Thanks to its over-the-top jargon and the self-absorbed nature of many of the people who work within it, the advertising industry is a strong target for satire. The Brief, a new web series from Matt Sadowski and Dustin Brown, provides exactly that. It takes the life experiences of its creative team and uses them to construct a number of ridiculous scenarios set in the agency world.
The Brief stars Jesse Rath and Michael Seater as a copywriter and an art director, respectively. Despite their odd couple relationship, they must work together in order to come out on top in an agency filled with ridiculous characters. Right from the top of the first episode, the jokes fly fast and free; Sadowski’s script is filled with cheeky dialogue that highlights the absurd nature of the characters he has created.

If the big studios can be all about remaking classics, then why can’t b-movie makers remake classic bad movies? That seems to be Jim Wynorski’s newest niche. The Chopping Mall director has already wrapped a remake of the 1959 creature feature The Giant Gila Monster, and now he’s revealed plans to remake something even more dubious: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.
We’ve previously told you about Wynorski’s Giant Gila Monster remake – now simply titled Gila! - that he cooked up with Hellbound: Hellraiser II helmer Tony Randel. Now the fine folks at Undead Backbrain got hold of the first artwork and some production stills for this shot in color but still set in the 1950’s updating of one of the cheesiest movies of all time.
Ex-Playboy Playmate Julie McCullough (2012: Ice Age), Terence Knox (Children of the Corn 2: The Final Sacrifice), Matt Austin (“Power Rangers S.P.D....

What motion picture could possibly be so epic it would require the combined directorial talents of the director of Hellbound: Hellraiser II and the director of Chopping Mall? Would you believe a remake of the 1959 bad movie classic The Giant Gila Monster?
If you’re going to remake a movie, you might as well remake a bad one, and The Giant Gila Monster is most definitely a bad movie. Sure, the ultra low budget 1959 drive-in creature feature that used footage of a real live gila monster as its greatest special effect has marked its place as a classic b-movie; let’s just not kid ourselves about it actually being a good movie.
So can a low budget remake of The Giant Gila Monster actually make a good movie out of hallmark of bad cinema? It certainly can’t tarnish its legacy.

Before the tragic sudden death of John Hughes this past summer four filmmakers from Toronto -- Michael Facciolo (producer) , Kari Hollend (producer), Lenny Panzer (co-creator) and Matt Austin Sadowski (director) -- spent four years making a tribute documentary about the reclusive director, nabbing interviews with some of the main actors from his films (Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson to name a few), directors who have been influenced by his iconic work (Kevin Smith and Jason Reitman) and traveling to Illinois last year to find Hughes. After Hughes's death the project suddenly became a hot commodity and got a worldwide deal with Alliance Films which released the film, Don't You Forget About Me, on DVD today. Learn more about the...

Lead singer Jim Kerr features in the movie after director Matt Austin-Sadowski flew to Scotland to interview him, according to Contactmusic. Hughes Documentary Set For International Release
A low-budget documentary about late writer/director John Hughes is set to hit theatres across the globe.
Don't You Forget About Me tells the story of Hughes' life and was completed before the beloved filmmaker died from a heart attack, aged 59.
Alliance Films of Montreal signed a deal to release the project shortly after his death made headlines on Thursday, reports trade magazine Variety.
Several stars from Hughes' hit movies took part in director Matt Austin-Sadowski's film, including The Breakfast Club stars Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson, Weird Science's Kelly LeBrock and Pretty In Pink actor Andrew McCarthy.
Austin-Sadowski cites Hughes as one of his greatest influences, and hopes the documentary will inspire a renewed interest in his work.
He says, "He inspired me as a person, going through an awkward adolescence, as many people do. He took affairs of the heart very seriously, and no other director gave teenagers that sort of treatment at that time."...

The Canadian makers of a documentary inspired by film director John Hughes must be having mixed feelings about his recent tragic death.
As big fans of Hughes' films from the 1980s (which included The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off) Matt Austin, Kari Hollend, Mike Facciolo and Lenny Panzer would have been saddened by the recent news that the director had passed away from a heart attack at the age of only 59. According to Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper, however, something positive came out of the event for the four men. The resulting upwelling of interest in Hughes has led Alliance Films to sign a deal with them to distribute their independently-made documentary, Don't You Forget About Me. The film focuses on the director's portrayal of teenage life.
"It's a very uncomfortable feeling and you can't help but feel guilty," said Hollend, who is one of the film's producers.

Following the death of ‘80s film icon John Hughes last Thursday, you may have come across a trailer for an unreleased documentary, titled “Don’t You Forget About Me” (if not, watch it here), about the filmmaker and his beloved movies. Attached to the trailer was the news that the people at Alliance Films, a Montreal-based distributor, were reportedly busy making a deal to buy the doc. According to Variety, the world distribution rights to the doc were secured by noon on Friday.
The 75-minute film, directed by actor Matt Austin-Sadowski (the Green Ranger on “Power Rangers: S.P.D.”), is described as being similar to Michael Moore’s “Roger & Me” because it primarily involves the filmmakers’ attempt to locate and interview Hughes. There is also a look at the “Breakfast Club” director’s life and career, and the doc features interviews from many of the stars of Hughes’ films,...

