Songwriter ("May You Always", "Along the Navajo Trail"), composer,
director and record executive, educated in high school and through
private music study. He was program director for ABC Radio for ten
years, and produced and directed the Paul Whiteman programs, and
created other network shows, including "Town Hall Jazz Concerts",
"Metropolitan Auditions of the Air", and "Sammy Kaye's Sunday
Serenade". Since 1954, he had his own recording service. Joining ASCAP
in 1942, his other popular-song compositions include "Mad About Him,
Sad Without Him Blues", "Travelin' Blues", "A Nightingale Can Sing the
Blues", "I Tipped My Hat and Slowly Rode Away", "It Takes a Long, Long
Train", "Corns for My Country", "Man on the Carousel", "Serenade to
Spring", "This Is My Song", "Dreamin'", "Dream Harbor", "April Fool",
and "Casanova Cricket".
