Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Luiz H.C. grabs a handful of silver bullets as he revisits six iconic werewolf deaths in horror history.
Personally, I’ve always found monster movies to be more thrilling when they give the protagonists a fighting chance. This tiny sliver of narrative hope usually comes in the form of a specific weakness that can be exploited in order to defeat whatever creature happens to be attacking, with one of the most famous examples being werewolves’ “allergic reaction” towards silver – with even young children being aware of this fatal weakness.
However, there’s more than one way to skin a cat (or a lycanthrope), and in honor of Steven C. Miller’s upcoming Werewolves, which depicts a world where a Supermoon event has turned millions of people into monsters,...

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) showcases the more sentimental side of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. Neon has officially set a release date for the new King adaptation.
The Life of Chuck will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025.
TIFF’s People’s Choice Award winner is split in three separate acts, all linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse. “It’s a Stand By Me for the multiple lives within each of us, pulled between our dreams and down-to-earth pragmatism.” Tom Hiddleston plays the title character.
I wrote in my TIFF review, “It’s the little things that matter most, both in life and in The Life of Chuck. Flanagan finds inventive and stylish ways to remind us of this throughout, shaking loose deep-seated memories from Chuck’s upbringing and highlighting...

The Life Of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Mike Flanagan, is confirmed for a 2025 release.
Coming out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be an awards contender. Not only is this year’s race for Best Picture said to be one of the most open we’ve had for years, but The Life Of Chuck would win TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, historically a strong indicator that a film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Twelve of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.
The film’s US distributor Neon, however, has instead elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot according to Deadline. Not only does that preclude the film...

Early in the new Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, we meet our young hero, Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers). He is in a bedroom that looks an awful lot like one you might have found in any suburban house here on Earth in the Eighties, and he’s playing with a pair of dolls that are roughly the size and design of the action figures that Kenner released around the original Star Wars film trilogy. Wim and his best friend Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) have mock lightsaber battles while waiting for the bus to school.

There have been a lot of creepy kids in the history of horror, but the murdered hallway twins and young psychic Danny Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" are easily among the best. The twins were played by Lisa and Louise Burns, who were 12 years old at the time of filming, while Danny was played by six-year-old Danny Lloyd. Since "The Shining," based on the 1977 Stephen King novel of the same name, has become one of the most famous horror films of all time, both the twins and Danny have become horror legends, but what about the child actors who played them?
The Burns twins didn't end up having much of a career in acting, though Louise did apply to London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and was turned away because her role in "The Shining" made her a professional and thus technically overqualified. She became a scientist, while her sister became a lawyer,...

The second remake of Fw Murnau’s unofficial Dracula adaptation is handsomely shot and stylised, with a forbiddingly gruesome monster, but walks the line between self-conscious and scary
Here is Robert Eggers’s avowed passion project as writer-director: a luxury-arthouse remake on a grand scale, paying homage to Fw Murnau’s classic silent film from 1922, the German expressionist nightmare of Count Orlok, or Nosferatu, the “evil one”, a pallid vampire living in the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains. Eggers’s film can’t quite bear to say the comedy word “Transylvania” out loud, though we get to glimpse it on a map. It is an interesting new Nosferatu for our age of pandemic fear, with some beautiful images and striking moments, particularly in the eerie moonlit hallucination sequence at the beginning, which makes the rest of the story feel slightly literal and self-conscious.

Flanagan’s fantasy drama, starring Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Harvey Guillén, and more, comes to theaters on May 30, 2025. Variety posted a description for The Life of Chuck in September, saying, “Adapted from Stephen King’s 2020 novella, The Life of Chuck stars Tom Hiddleston and is directed by Mike Flanagan. Billed as a ‘life-affirming’ story about an ordinary man named Charles Krantz, the film is split into three distinct chapters that unfurl in reverse chronological order and are set against the backdrop of a world that appears to be slowly crumbling.

The upcoming TV series It: Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), was originally meant to be for the Max streaming service, but we recently learned that it will be airing on HBO as well. The show went into production in Port Hope, Ontario at the end of last year, aiming for a 2025 premiere, and wrapped in August after 237 shooting days. Bill Skarsgard came back to reprise the role of Pennywise, the evil clown – and during an interview with SFX magazine, Skarsgard discussed what it was like to play Pennywise again, hyping up the show a bit without revealing anything.

