Kathy Bates is making a massive comeback with her career in her latest role as Madeline Matlock in the new show Matlock.
The new series is a fan favorite and was renewed for Season 2 after just two episodes. Although Kathy was scared at first, she is coming into her own with the role.
Kathy shared that this would be her last role, and she was ready to retire before being offered this new role with a twist. She seems to love the acting, and hopefully, the show will last for years.
The original Matlock featured Andy Griffith as an older lawyer who solves cases each week while dispensing wisdom to everyone, so there are some differences, as Monsters and Critics has reported.
Still, the new show’s surprising twist, revealed at the end of the first episode, explains why Madeline Matlock is trying so hard to get a job at...

My goodness, there are some shady individuals in the viper’s nest on Matlock Season 1 Episode 4. I know their “web of lies” is where lawyers get their mail, but this episode was downright dirty.
As far as cases of the week, the series has done a great job of delivering slam dunks at the end of every episode. However, we were living in a fool’s paradise, thinking it would be happy endings till the end of time.
Due to this hour of Matlock, there’s a good chance many viewers will never hear the words “Texas Two-Step” the same again.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS) Work Place Romances Can Be Tough In A Viper’s Nest
The case in question revolved around a widower who was suing his building due to the wrongful death of his late wife caused by Legionella. If you read the Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 Spoilers, that wasn’t news to you.

CBS has delivered a swift, and positive, verdict on its first-year drama Matlock.
The network has ordered a second season of the series after just two episodes have aired. The legal drama, which stars Kathy Bates in a reimagining of the Andy Griffith-led 1980s-90s staple, has performed strongly in those two episodes. The Sept. 22 premiere, which followed an NFL doubleheader and 60 Minutes, drew 7.73 million same-day viewers, CBS’ best series debut in more than five years; that figure grew to 10.67 million with three days of cross-platform viewing.
After several weeks off, Matlock’s second episode on Oct. 17 (airing in its regular Thursday home) brought in 6.38 million viewers, 44 percent more than the same-day average for its time period last season.
“This reconceived Matlock was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Matlock Season 1 Episode 2, “Rome, in a Day.”] Matty’s daughter is a major presence in CBS‘ Matlock, but she hasn’t been seen for tragic reasons. Kathy Bates’ Matty and her husband, Edwin (Sam Anderson), revealed painful memories of their daughter’s final months in the second episode of the series, which aired on Thursday, October 17 on CBS. Will we ever meet Ellie onscreen? Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman tells TV Insider that Matty and Edwin’s daughter will make an appearance in flashback form this season. Matlock stars Bates as the titular character, a brilliant septuagenarian who snags a job at a prestigious law firm under the guise of being a down-on-her-luck grandma in need of work after the death of her no-good husband. It’s true that Matty has a 14-year-old grandson to raise, but she’s far from strapped for cash. Madeline Matlock is actually Madeline Kingston, her husband is very ...

Don’t call it a reboot, because, as many viewers have discovered, the new CBS drama Matlock starring Oscar winner Kathy Bates is everything but.
By now, it’s an open secret that Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman has done it again. With Matlock, Urman hasn’t simply taken an established IP and swapped in Bates for Andy Griffith’s original Ben Matlock. Instead, she’s turned the show on its head with her premiere twist, leaning into the familiar to deliver the totally unexpected. Bates’ Madeline “Matty” Matlock is folksy, not because she naturally is, but because societal expectations prefer women of a certain age that way.
For Matty, it’s an invitation to use society’s low expectations of older women for a greater good. And in this case, it’s to infiltrate the power law firm Jacobson Moore to find the critical documents they buried...

There’s a lot going on in the new “Matlock” series — or, as Matty (Kathy Bates) might say, “There’s more moving parts than a Swiss watch in a sandstorm!”
First, there’s the premise Matty tells anyone who will listen: After the death of her husband and daughter, Madeline “Matty” Matlock, Esq. talks her way into a new gig at a prestigious law firm, Jacobson & Moore, in order to support her young grandson. She’s happy to start at the bottom — working alongside two other junior associates in a cramped office filled with three desks — but the penniless attorney is eager to shift toward the firm’s most lucrative cases: pharmaceuticals. Oh, and her name? That’s just a coincidence. She’s not related to Andy Griffith’s defense attorney because he’s just a character on TV!
But then there’s the twist: At the end of the first episode,...

