Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.

On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

The BAFTA TV Awards took place this sunny Sunday afternoon as the British equivalent of the Emmys awarded the best of the year’s TV on the other side of the Atlantic. The ceremony was hosted by Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, who both hosted last year, while the event takes place at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank. The BAFTA TV Awards concluded on Sunday, May 14 at the Royal Festival Hall in Southbank, London, with “Bad Sisters,” “This is Going to Hurt,” and “Derry Girls” the big winners with two awards each. One of British TV's biggest nights happened on Sunday, with the BAFTA TV Awards. And it was a good time to be anyone associated with Derry Girls, Bad Sisters or a particular reality TV show that revolves around betrayal.

Among the winners, Bad Sisters' Anne-Marie Duff scored the first performance trophy for someone from an Apple TV+ series, while the show itself took home drama series. Ben Whishaw won Leading Actor, Drama for This Is Going To Hurt., while The Traitors nabbed two awards, both in its category and for host Claudia Winkleman in Entertainment Performance.

The public, meanwhile, voted Paddington's meeting with the Queen as part of last year's Jubilee celebrations as Memorable Moment.

It was a big night for Irish talent at this year’s British version of the Emmys, the BAFTA TV Awards, which were doled out at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Hosted by Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, two Irish series — – “Bad Sisters” and “Derry Girls” — won a pair of prizes as did the telefilm “I Am Ruth.”

“Derry Girls” won Best Scripted Comedy for its fourth and final season, which was a lovely parting gift for writer and creator Lisa McGee. The show beat out “Ghosts,” “Big Boys,” and “Am I Being Unreasonable?” although the latter did pick up the prize for Best Comedy Actor for 14-year-old Lenny Rush. He edged out Matt Berry (“What We Do In The Shadows”), Joseph Gilgun (“Brassic”), Stephen Merchant (“The Outlaws”), Jon Pointing (“Big Boys”), and Daniel Radcliffe (“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”).

The 2023 BAFTA TV Awards took place at Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday evening, honoring the best performances in British television in 2022. The ceremony, which was hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, paid tribute to an eclectic mix of popular British shows and international hits.

The third and final season of “Derry Girls” was a big winner, with Lisa McGee’s Netflix-distributed series winning Best Scripted Comedy and Best Female Performance In a Comedy Program for Siobhán Mcsweeney.

Sky has unveiled seven original comedy shorts at the Edinburgh Television Festival written by and starring the likes of Rosie Jones, Desiree Burch and Jordan Stephens, while ordering Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir (working title) and greenlighting a fifth season of Brassic.

The seven shorts, which will air on Sky Arts and YouTube in 2023, explore everything from dating anxiety and rural life to pub quizzes and imaginary friends. Scroll down for full details below.

Sky Comedy Shorts have been a traditional avenue for comedy talent, with Sharon Horgan’s Dreamland featuring Lily Allen coming from the program along with Samson Kayo’s Bloods.

British television stars are preparing for the biggest night on the calendar, with one title a firm favourite going into this evening’s BAFTA TV Awards.

Channel 4’s drama It’s a Sin, a drama about a group of young people facing the Aids crisis of the 1980s, is the firm frontrunner with 11 nominations including five acting nods.

Filming of Comcast-owned Sky’s comedy show “Brassic” has been temporarily halted after a crew member exhibited coronavirus symptoms, a Sky spokesperson has confirmed to Variety.

“Throughout this time, the safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority,” said the Sky spokesperson. “The ‘Brassic’ production has paused with cast and crew now self-isolating. We will return to production as soon as it is safe to do so.” The cast and crew is expected to quarantine for at least two weeks.

Produced by Calamity Films, “Brassic” is a comedy drama series for Sky One and ITV Global co-created by Danny Brocklehurst and Joseph Gilgun and written by Brocklehurst and Alex Ganley. It stars Gilgun, Michelle Keegan, Damien Molony, Aaron Heffernan, Parth Thakerar, Ryan Sampson, Tom Hanson, Ruth Sheen and Dominic West.

The first season, which aired in 2019, was one of Sky One’s highest-rated comedies of the last decade.

In a Gold Derby exclusive, we have learned the category placements of the key Emmy Awards contenders for AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance. For this season, the network group has returning hits “Better Call Saul” (Bob Odenkirk), “Brockmire” (Hank Azaria), “Doctor Who” (Jodie Whittaker), “Killing Eve” and “Luther” (Idris Elba), plus limited series “Dispatches from Elsewhere” (Jason Segel) as part of their 2020 campaign.

Sky has handed renewals to a slew of scripted series including David Schwimmer’s Intelligence, Robert Carlyle political drama Cobra and Joseph Gilgun’s comedy drama Brassic.

Intelligence, which launches on Sky One, has been handed a second season ahead of its first season air on February 21. Friends star Schwimmer plays a power-hungry, maverick Nsa agent who joins an inept and tactless computer analyst, played by Nick Mohammed, within the UK’s Gchq. Created and written by Mohammed, Intelligence is produced by Tim Hincks and Peter Fincham’s Expectation. The second, six-part season was renewed by Jon Mountague, Sky Studios’ Director of Comedy and Zai Bennett, Sky’s Managing Director of Content.