Art the Clown. He’s a homicidal maniac. He’s a supernatural being. He’s disgusting. He’s amusing. He’s the latest cinematic madman to be added to the ranks of genre icons. And he’s been around longer than you might realize. He’s been lurking around for a couple of decades. His breakthrough moment came with the 2016 movie Terrifier – and we’re going to examine that film… and the bad clown at the heart of it all… with this episode of What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Writer/director Damien Leone first brought Art the Clown into the world with a short film called The 9th Circle, which was shot in 2006.The story centers on a young woman who’s creeped out by a strange clown in a train station. The clown ends up attacking her, delivering her to a coven of witches that are in direct contact with Satan himself.

Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) was more than just a horror film; it was a cinematic primal scream that reverberated across post-Vietnam America’s culture. Hooper’s film, released amid a decade when mid-century America’s glossy optimism had given way to disillusionment, depicted a world that felt literally slaughtered.
A new kind of horror was born due to the movie’s dirty atmosphere and unrelenting tension; it didn’t rely on supernatural specters or gothic castles but rather on the terrifyingly banal. Its villains were not Dracula or Frankenstein’s monster, but rather a family of blue-collar sadists who lived in the decaying carcass of the American Dream. Fifty years later, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is still a genre-defining classic and a frightening reminder of the cultural decay it depicts.
It’s appropriate, then, that Alexandre O. Philippe’s Chain Reactions (2024) isn’t concerned with...

Fans of the terrifying clown Pennywise will soon discover new depths to his spooky lore. Bill Skarsgård, who brings the iconic character to life, shared in a recent interview with SFX magazine that the forthcoming Max series ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ will unveil aspects of the character never seen in the movies.
The interview comes as part of a feature that also spotlights the Doctor Who Christmas special ‘Joy to the World.’
‘It: Welcome to Derry’ sets its scene in 1962, exactly 27 years prior to the first movie’s events, diving into a spine-chilling narrative that promises to flesh out Pennywise’s sci-fi-tinged origins.
With a release now expected in 2025, the show plans to bring nine initial episodes that expand on Stephen King’s universe, previously shaped by director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti.

In September 2018, journalist and bestselling author Otegha Uwagba tweeted, “Men should be glad women want equality and not revenge.” Espoused in response to the #MeToo Movement, her statement reflects justifiable rage for a world that seems intent on taking away female rights and treating women as less than human. Shortly before this collective culmination of fourth-wave feminism, Stephen King explored the concept in his 2017 novel Sleeping Beauties. Written with his son and fellow novelist Owen King, the sprawling story imagines a world without women and places the future of patriarchy entirely in the hands of a small group of female survivors.

One neat thing about the original "Frasier" series was that it had some major guest stars we never actually got to see. In fact, it had a ton of major guest stars we never got to see. Dr. Crane's Kacl talk radio show provided the perfect opportunity to land some of the greatest guests in TV history without having to worry about getting the celebrities into the studio — although Linda Hamilton actually doubled up as a caller and an in-person guest on "Frasier." Everyone from Christopher Reeve to Carrie Fisher called the good doctor for advice over the course of the show's 11 seasons, and it wasn't just actors.
"Frasier" also played host to the voices of musicians Eddie Van Halen and Art Garfunkel, as well as tennis star John McEnroe. While the show never struggled to get big-name actors in the flesh, these "hidden" cameos made for an undeniably cool...

Scott Hicks' 2001 supernatural drama "Hearts in Atlantis" should have been a big hit. Based on a novel by Stephen King, the movie blended the author's bent for 1950s and 1960s nostalgia with his knack for mysterious fantasy. Told in flashback, "Hearts" tells the story of a 12-year-old named Bobby (played by eventual "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin) who is largely neglected by his self-absorbed mother (Hope Davis) and who spends his idle summer days with his two best friends, Carol (Meeka Boorem) and Sully (Will Rothhaar). To make ends meet, Bobby's mom takes on a lodger named Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins) and Bobby soon learns that Ted has some kind of psychic power. He can read minds, and make objects float.
Ted explains calmly to Bobby that he has to keep the powers secret, as he is being pursued by people he calls "Low Men." Unusually, Ted's superpowers aren't the center of the film's plot,...

