If you were an Internet 1.0 denizen, and/or you count yourself among the fans of geek culture, then 2015's "Kung Fury" is probably a favorite of yours. The short film written, directed by, and starring Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, is a clever and vibrant homage to '80s action movies. A sort of collision between a meme, an Adult Swim special, a parody film, and a fan film (complete with its own underdog Kickstarter crowdfunding origin story) that beat the odds, "Kung Fury" features the involvement of celebrities like Jorma Taccone (of The Lonely Island) and David Hasselhoff, lending a bit of legitimate star power to what otherwise may have been seen as a curious goof. All this is to say that "Kung Fury" is thoroughly delightful, and its short length only helps make the prospect of a sequel more interesting.

Late in filmmaker Gregory Nava’s harrowing 1983 immigration drama El Norte, Guatemalan refugee Rosa (Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez) lays ailing in a Los Angeles hospital, ravaged by a fatal case of typhus acquired crawling through the rat-infested sewers underneath the Mexican-American border. Sadly resigned to her own death, she turns to her equally ill-fated brother Enrique (David Villalpando) to ask: “When will we find a home, Enrique? Maybe when we die?”–a blunt, heartbreaking moment among many.
But even setting aside the Guatemalan Civil War whose harsh realities provide El Norte its backdrop so too could Rosa’s mournful question could just as easily be asked in relation to the state of independent film in the Americas by the time of El Norte’s world premiere at the 1983 edition of the Telluride Film Festival.
After spending the bulk of the 1970s drinking and producing a series of increasingly unreleasable masterpieces, indie film pioneer John Cassavetes was,...

There was a time when TV guest stars were pure magic, popping up like hidden gems in your favorite shows.
Long before social media spoiled every surprise, guest appearances felt like little events that brought something extra to our screens.
You’d be watching a familiar show, and out of nowhere, a face you knew and loved would walk on, adding an unexpected thrill to the episode.
Mark Harmon on The Love Boat (ABC/Screenshot)
These weren’t ratings gimmicks or social media stunts; they were genuine surprises that made TV feel alive and unpredictable.
For me, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island were cozy weekend rituals, especially when I watched with my grandma.
It wasn’t about knowing every guest star — it was about the fun of seeing who would pop up next, making each episode feel like a surprise package.

The show Baywatch has become a staple in pop culture and has received widespread popularity around the world. The series is known for its ensemble cast of actors, bright red swimsuits, running scenes, and ridiculous storylines. Though it was initially canceled after the first season, its syndicated run made it the most-watched TV show in the world.
The highlight of the series is its ensemble cast of actors who have become prominent stars now. From David Hasselhoff to Yasmine Bleeth, many actors had their breakthrough with Baywatch. They have gone on to do a diverse range of work since the end of the series in 2001.

Michael “Newmie” Newman, the real-life lifeguard who appeared for 10 seasons on Baywatch as one of action show’s most popular characters, has died after his long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 67.
Newman died Sunday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Matthew Felker, the writer, director and producer behind the new Hulu docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was diagnosed in 2006.
“This terminal disease has allowed me a lot of thinking time, which I maybe didn’t want, but it’s brought me wisdom,” Newman told People magazine two months ago.
A onetime Iron Man competitor and firefighter who was 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds in his prime, Newman was the only Baywatch castmember who actually worked as a Los Angeles County lifeguard, having started out as a junior lifeguard in the shadow of the Santa Monica Pier when he was 10.

In light of the Christopher Nolan rumours, we take a look back at 1983’s Blue Thunder – a high-tech thriller that deserved more attention on its release.
It’s hard to pinpoint why the vehicular TV and film boom of the 1980s happened. Was it a coincidence that the likes of Knight Rider (1982), Firefox (also 1982), Blue Thunder (1983), Airwolf (1984) and Street Hawk (1985) all came out within a few years of each other?
Whatever the explanation, there was a brief period where vehicles got top billing, whether they were experimental planes (Firefox) helicopters, an ‘all-terrain attack motorcycle’ (Street Hawk) or Knight Rider.
Blue Thunder – the original 1983 film, not the short-lived TV spin-off which emerged the following year – is arguably the best of the lot. An action thriller directed by John Badham, it was one of the most exciting movies of its type released in the early 1980s – and yet, for some reason, several...

