Since Netflix hit it big with Stranger Things, which remains one of the platform’s most popular series, other industry giants have attempted to replicate its success by delving into the streaming business. For Paramount, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone proved to be its biggest cash cow, and despite being on the verge of its end, the Western writer isn’t slowing down with more spin-offs in the Yellowstone universe.

Movies about siblings and their clashes, all related to their pasts, as well as their insecurities and their differentiating relationships with their parents, work in touching the heartstrings primarily because the drama is pulling from recognizable emotions. The tricky balance of ensuring that events play out for the conflict to occur and resolve while also keeping naturalistic tonalities at play is what separates soap operas from impactful drama. It also becomes an acting showcase for all the leads in the films as well.
Ben Snyder’s “Allswell in New York” suffers from a tonal as well as a focus problem. It has too many plots on its plate to finally hone in on the lives of the three Nuyorcan women at the center of the story. In the old days of Hollywood, people of color were often relegated to being cannon fodders in big-budget releases. While things have drastically improved in the last few decades, some projects still bear this issue, and it appears Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King season 2 might be subject to it.

Tulsa King has brought forth several notable faces out in the open embracing their true criminal minds. In this actor, Sylvester Stallone might be the most significant, as the mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi. [Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Tulsa King Season Episode 2, “Triad.”] After making what could’ve been a grave mistake, Armand (Max Casella) finally made things right and set it square with Dwight (Sylvester Stallone) on the penultimate episode of the season on Tulsa King. After stealing half a million dollars from the dispensary by holding up Goodie Carangi (Chris Caldovino) at gunpoint, Armand went on the run and found himself at a very literal crossroads. Instead of taking off with his cash, though, he decided to turn around to face the music with Dwight, asking his boss to take his life so he didn’t have to do it himself. Though Dwight might’ve been tempted to do just that in a former life, as the General of Tulsa, he decides to be merciful and make good use of Armand’s desperation. With Armand’s intel and a tentative truce between Dwight, Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough...

50 years after missing out on a part in Francis Ford Coppola's gangster epic The Godfather, Sylvester Stallone's mobster dreams finally came true with Paramount+ series Tulsa King, co-created by Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan. As Dwight Manfredi, a fresh outta prison capo tasked with rebuilding his life and criminal empire out in Oklahoma, Stallone deftly balanced the show's ambitiously varied genre leanings — between comedy and drama, Western and crime thriller — in a way audiences, well, couldn't refuse. Now, after *that* cliffhanger S1 finale, the man they call The General is back to fight for his Tulsa King throne in the show's hotly anticipated second season. And if the first trailer's anything to go by, it's looking set to be another knockout from the guy who gave us Rocky. Check it out below:

Dwight “The General” Manfredi is coming back with a vengeance.
Sylvester Stallone returns to the mean streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the new season of “Tulsa King” on Paramount+. The Taylor Sheridan-created series — which was run by Terence Winter in Season 1 before pivoting to a more collaborative ensemble of writer/producers working without a showrunner for Season 2 — has released its first trailer, which sees the New York mafioso facing a new set of foes in the land where the buffalo roam.
Season 1 of “Tulsa King” followed Stallone’s Manfredi as he leaves prison after serving a 20-year sentence while refusing to testify against his mob associates. But changes to the family power structure during his time inside left him with an icy welcome upon his release. Rather than returning to the fold in New York, he’s sent to Tulsa to set up a new crime empire from scratch.
