Ghoulies II 4K Uhd from Mvd

Ghoulies II will pop up on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on July 9 as part of Mvd’s 4K LaserVision Collection. The 1987 sequel has been has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision/Hdr and Lpcm 2.0 Stereo Audio.

Both the 90-minute theatrical and 91-minute unrated cuts are included, along with reversible artwork, a slipcover, and a mini poster.

Albert Band (I Bury the Living) directs from a script by Dennis Paoli. Damon Martin, Royal Dano, Phil Fondacaro, J. Downing, and Kerry Remsen star. Charles Band executive produces.

Ghoulies II Blu-ray from Mvd

Ghoulies II will be released on Blu-ray on September 12 via Mvd’s Rewind Collection. It comes with reversible artwork, a slipcover, and a mini poster. The first Ghoulies hits 4K Uhd and Blu-ray the same day.

The 1987 horror-comedy sequel is directed by Albert Band (I Bury the Living) and written by Dennis Paoli. Damon Martin, Royal Dano, Phil Fondacaro, J. Downing, and Kerry Remsen star. Charles Band executive produces.

Ghoulies II has been scanned in 2K from the interpositive, overseen by MGM, with Lpcm 2.0 Stereo Audio. Special features include a making-of featurette with Band, Remsen, actor Donnie Jeffcoat, and special effects artist Gino Crognale; an introduction and interview with Paoli; and deleted scenes.

Now up for pre-order, Vinegar Syndrome is bringing Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 to 4K Ultra HD later this month, the film newly scanned and restored in 4K!

Rick Grimes had his own Luke Skywalker "rancor pit moment" in season 7 of The Walking Dead when he was forced to fight the spiked walker known as Winslow in the trash heaps of the Scavengers' junkyard. Following the steel cable walker massacre from the mid-season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, you may have thought that the living dead highlight would go unchallenged for quite some time. But Rick's showdown with the Scavengers' nearly indestructible armored walker (in their own version of the rancor pit) threw the gauntlet down once again, and Greg Nicotero has shared concept art of the nightmare-inducing walker.

On Instagram, Nicotero revealed the concept art and a behind-the-scenes photo of the headpiece for the spiked walker that nearly ended Rick's life inside a gladiator pit of trash. – Bleecker Street has secured U.S. distribution rights to Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s true-life story, “Megan Leavey.” The film is based on the life of Leavey (Kate Mara), a young marine corporal in the K9 unit whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq.

Bleecker Street will release the movie on June 9, 2017.

Chicago – The 2016 Imagen Awards will take place this Friday, Sept. 9. Founded by television legend Norman Lear, the Imagen Awards (“Eee-mah-hen”) encourage the entertainment industry to portray the Latino community in a positive light. One nominee, Best Supporting Actress for NBC’s “Telenovela,” is Alex Meneses.

Alexandra “Alex” Meneses is a Chicago native, from a Southside neighborhood – graduating from Mother McAuley High School – and has been a working actress since the mid-1990s. Her first major role was as Teresa Morales in “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” and she had a recurring role as Brad Garrett’s girlfriend in “Everybody Loves Raymond.” She had film roles in “Selena,” “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas” and “Auto Focus.” In 2016, she joined the cast of “Telenovela” – as Isabela Santamaria – and is nominated at the Imagen Awards for Best Supporting Actress in her role for that show.

Here you have another Scream Factory title, which will be judged a little harsher than usual. MGM recently released its own Blu-ray version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and for the most part, it was just fine. In addition to the MGM Region A release, there was also an Arrow Video-released Region B Blu-ray, which most fans have considered the “definitive edition” until now. I have nothing but respect for Arrow Video. They are basically the Criterion of B-movies right now. But I think this new TCM Blu-ray may just trump their excellent release, at least ever-so-slightly in the Pq department. As for the movie itself, I’m a big fan, always have been. I know it’s a divisive title among fans because it abandoned the relentlessly terrifying tone of the first movie, and opted for a more humorous approach, but it’s utterly fascinating. This third week of April has some exciting home entertainment offerings for us genre fans, including the special edition releases of two cult classics I adore, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Stuff. An indie film I’ve been hearing about for a while now, Grimewave, also makes its way to DVD this Tuesday and while it may not be traditional horror, Oscar-winner The Revenant certainly has enough badassery contained within its cinematic frames to be worthy of mentioning this week, and it arrives on both Blu-ray and DVD on April 19th.

Other notable releases this week include Smothered (which features a ton of horror icons and was directed by John Schneider of Smallville and Dukes of Hazzard fame), 15 Till Midnight, Classroom 6, Ip Man 3, German Angst and She Wolf Rising.

The downfall that faced Tobe Hooper's creative relationship with The Cannon Group in the eighties wasn't much different than the fate of George A. Romero's collaboration with Orion Pictures. After leaving an iconic legacy for horror in the previous decade, Hooper had a reputation to live up to when he made a three picture deal with Golan and Globus that resulted in the ambitious, but entertaining failure Lifeforce, the misunderstood parody The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and the family friendly remake of Invaders From Mars that helped sink Cannon out of Hollywood forever.