The fitting title of a new documentary about the late, great John Hughes is "Don't You Forget About Me." That title is, of course, an homage to the new wave group Simple Minds and their similarly titled song for "The Breakfast Club," one of Hughes' 80s classics.
This documentary did not have a future until the director's untimely death last week.
Now, Alliance Films has purchased world rights to the documentary.
The film delves deeper into Hughes' pop culture hits such as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "The Breakfast Club," and "Sixteen Candles."
But it is also an "in-search of" type of documentary with the filmmakers (headed by director Matt Austin-Sadowski) going to suburban Illinois to find the reclusive Hughes.
Why did Austin-Sadowski do the documentary? He tells Variety, "He inspired me as a person, going through an awkward adolescence, as many people do."

A documentary about late film director John Hughes has found a distributor. Alliance Films has picked up the rights to Don't You Forget About Me, which looks at the life and work of the Home Alone writer. The project's title is a nod to the Simple Minds hit, which features in a famous scene in Hughes's classic 1985 teen drama The Breakfast Club. Instead of a traditional biopic, the movie follows Kari Hollend, Matt Austin-Sadowski and Lenny Panzer embarking on a road trip to meet Hughes. The documentary was made without public funding and features interviews with Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Mia Sara (more)...

There are times when people clearly take advantage of the death of a celebrity (the dude selling Mj shirts on the corner of my block), and there are times when coincidences just happen. It was a coincidence that when 2Pac died, he had just finished an album where he made plenty of references to getting killed. It was a coincidence that Heath Ledger died just prior to the release of his biggest role ever. And it.s a coincidence that director Matt Austin-Sadowski of Toronto happened to finish his documentary about John Hughes just prior to the influential director.s death. Coincidence or not, that death has brought mass attention to Don.t You Forget About Me, and according to Variety, the film has picked up a distribution deal with Alliance Films. A low budget documentary, Don.t You Forget About Me takes a more personal approach to the...

Last week after we learned about the death of iconic 1980's teen movie writer/director John Hughes, we learned about a documentary film which had been in production for the last three years. Don't You Forget About Me is an independently funded Canadian documentary about four filmmakers who went in search of John Hughes who disappeared from the public eye in 1991. We even ran the trailer, which you should check out here. Before Hughes' passing, the doc was facing an uncertain future, but with more people interested in revisiting the filmmaker's legacy, Alliance Films of Montreal quickly snapped up the distribution rights according to Variety. While it isn't likely that the filmmakers ever got to speak to Hughes, the director Matt Austin-Sadowski claims that the film was completed before his death, and that the ending is not going to be changed because of it. The trailer shows footage of...

The Canadian documentary Don't You Forget About Me has found a distributor at the cost of the life of the movie's subject, John Hughes. This past Friday, the day after the acclaimed director/writer/producer passed away at the age of 59, the doc's director found the world calling.
Matt Austin-Sadowski's phone was ringing off the hook. Reporters wanted to talk to him and find out more about his film which chronicles him and three others taking a road trip to find Hughes in his self-imposed solitude living somewhere around Chicago. With the unexpected passing of the filmmaker, Austin-Sadowski's film and his story were in demand.
"He inspired me as a person, going through an awkward adolescence, as many people do," Austin-Sadowski told Variety when asked why he chose to make his film. "He took affairs of the heart very seriously, and no other director gave teenagers that sort of treatment at that time.

So imagine you're a documentary filmmaker making a film with no marketable future. Probably pretty easy considering that documentary on scissors you've been passion projecting since you were in college. But, now, imagine that the subject of your film dies unexpectedly and now everyone wants a piece of you and your footage. Yes, I realize that the prospect of scissors dying is difficult to wrap your mind around, but use that capacity for abstract thought your middle school guidance counselor bragged about, and keep up. According to Variety, Canadian filmmaker Matt Austin-Sadowski sold the rights to Don't You Forget About Me - his John Hughes doc - to Alliance within 24 hours of the movie icon's passing on Thursday. The film celebrates the life and work of John Hughes while the story focuses on Austin-Sadowski and several others on a road trip to find the director who was known for Salinger-esque reclusive behavior by the twilight of...

According to reports from TorontoFilm.Net, a new 75-minute, low-budget feature doc, Don't You Forget About Me, focusing on late writer/director John "Ferris Bueller" Hughes, has been snapped up by distributor Alliance Films of Montreal. Toronto film-maker Matt Austin-Sadowski says the feature looks at the life and work of Hughes, creator of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, lensed during a road trip in which Austin-Sadowski and producers Kari Hollend, Mike Facciolo and Lenny Panzer drove to Illinois to track down the reclusive director. Actors interviewed in the doc include Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Mia Sara, Kelly LeBrock and Andrew McCarthy. Hughes' 'muse', actress Molly Ringwald, who shares a February 18 birthday with the director (as well as yours truly), reportedly refused to participate in the project. Sneak Peek the trailer from John Hughes' 1985 feature The Breakfast Club.

John Hughes died Thursday afternoon, and by midday Friday, the producers of 'Don't You Forget About Me,' a documentary about the director and his influence on Hollywood, had found a distributor in Alliance Films International. Matt Austin and Kari Hollend discuss what happened last week in this CNN video, and their trailer for the film appears below. Matt and Kari actually interviewed me for the project, back in November 2006. I don't expect to be in the final cut, as this was my very first time on-camera (aw!) and I'm pretty sure I couldn't stop rambling about how the girl in Ferris Bueller's Day Off who lazily blew an enormous gum bubble in class was, like, a totally realistic depiction of high school. (Wait, never mind. This is a brilliant observation and should definitely appear in the film.) Anyway, I loved how they set up that particular shoot in...