Deadpool and Wolverine featured quite a few surprise character appearances, with the Merc With a Mouth and Logan encountering Johnny Storm, Blade, Elektra, X-23 and Gambit shortly after they were sent to the Void.
While it wouldn't really be accurate to describe these fairly substantial roles as cameos, Cassandra Nova did enlist a number of Mutant variants as her henchmen, including Pyro, Juggernaut, Callisto, Toad and Psylocke.
Now, a new behind-the-scenes photo reveals that stuntman David Macdonald suited-up as another character that didn't make the cut, and fans believe it was a variant of Nick Fury.
Though he is listed as Erg - a Morlock with an eye-patch with similar powers to Cyclops - in the photo, he looks nothing like that character, and is sporting a leather jacket that is very similar to the one Baywatch star David Hasselhoff wore in the 1998 TV movie, Nick Fury: Agent of Shield.

Saturday Night Live is about to hit its 50th anniversary, so no better time to count down the 25 funniest stars!
Narrowing down the best actors in a show that's run for five decades and boasted nearly 150 cast members is a challenge, to say the least. SNL has had its ups and downs over the years, with some periods boasting fantastic, brilliant comedic talents and others so low that many believed the show would be canceled. It's still survived, all thanks to that revolving cast of actors capable of pulling off these skits every week.
Many have gone on to become huge stars in movies and television and even bigger comics. Yet their SNL tenures often showed them at their best, with some standing taller than others. It's hard to figure it out, but here's how the 25 funniest SNL cast members of all time fall out as a stunning reminder of the show's legacy.

You know you loved to watch. Because there is no way that Baywatch was able to become the most-watched television show in the world during its decade-long, slow-motion run from 1989 to ’99 without a lot of people tuning in. Even if they didn’t want to admit it. “At least two people have come up to me and told me, ‘I learned CPR from watching Baywatch and I saved a life,'” says Jeremy Jackson, one of the countless actors looking back at their part in the global phenomenon in After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, a fabulous, startlingly honest four-part Hulu docuseries from ABC News and filmmaker Matthew Felker. From its origins a spec script aimed at capitalizing on the surge of interest in California’s surf culture to the casting of David Hasselhoff and its ill-fated single season on NBC to a record-breaking popularity that spawned countless imitators, a big-screen adaptation and countless gags,...

Many former stars showed up to discuss the series, its legacy, and how it affected their careers and lives. However, Pamela Anderson refused to take part in the series.
Here is what we know about the new Baywatch documentary and why Pamela Anderson chose not to contribute.

‘General Hospital’ (Gh) spoilers reveal that, sadly, Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) days in Port Charles appear to be numbered. The powers that be decided to let Monaco go from her role.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: It’s Gh’s Loss, Not Kelly’s
To add insult to injury, Sam is set to be killed off sometime this fall. We can only imagine this is the embarrassingly obvious way the show will reunite Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu Spencer (last played by Emme Rylan).
We aren’t sure it’s even worth it to Dante and Lulu fans since Lulu will be a recast, and we don’t even know if Dante and nuLulu will have the kind of chemistry that justifies killing off a beloved heroine like Sam.

Columbia Pictures is hoping to squeeze out a new Anaconda movie for the 2020s.
Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star in a reimagining of the 1997 horror movie that launched a mini-franchise.
Tom Gormican, who directed the Nicolas Cage meta movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is co-writing with collaborator Kevin Etten and will direct the feature.
The original movie starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight, and followed a National Geographic film crew who is hunting for the world’s largest and deadliest snake, only to find the tables turned.
According to sources, the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.
It’s unclear who is playing whom.

The latest Marvel blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine, has become one of the highest grossing R-rated movies of all time, surpassing $1 billion at the box office. The movie serves as a finale to the long-running X-Men franchise, which was originally started in 2000 at 20th Century Fox. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine team up for one last ride to save the multiverse.
In the film, multiple actors who portrayed Marvel characters pre-mcu returned to play their iconic roles, presumably for the last time. Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Chris Evans’ Human Torch all made appearances.
Unfortunately, some fans felt let down. Most likely, due to budgetary reasons, they could only have a certain number of Marvel alumni in the film. Many were hoping for some out-there returns like Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider, Thomas Jane as Punisher, Eric Bana as Hulk, Matt Salinger as Captain America,...