Stephen King has been crowned the King of Horror for a reason. The best-selling author intimately understands the vignettes of terror that have the power to induce fear and anxiety within the human mind. Banking on this expertise, King often takes to Twitter to recommend a horror title or two and highlight overlooked genre gems from time to time. Sometimes, he even tweets about movies he doesn't like, like that one time when King mentioned the only movie he ever walked out of as an adult. In a 2021 tweet of a similar flavor, King name-dropped the worst horror movie he has ever seen:
"What is the worst horror movie you ever saw? For me, Blood Feast."
The characteristically blunt nature of King's statement might feel a bit too scathing at first, but "Blood Feast" undoubtedly lives up to its infamy. Not a competent horror film by any stretch of the imagination,...

And the year 2025 may be the greatest yet for HBO/Max!

It’s been 75 years since Earth Abides was first published, but the apocalyptic George R. Stewart novel is still as relevant as ever. And the new MGM+ adaptation, premiering Sunday, December 1, aims to prove it. The story has somehow never been adapted to the screen before but has been highly influential to the apocalyptic sci-fi sub-genre — most notably, it inspired Stephen King’s The Stand. Earth Abides is a multi-generational tale of the destruction of mankind in a global pandemic and the second-chance resurgence of mankind seen through the eyes of its protagonist, Ish (portrayed by Alexander Ludwig), who has to realize the hard way that the old ways of living aren’t worth bringing back. Though the adaptation is quite faithful to the novel upon which it’s based, there are some distinctions that bring the narrative into the 21st Century in some significant ways — particularly in a post-Covid society.

Jack Nicholson was the epitome of the New Hollywood movie star. He broke through via the cultural earthquake that was "Easy Rider," and quickly established himself as a guarantor of quality filmmaking thanks to his star turns in "Five Easy Pieces," "Carnal Knowledge" and "The Last Detail." As the revolutionary spirit of the New Hollywood movement faded, Nicholson found himself becoming more of a traditional leading man in more traditional films like "The Postman Always Rings Twice," "Terms of Endearment" and "Prizzi's Honor." He worked in spurts, taking breaks here and there, but he was never gone for long — which is why his 14-year absence from our screens (save for the occasional Los Angeles Lakers game appearance) feels so notable. And sad.
While we let Nicholson enjoy his retirement, we've no shortage of classics, near-classics, and assorted oddities to remind us how great he could be when he was at...

David Jonsson, the fast-rising British star of “Alien: Romulus,” “Rye Lane” and “Industry,” has joined Phoebe Arnstein’s short film “If You’re Happy” as executive producer.
Starring “The Crown” alumnus Erin Doherty (soon to be seen in Disney+ series “A Thousand Blows”), “If You’re Happy” follows Lotte (Doherty) as she navigates the daunting challenges and demands of early motherhood. Seeking connection, she attends a local baby group led by a bizarre teacher (Jo Hartley). Lotte is further displaced by the surreal environment and uses a childish game to vent her fury, sparking an unexpected, primal outpouring of emotions amongst the other mothers.

After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, the “all hell breaks loose” sequence from the start of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, the opening sequence of Pitch Black, a cool moment from The Crow, a memorable shark attack from Jaws 2, a creepy moment from Lost Highway, and the climactic factory chase sequence from Child’s Play 2, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a memorable moment from the 1988 Halloween classic...

Remember the 1980s? The decade of big hair, neon everything, and VHS tapes taking over the video shop. Aside from the flashy pop culture, this was also a great time for thrilling, edge-of-your-seat movies. The 1980s provided a wealth of classic 80s thrillers that redefined what it meant to feel suspenseful rather than just keeping viewers wondering. From dark crime dramas to mind-bending 1980s suspense movies that made your heart race, this era became the best place for directors who wanted to try new things and moviegoers who wanted to be shocked.
Why did the best 80s thriller movies come out at such a great time? The genre wasn’t just one thing but a wide range of movies. It had dark, twisty psychological thrillers that peeled back the layers of the mind (think Fatal Attraction), gritty crime sagas dripping with danger, and every once in a while, a heart-pounding story inspired by true events.