In the second episode of Netflix’s Painkiller, two sales representatives (West Duchovny and Dina Shihabi) call in on various doctors’ offices to push a pill that promises to reduce pain and enhance quality of life. Like all good sales reps, they come bearing gifts, among them a cute stuffed toy in the shape of a pill, a recurring motif throughout the series meant to represent danger disguised as something innocuous. The drug in question is OxyContin, and the sales reps work for Purdue Pharma, the company that, under the ownership of the now infamous Sackler family, marketed the opioid to millions of Americans to devastating results.
The plot unfolds as Edie Flowers (Uzo Aduba), a jaded state investigator, recounts her findings to the lawyers trying to build a case against the Sacklers. The series attempts to address every possible angle of the scandal, from the company that created the drug,...

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] OxyContin was promoted as a nonaddictive pill that would end pain; instead, it brought agony. Netflix‘s six-episode limited series Painkiller (covering similar ground as Hulu’s Dopesick) dramatizes how the powerful prescription opioid, manufactured by drug company Purdue Pharma, led to a massive rise in addiction and deaths. It’s populated by real and composite players. The Villains Purdue’s owners, the Sackler family, especially cunning president and chairman Richard. “This is a conspiracy story,” says executive producer Eric Newman, comparing Purdue to the Mexican cartels in his hit show Narcos. Executive producer and director Pete Berg adds, “They knew they were basically mass-producing heroin.” Young sales reps were sent out to charm doctors into buying their wonder drug, promising higher profits. “From a capitalist standpoint,” observes Berg, “it was a brilliant plan. For humanity, it was an absolute ...

Netflix’s upcoming limited series “Painkiller” is lifting the veil on America’s opioid crisis, investigating the role of one family in making OxyContin “the No. 1 opioid in the country.”
“All of human behavior is essentially comprised of two things: run from pain, run toward pleasure; pain, pleasure,” Matthew Broderick’s Richard Sackler said in the series’ official trailer. “If we place ourselves right there between pain and pleasure, we will never have to worry about money again.”
As the Sackler dynasty’s Purdue Pharma recruits a batch of fresh-faced sales workers who they claim will convince doctors to “take pain seriously,” an investor from the U.S. attorneys office (Uzo Aduba) is determined to take the family responsible for countless deaths down.
“You lie, you hurt people, you go down,” Aduba said. “They are doing the exact same thing as crack dealers but they are getting rewarded it.”

Quaker City Night Hawks present a thrilling three-minute mini-movie in their new video for the grooving “Suit in the Back.” The song appears on the Fort Worth, Texas, band’s latest album Qcnh.
Directed by Max Loeb and Kilby Rodell, the clip depicts a biker who falls in with a mysterious drug dealer and hauls duffel bags full of cash to pick up his product. He momentarily gets to experience the spoils — lap dances from strippers and generous pours of the quality stuff — before he realizes he’s been set...

Ten years into the life of Quaker City Night Hawks, David Matsler and Sam Anderson had to stop and think about what they were doing. After three albums of fuzzed-out blues-rock, the last of which — 2016’s El Astronauta — was a sci-fi-themed concept record, Qcnh needed a new drummer and bassist. So they did what any self-respecting rock band would do: They got heavier — and weirder.
“We have a completely different set of weapons now and that opens so many doors for us,” says Anderson, who shares singing and guitar-playing duties with Matsler,...

The rock & roll lifestyle is all fun and games until the law gets involved. Just ask Quaker City Night Hawks, who detail a white-knuckle run in with the fuzz in the funky new jam “Suit in the Back,” the first song to be premiered from their next LP, Qcnh.
Rattling along on a thick, thumping groove, “Suit in the Back” walks a swaggering walk but talks a slightly more cautious talk. “It’s about a band that’s on tour and gets pulled over, and there’s stuff in [the car] that...

"You say you're not happy, but you won't change anything." The Orchard has debuted the official trailer for an indie romantic comedy called Song of Back and Neck, the directorial debut of actor / producer Paul Lieberstein, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Lieberstein stars in the film, and also writes, directs, and produces making this very much his own personal project. The amusing film is about an ill-fated, middle-aged divorce lawyer who suffers from chronic back and neck pain, who falls for one of his clients while also discovering an acupuncturist who helps him deal with the pain. In addition to Lieberstein, the film co-stars Rosemarie DeWitt as his love interest, with a full cast including Brian d'Arcy James, Clark Duke, Paul Feig, Robert Pine, Sam Anderson, Raymond Ma, and Ike Barinholtz. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer for Paul Lieberstein's Song of Back and Neck, direct...