One of the most talked about things in the latest Marvel movie was the number of returning characters. Deadpool & Wolverine not only saw Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman return to their iconic characters but also characters like Chris Evans as Human Torch, Wesley Snipes as Blade, and Jennifer Garner as Electra.
Others are talking about those they wish had appeared in the film: Halle Berry’s Storm, David Hasselhoff’s Nick Fury, Thomas Jane’s Punisher, etc. But there was one cameo that many had hoped for that actually almost happened.
In the beginning of the movie, Deadpool visits Earth 616, the main timeline for the MCU. There, he meets with Happy Hogan, once again played by Jon Favreau, as he attempts to join the Avengers. But it was recently revealed that at least one other legacy MCU character was meant to appear, and it was a big one.

We begin with Pamela Anderson’s infamous, overly sexualized role in Barb Wire, a film as forgettable as Anderson’s performance.

A typical episode of “SpongeBob SquarePants” runs 11 minutes. Now, for those who can’t get enough of that Laffy Taffy-yellow fellow with the googly eyes and giggly laugh, a feature-length outing must already sound like 10 times the fun. Toss in the hook that a mad scientist wants to clone all the sea creatures from his corner of the ocean, and you’ve potentially got more SpongeBob than even the most insatiable sponge-head can handle.
Dropping exclusively on Netflix, “Saving Bikini Bottom: A Sandy Cheeks Movie” shifts the focus ever so slightly away from our porous … er, eponymous hero. My relationship to SpongeBob, Sandy Cheeks and the other denizens of Bikini Bottom is a long one filled with fond memories. I remember watching the series’ pilot episode the very first time it aired on Nickelodeon, and seeing The SpongeBob SquarepPants Movie in theaters its first week of release. A land dwelling, oxygen breathing squirrel isn’t exactly a character you’d expect to find in a series set at the bottom of the ocean, but Sandy has been a prominent element of the franchise since the early days of its first season. It only seems fair that after more than two decades she’s given the reigns to her very own feature-length film, but perhaps we’ve waited too long. This one should have stayed at the bottom of the ocean.

Every year seems to have its defining comedy event. In this decade, we had Bo Burnham’s Inside in 2021, Jerrod Carmichael’s Rothanial in 2022 and John Mulaney’s Baby J in 2023.
2024 is barely past the halfway mark, but it’s clear that we’ve already experienced the comic entry that’s going to leave the biggest footprint on the year: The Roast of Tom Brady. The Netflix special likely won’t be responsible for 2024’s most clever comedy, sharpest social commentary or most transcendent performances. But there are at least three reasons why The Roast of Tom Brady is the most important comedy we’ll see all year…

The studio says Black Bag opens in theaters on March 14, 2024. Focus will release the film in the US, and Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution.
Black Bag is a high-stakes mystery starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, as well as Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke, and Pierce Brosnan. Steven Soderbergh directs Black Bag from a script by David Koepp. Soderbergh and Blanchett previously worked together on his 2006 noir thriller The Good German. On July 17, 1999, a little animated show created by an animator and marine biology educator debuted, and it changed Nickelodeon, TV animation, and pop culture forever. "SpongeBob SquarePants," which follows its titular sentient sea sponge living in the underwater city known as Bikini Bottom and working as a fry cook at a popular burger joint, quickly took the world by storm. It overtook "Pokémon" as the highest-rated children's show on television (at the height of Pokémania), and it reinvented Nickelodeon, solidifying the network as the home of the biggest all-ages animated TV shows.
A big part of the show's success is its visual storytelling. The episodes are full of visual gags and an eye for physical comedy that's reminiscent of Golden Age of Animation cartoons like "Merrie Melodies," there's a wealth of sharp scripts with smart jokes, and the show has a terrific ensemble cast of memorable characters and enough background...

The day some landlubber drops their iPhone in the ocean for it to float down to Bikini Bottom will be a darker one than when the Hash-Slinging Slasher came to town.
SpongeBob SquarePants turned 25 years old this past May. During his quarter-century at the forefront of Nickelodeon programming, Tom Kenny’s beloved, boxy and endlessly upbeat fry cook has remained largely unchanged, with the exception of a brief animation “glow-up” that left the redesigned hero looking a little too much like a SpongeBob plush doll than SpongeBob himself.
Though most of the fans who fell in love with SpongeBob SquarePants during its first few seasons on television probably aren’t religiously keeping up with the show through the modern day — much like how we don’t eat Totino’s Pizza Rolls as often or own as many Tech Deks as we did back then — the Og fans will be relieved...

