invaders, in addition to her gender preventing her from legally seeking revenge on those who shun her.
In July, Blue Eye Samurai garnered two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation for Episode 6, “All Evil Dreams and Angry Words.” The nominated sound editing duo Myron Nettinga and Paulette Lifton talk to Deadline about all the hard work that goes into...