Schwimmer said, “I am thrilled to continue to pretend to be important to National Security.” Mohammed added, “I couldn’t be more delighted about setting off alarm bells inside Gchq all over again.”

Pay-tv operator Sky will offer 80 original series to its British subscribers this year, an increase of 25% year-on-year from last year, together with a 40% boost in the volume of programming from the U.S., it announced Wednesday. It also unveiled 10 new shows it has ordered.

Sky revealed its plans at a showcase event at London’s Tate Modern art gallery, where it shared exclusive previews of new shows due to air this year, with more than 25 talent on stage including David Schwimmer, Steve Coogan, Maisie Williams, Billie Piper, Nick Mohammed, Dynamo and Rob Brydon.

As well as its original and acquired shows, Sky is delivering aggregated content from its partnerships with Netflix, BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5. It is also launching new channels like Sky Comedy, Sky Nature and Sky Documentaries.

Preacher, on paper, seemed like a television pitch that didn’t have a prayer. The fact that Sunday night marked the end of the fourth and final season of the AMC series from executive producers Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg would qualify as a miracle if the show’s brimstone scent and penchant for the profane didn’t disqualify it from general competition.

For four seasons, the show followed the wild-eyed quest of Dominic Cooper’s Jesse Custer, the West Texas preacher with a grim job history. His entire flock in West Texas was flattened and killed when he became possessed by a supernatural entity (who turned out to be the offspring of an unnatural coupling...

Preacher Season 4 Episode 10

Preacher has taken some serious diversions from the comic series over the run of the program, but one thing that hasn't been abandoned by Sam Catlin and company is the anarchic spirit that powered the original Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon series.

Preacher hasn't been a straight adaptation of the comic book ever, and at certain points changes were made that didn't work as intended, but for the most part, Preacher never stopped feeling like Preacher, and while that attitude has carried the show far, the comic makes a few sneaky returns in the finale episode.

It's strange that in a show with a clear-cut villain, said villain escapes the bulk of judgment by the end of the series.

The twists and turns never stop on Preacher season 4 as the Grail's plan to end the world hits a small (giant) snag.

Preacher Season 4 Episode 9

Preacher has always been a show marked by characters having different motivations. Even back in the first season, when Jesse undertakes his initial mission to track down God, Tulip and Cas had their own motivations. As the show has progressed, that hasn't changed. Tulip wants to kill Humperdoo and throw off the end of the world, Cas wants Humperdoo to live, and Jesse still wants to track down God and get answers for His abandonment of the world while stopping the end of said world. Everyone's got their own mission, be it secret or otherwise.

Preacher Season 4 Episode 1

AMC’s Preacher has always struck me as a bit of an underdog, a show with something to prove. Part of this may stem from the source material itself, a Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and the late Steve Dillon that, over the last two decades, has garnered a cult following. Kudos to Sam Catlin, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg for figuring out how to adapt a property that doesn’t easily lend itself to the small screen. And yet here we are, staring down Preacher’s fourth and final season.

The hit show Preacher will return tonight with its fourth and final season. The show debut on May 22, 2016. The show is based off a comic book by the same name by creators Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Preacher was developed for television by Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin, and Seth Rogen. Jesse Custer ( Dominic Cooper) is a hard-drinking chain-smoking preacher who, endures a crisis of faith. Jesse becomes infused with an extraordinary power. He embarks on a quest to better understand his new gift and literally finds God, alongside his trigger-happy ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and a new vampire friend, Cassidy( played by Joseph Gilgun) Seth Rogen and the people involved behind the scenes knew Preacher would have a four- season run well in advance. I don’t know about you, but each glimpse AMC reveals for Preacher’s new season gets me more excited than the last one. And why not—this is the show’s fourth and final season, after all. And from the looks of this exclusive sneak peek, Preacher is poised to deliver nothing less than Armageddon itself. For fans of the Vertigo cult-favorite comic by Garth Ennis and the late Steve Dillon, these last ten episodes create quite the bittersweet dilemma. It’s one thing to see Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) take on Herr Starr (Pip Torrens) and the Grail in a final showdown, but it’s quite another to realize that we may never see another TV show...

AMC Networks has rounded out its premiere dates for late-summer and fall including AMC’s documentary series Hip Hop: The Songs That Show America, which drops on October 13; its 23rd annual horror marathon FearFest (October 13); and new five-part true-crime series The Preppy Murder: Death in Central Park (November 13).

Julie Gonzalo and Staz Nair have joined the cast of “Supergirl” for its upcoming fifth season. Gonzalo will portray iconic DC character Andrea Rojas aka Acrata, a polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire who makes a hostile advance into the world of media — but of course she also holds a mysterious secret. Nair will play a hardened, cynical reporter named William Dey, who looks down on Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) idealism on the surface but has criminal underworld ties that will take the story in darker, deeper directions. Both actors will make their debuts during the fifth season premiere Sunday, Oct. 6 on the CW.