Just in time for the holidays, Cineverse has revealed plans for a “Terrifier 3” making-of documentary that will bring fans behind the scenes of the hit indie slasher. Titled “Art Attack! The Dissection of Terrifier 3,” the film will debut exclusively on the company’s streaming platform Screambox in early 2025.
“Art Attack!” is billed as a full dive into how the “Terrifier 3” team brought various brutal kills and bloody effects to life in the latest slasher entry. The documentary features interviews with director Damien Leone, producer Phil Falcone and various cast members, along with new footage from the set of the production.
The making-of documentary comes from Cult Screenings UK, the producers behind Screambox’s “Pennywise: The Story of It,” which explored the development, Tim Curry casting and cult legacy of the 1990 Stephen King miniseries adaptation “It.” Cult Screenings’ other credits include “RoboDoc,” on the creation of Paul Verhoeven’s action satire classic “RoboCop,...

In a 2006 issue of The Paris Review, Stephen King was asked about his choice to write his 1981 novel "Cujo" without any chapter breaks. Whereas most books use those chapter breaks to give the reader a chance to breathe, King's dog-focused horror book refuses to let up, creating an experience where it's very, very easy for readers to fly through hundreds of pages in a single sitting. Although King originally intended for the book to have regular chapter breaks, he explained why he changed his mind:
"I can remember thinking that I wanted the book to feel like a brick that was heaved through your window at you. I've always thought that the sort of book that I do — and I've got enough ego to think that every novelist should do this — should be a kind of personal assault. It ought to be somebody lunging right across the table and grabbing you and messing you up.

There are only a few days left in November, and we all know what that means. Netflix is about to lose some good movies! If you're looking for what to watch on Netflix, this is the list for you.
With the month winding down, we picked the three best movies leaving Netflix in November 2024. We highly recommend watching these movies before they leave in a few days.
At the end of every month, Netflix usually loses the streaming rights to at least a handful of licensed movies. Some of these movies are the most popular movies on Netflix, but more often than not, it's older films.
Let's get the list started with Two Weeks Notice -- which you don't have to watch these movies; it's more like five days notice -- starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant!

Do you look like Twisters and Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell? Are your parents aspiring actors? Well, you could kill two birds with one stone by winning Austin’s Glen Powell lookalike contest, where the actor says whoever takes home the prize could see their parents or a family member cameo in one of his movies. I’m just learning this, but Powell’s parents “frequently show up” in his films, and he wants someone else to have the same experience. I’m not kidding.
Glen Powell couldn’t attend a Glen Powell lookalike contest in Austin, Texas, because he was busy filming Edgar Wright’s version of Stephen King’s The Running Man. Still, his mother and aunt helped judge the competition. How adorable is that? According to Fox 7 Austin, a physician’s assistant, Maxwell Braunstein, won the top prize. Want to know what he won? I hope you’re sitting down.

One of the go-to scary stories is the haunted house tale; it's as easy to tell one sitting around a campfire as it is to make a horror picture out of one. One recent haunted house story that may have slipped under your radar — but shouldn't have — is the 2021 comic mini-series "The Me You Love In The Dark."
Artist Ro Meadows has a showcase deadline approaching. So, she rents an old house in the midwest, thinking she needs some isolation to create. Her real estate agent warns her that her chosen house is rumored to be haunted, but Ro feels too drawn in to pass it up. As she still struggles to paint, she learns the house wasn't empty even before she moved in.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly's 2005 romantic comedy "Fever Pitch," based on the Nick Hornby novel, was about the relationship travails of a level-headed businesswoman named Lindsey (Drew Barrymore) as she attempted to date a funny and charming schoolteacher named Ben (Jimmy Fallon). Ben admits early in their courtship that he is a fan of the Boston Red Sox. Nay, not just a fan, but an embarrassingly devoted superfan who attends all their games. Lindsey doesn't know much about baseball, and she has to accept that, if she wants to keep seeing Ben, she'll have to attend many, many baseball games with him. She'll also have to follow his emotional ups and downs as his favorite team wins or loses.
Curiously, Hornby's original book wasn't about a baseball team, but Arsenal, an English football club. The title "Fever Pitch" makes more sense with baseball.
"Fever Pitch" was fine, and nothing more.