When considering the talent involved in this production that included screenwriting duties from Dan O' Bannon and special effects from legends like Stan Winston (who was simultaneously working on James Cameron's Aliens), John Dykstra (Star Wars) and Alec Gillis, this quite frankly should have been an exhilarating fantasy spectacle at the very least. This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Into The Woods are among the feature nominees announced today for the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards. There is a tie in the Television and New Media Series Best Contemporary Make-Up Category resulting in six nominees. The awards will be presented during a ceremony February 14 at Paramount Studios. Scream Factory’s Blu-ray release of Pumpkinhead, was one of their most impressive releases of the year (so far). That review will be up this evening. In the meantime today Scream Factory announces their release of Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, to be released on Blu-ray on October 28th. We all knew it was coming, but now we know exactly when, we have the cover art, and we have a list of the bonus content. This isn’t going to be quite as extra-heavy as their release of the previous film, but I have no doubts that it will be a solid release regardless. Plus, how cool is it to have the sequel sitting right next to the original on your carefully-organized shelves? Showtime series Homeland swept the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards netting popular awards for Damien Lewis (Best Actor), Claire Danes (Best Actress), and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Best Drama Series.

The Primetime wins helped Homeland secure its place as the Emmy's surprise hit of 2012. Lewis beat out Emmy favourites Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston, who himself won the award twice for his role as Walter White in AMC.s Breaking Bad.

HBO.s Game Change tied with Homeland with four awards won, including Jay Roach.s Best Director for a Miniseries and Outstanding Miniseries. Combined with the Creative Arts Emmy wins, Homeland won a collective six awards this Emmy season.

Despite Showtime.s popular wins, HBO came out on top earning six awards in total for their programs nominated. ABC came soon after with five awards with its flagship show Modern Family earning an Outstanding Directing for a...

HBO's "Game of Thrones" was the big winner at last night's Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards with six. but two of the horror crowd's favorites also took home one Emmy each.

Well, this is a shocker: "American Horror Story" has tied "Mad Men" to lead the nominees for 2012 Emmys with 17 nominations each. It did so in the category of "Miniseries or Movie" rather than "Drama Series", but we'll take it. Pennsylvania-based independent production company Happy Cloud Pictures is set to begin production on its sixth feature film, Razor Days, a grim story of survival and revenge starring Amy Lynn Best and Debbie Rochon.

Razor Days represents quite a departure from the hybrid films Happy Cloud is known for (i.e., the “zombie-noir” The Resurrection Game, the meta-fictional Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut, the horror-comedies Severe Injuries and Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnations) and is set in the very real world.

From the Press Release:

Razor Days tells the story of three women, each a survivor of horrific violence, who bond together first for support and then to exact revenge on those responsible for their horrific pasts, including a group of cannibalistic “weekend warriors”. This gritty, character-driven thriller begins production in mid-November.

“We’ve been developing this script for six or seven years now,” says writer-director Mike Watt.

Writer Scott Essman sent along a batch of behind-the-scenes photos of makeup FX artist Gino Crognale doing his thing for the recently released slasher flick Sorority Row (a couple also appear with our set-visit report in Fango #287), plus a pic of director Stewart Hendler instructing actress Rumer Willis. Needless to say, there are spoilers below regarding the death scenes for those who haven’t caught the movie yet, but if you have, or if you’re not concerned about such things, dig in!

Sorority Row, also starring Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Audrina Partridge and Carrie Fisher, is currently in release from Summit Entertainment; see our reviews here and here, and our two-part interview with Hendler here and here.

Summit Entertainment is criticized for 'watering down horror' with their Twilight franchise. Those critics will eat their words when they see Sorority Row, a full-on '80s slasher throwback with a high body count and black sense of humor.

A loose adaptation of the minor classic House On Sorority Row (no head-in-a-toilet this time), it's the story of a Sorority prank gone wrong. With one of their own dead, the girls of Theta Pi are ready to confess. Lead sister Jessica (Leah Pipes) convinces them to hide the body instead, noting "I would rather not spend my child-bearing years in lock-up!"

Set to marry a Senator's son, Jessica and the rest of the girls have bright futures upon graduation. Unfortunately, a hooded maniac shows up with their murder weapon and begins picking them off one by one.

That's a standard slasher movie plot of guilt and revenge, but Sorority Row...

A little sliver of bad news for fans of "Werewolf". We won't be seeing it in stores as planned on September 1st from Shout Factory! Don't get too broken up though; the delay is not a long one.

According to TVShowsOnDVD the five-disc DVD set has been pushed back about a month for an October 6th release.

The site also learned what a couple of the included special features will be. Fans can expect two featurettes for sure with more likely to come. Look for -- The Man Who Was Alamo Joe with actor Lance LeGault and To Build a Better Werewolf with make-up F/X coordinators Greg Cannom and Gino Crognale to be tantalizing your supplemental bone. Before it was a film lab, it had been a meat-packing plant—and a slaughterhouse. All of this seems appropriate, if not ironic, because right now, the space that used to house a bank of bulk VHS tape-transferring decks is now a grand dining room, complete with a spiral staircase winding up to a balcony. Overhead hangs a delicate crystal chandelier. In the corner is a Christmas tree. And in just a few moments, a hooded figure is going to hurl a flaming Molotov cocktail at an unfortunate girl’s head.

Wrs, the lab, is no more. Now it’s the home of all the interior sets for Sorority Row.