Stephen Herek’s Critters (1986) was an out-of-left-field minor hit for New Line Cinema; its mix of tongue-in-cheek humor and sci-fi horror clicked with audiences who were still looking for something in a Gremlin-esque vein (although the filmmakers claimed their idea was first), so it was only natural that a sequel would follow. Enter Critters 2: The Main Course, the feature directorial debut of Mick Garris, one of horror’s great gatekeepers, and you know what? It’s as much fun as the first.
Audiences at the time of its late April release, however, didn’t feel the same and the film wasn’t a success, commercially or critically. Much like the Krites themselves, though, time has a way of rolling on and knocking down past perceptions to stop at the point of appreciation: Critters 2 is bigger, bolder, and strives for well-earned laughs that it gets.

Ahead of its October 21st release, a new trailer for Mike Flanagan's Ouija: Origin of Evil teases the 1965-set prequel to 2014's Ouija, including one girl's creepy description of what it feels like to be strangled.
"It was never just a game. Inviting audiences again into the lore of the spirit board, Ouija: Origin of Evil tells a terrifying new tale as the follow-up to 2014’s sleeper hit that opened at number one. In 1965 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, this small family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.

Let’s face it, Ouija was pretty much worthless. It was forgettable and a wasted opportunity. The end product was definitely the result of too many hands in the pot. However, Universal knows that acquiring the license of using the “Ouija” name is definitely something that should be capitalized upon. It also doesn’t hurt that the first film did well at the box office, probably based off the name. Luckily for horror fans, they got a great director in Mike Flanagan to take a crack at the franchise and judging from the trailer, this should have been the original film.

Henry Thomas (Betrayal), Annalise Basso (Oculus), Elizabeth Reaser (“True Detective”), Lulu Wilson (Deliver Us from Evil), Parker Mack (MTV’s “Faking It”), Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel (Demon Legacy), and Doug Jones (Hellboy, “Fear Itself”) star.

It was never just a game. Universal has unveiled a trailer for the upcoming horror prequel Ouija: Origin of Evil, the follow-up to the Ouija movie from 2014. Did anyone even want a sequel to the first one? The film has quite a cast: Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, Doug Jones, Parker Mack, Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel, Annalise Basso, and Lulu Wilson. The plot for this one involves a young daughter of a family being taken over by a malevolent spirit, and things get increasingly freaky from there. I can't help but say this looks fairly generic, with some bland scares and the usual horror tropes, nothing unique. Oh well. Here's the first official trailer for Mike Flanagan's Ouija: Origin of Evil, direct from YouTube: Inviting audiences again into the lore of the spirit board, Ouija: Origin of Evil tells a terrifying new tale as the follow-up to 2014’s sleeper hit.

I missed the first Ouija movie, but Ouija: Origin of Evil (from Oculus and Before I Wake director Mike Flanagan) looks like a fun horror thriller. Personally, I don't really like watching horror films that are based on true stories, but I think ones that embrace the inherent craziness of their conceits like this are a lot more fun. The film stars Henry Thomas (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Gangs of New York), Elizabeth Reaser (Mad Men), Doug Jones, Parker Mack, Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel, Annalise Basso, and Lulu Wilson, and it hits theaters on October 21, just in time for Halloween.

After the back-to-back success of Oculus and Hush, writer-director Mike Flanagan will release his third feature of the year (after September’s Before I Wake) with Ouija: Origin of Evil. The first trailer introduces the family the film centers around, as their Ouija board scam becomes an all-too-chilling reality when the youngest member of the family gets in touch with an evil spirit.
The first film did well at the box-office (though much less so with critics, holding a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes) and it remains to be seen if Flanagan can balance studio needs with a more critically-minded eye. Other than a creepy use of a split-focus diopter, the trailer features traditional PG-13 horror conceits such as harsh lighting, a gliding camera, and a creepy child to try and deliver its scares.

It’s great feeling being able to say The Walking Dead has been getting a Lot of things completely right in recent weeks. Since the mid-season, the show has really stepped it up a level, and the inconsistency that has plagued it since the very beginning seems like a thing of the past – for now.
Episodes vary from all-out bloodbaths to aimless filler, though I’d place ‘Not Tomorrow Yet’ in the ‘tense thriller’ category. Proceedings started slowly, but the pace built up to full-speed, culminating in a terrific raid on the Saviours’ base and leaving the group with an agonising scenario to ponder.
If the show keeps up the intensity between now and the season finale, it could go down as one of the brightest patches in The Walking Dead’s entire run, but for now, here are 10 things that Episode 12 got absolutely right.

If “Noblesse Oblige” accomplishes nothing else, it at least briefly gets us back in contact with Boyd Crowder, the flesh-and-blood ne’er-do-well who occasionally just likes to get well beyond shitfaced with the woman he loves.