It seems some of the animosity between Denzel Washington and Josh Brolin’s characters in American Gangster momentarily bled out off-screen in a heated exchange during filming.
In a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, Brolin — who was promoting his new memoir From Under the Truck — reflected on his career and upbringing, including what he described as a fleeting moment where he and his co-star nearly came to blows.
“Denzel and I, by the way, get along very well now,” he prefaced the anecdote, later describing Washington as someone he is “in awe of.” “We almost got into a fight.”
He continued, “Denzel was a little late to set and there was a whole thing there. And then he showed me the lines — he didn’t change any of my lines, but he kind of changed the structure of it. He said, ‘I think I’m gonna put this down here...

There have been a lot of movies and TV shows based on the works of author Stephen King, but there are also still a good number of King stories that have slipped through the cracks and never received an adaptation. For example, the short story The Monkey has been around for over forty years, but it’s only just now getting the big screen treatment, with Neon planning to give a film based on The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. With that date just a few months away, we figured this would be a good time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Monkey.
Story
King’s short story was first published in 1980, in the pages of the adult magazine Gallery, giving subscribers something to read amidst the pictures of nude women. The story was later revised and included in King’s 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew.

There's nothing like getting hooked on a show you've only just discovered that has a backlog of seasons to make your way through ... and if you've just seen the latest announcement made by MGM+ (which was previously known as Epix prior to its rebranding), you probably know all too well where we're coming from. We know what all you newcomers to the series are thinking: "Fourth? I didn't even know there was a first." Well, there is, and it's been kicking around on MGM+ since 2022. Holiday dinners can be minefields. Your pretentious cousin won’t stop talking about her year abroad, your mom keeps asking when you plan to have kids, and your drunk uncle just spilled red wine all over the green bean casserole. Sometimes the tricks don’t end with Halloween and even the best sweet potato casserole can’t make up for the stress of listening to your dad go on yet another political rant.
But Constant Readers may rest assured that no matter what horrors may lie under your granny’s covered casserole dish, they won’t be as bad as the terrible families lurking in Stephen King’s Dominion. From the Cunninghams to the Hartsfields, the master of horror seems to delight in showing us the dark secrets that lie within every hearth and home.

A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.
According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.
Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.
Hollywood has been quick to adopt Bluesky, particularly with the entertainment industry’s aversion to the political views of Musk,...

Master of horror Stephen King returns with another horror novel in the first half of 2025. Entertainment Weekly exclusively shared a first look at the upcoming book, titled Never Flinch, along with an excerpt that will give prospective readers an idea of what to expect.
Never Flinch has several "intertwining storylines," including one that revolves around a popular character who has appeared in several of King's novels, Holly Gibney. Holly first appeared in King's Mr. Mercedes trilogy, followed by The Outsider, and eventually got her own book titled Holly.
Per the outlet, Never Flinch centers on the Buckeye City Police Department after they receive an ominous letter from someone who wants to murder 14 people, all in "atonement for the needless death of an innocent man." Detective Izzy Jaynes is forced to turn to Holly Gibney for assistance.
The second narrative follows a women's rights activist targeted by an angry stalker who opposes her empowering message.

Stephen King‘s “Constant Readers” have read about the character Holly Gibney in the pages of his Bill Hodges trilogy, the novel The Outsider, the If It Bleeds short story from the collection of the same name, and his crime novel Holly. Now, Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Holly is also at the heart of his next novel, Never Flinch, which is set to reach store shelves on May 27, 2025.
A couple of years ago, King told The Kingcast hosts Eric Vespe and Scott Wampler, “I could never let Holly Gibney go from the Mr. Mercedes books. I mean, she was supposed to be a walk-on character and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart.” Obviously, Holly still has his heart. He had mentioned last year that he was working on another Holly Gibney book, but at that time he was calling it We Think Not. He...

Exclusive: David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and newcomer Samantha Cochran will topline The Cure, a horror thriller from director Nancy Leopardi that has wrapped production in Los Angeles.
Written by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, who penned Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane, the film centers on Cochran’s Ally Braun, an adopted 16-year-old with a mysterious illness who learns her bio-tech billionaire parents (Dastmalchian and Greene) are harvesting her blood for nefarious purposes.
In a statement to Deadline, Leopardi called the film “a satirical take on the modern billionaire class cloaked in a crowd-pleasing thriller,” adding, “The Cure is made in the tradition of classic horror and sci-fi films that are inspired by terrifying socio-political realities and advances in bio-technology. Like Ex-Machina, A.I., and Videodrome I believe we are on the cusp of a revolution in science and the big question is – who will benefit?”