The original Baywatch went off the air 25 years ago, yet it still processes a cultural ubiquity that eclipses arguably every other defunct TV series.
There was a brief spinoff and a panned movie (more of a spoof than a theatrical remake) and, just recently talk of a reboot. But no ancillary project has ever had the sway of the original: an infinitely exportable ode to a Southern California that never really existed, with its frequently recycled cast of hard-bodied Caucasians. So, at long last, it’s getting a documentary.
With participation from a great many former castmembers, including franchise face Pamela Anderson, After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun arrives Aug. 28 on Hulu. Many of them, including Traci Bingham and Erika Eleniak but not Anderson, appeared Wednesday afternoon in Pasadena to plug the project for TV press.

Matthew Felker (“Public Figure”) is the producer and director behind the project, which began production in 2019 as “Baywatch: The Documentary” before evolving into “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” and landing ABC News Studios as the series’ production company.
Per the longline, the docuseries promises “a nostalgic and insightful exploration of ‘Baywatch,’ the cultural phenomenon that defined an era, and an unprecedented look into the stars who brought the world’s most famous lifeguards to life. Through dozens of new cast interviews and never-before-seen footage, this docuseries unpacks how the show captured the mythology of California’s beach culture, set physical beauty standards for an entire generation,...

America’s Got Talent hasn’t changed much over the past few years. Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel have been the stable judges for a long time. Only in the fantasy season was there a change, and Sofia returned for the next regular show’s season.
One of the judges recently talked about working on the show and said they don’t plan to leave until they die.
Howie Mandel Plans To Stay On America’s Got Talent From Now On
Howie Mandel has been a judge on America’s Got Talent since 2010. He joined the show in Season 5 and is now the longest-reigning judge on the show and has worked it longer than anyone else in the American version’s history. The teenage daughter of actress Angie Harmon was arrested days after her high school graduation. Avery Sehorn, who is also the daughter of retired NFL cornerback Jason Sehorn, allegedly broke into the World Night Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The club owner reported that Sehorn and two 17-year-old boys entered the club through a back door and took $500 worth of alcohol. Avery, 18, was arrested on felony burglary and larceny charges. Her mugshot was taken and released by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department.
Avery was arrested on June 6, only four days after her high school graduation on June 2. Harmon previously shared a photo to her Instagram to celebrate the milestone. Avery is said to attend the University of Alabama in the fall, but it is still unclear if her arrest will affect her admission.
Harmon also shares daughters Finley and Emery with Jason. The couple was married from 2001 to 2014, divorcing after 13 years of marriage.

Kevin Brophy, who starred as a young man raised by wolves on the short-lived ABC series Lucan and as the doomed leader of a college fraternity in the cult horror film Hell Night, has died. He was 70.
Brophy died May 11 at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, his family announced. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 10 years ago, they said.
On 1977-78’s Lucan, his first professional acting job, Brophy portrayed a 20-year-old man who spent the first 10 years of his life with wolves in the forests of Minnesota before he’s brought into society.
His character possessed wolf-like superpowers like strength, agility and heightened senses of smell and hearing, and when angry, his eyes glowed amber.
When he got the part, Brophy asked himself, “What does a boy raised by wolves do?” he recalled in December in an interview for the Happy Horror Time podcast. “I came to...

Find a place to display your beaver prominently and order some Titan condoms from Amazon because Pamela Anderson is joining Liam Neeson for The Naked Gun reboot. While today’s Deadline article fails to mention who Anderson is playing, we assume she’ll play the romantic lead opposite Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr. Lisa Marie Presley played the love interest of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin in the original comedy film, resulting in some unforgettable and hilarious moments and sight gags.
After filming 110 episodes of the jiggly action TV series Baywatch, Pamela Anderson is no stranger to comedy. In addition to running in slow motion alongside David Hasselhoff, Yasmine Bleeth, Jeremy Jackson, and more, Anderson starred in Scary Movie 3 and Superhero Movie. The Naked Gun reboot carries a lot of pressure from fans of the Leslie Nielsen-led trilogy, but I’ve got a great feeling about this inspired casting choice.
