Samuel L. Jackson wants to dispel a myth about the Academy Awards — namely the humility of creatives who say they are honored just by the reception of a nod.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press promoting Netflix’s August Wilson adaptation The Piano Lesson, the MCU actor joked that he’s been in the business long enough to de-center the Oscars race, and any potential buzz or hype about a project or role, from his work.
“Folks will go, ‘Well it’s just an honor to be nominated.’ No it ain’t,” Jackson said, eliciting chuckles from co-star Michael Potts and the interviewer off-screen. “It’s an honor to win.”
He continued, “You get nominated, folks will go, ‘Yeah yeah, I remember that’ or most people forget.”
Ironically enough, Jackson was bestowed an honorary Oscar by longtime friend Denzel Washington at the 2022 Governors Awards. He has also been...

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's 2019 Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Captain Marvel" was, kind of by necessity, a prequel. The sci-fi actioner was released on the heels of "Avengers: Infinity War," a film that had wiped out half of the MCU and set the stage for the Infinity Saga's climax with "Avengers: Endgame," a movie that would come out after "Captain Marvel." As such, it was an appropriate moment to go back in time.
"Captain Marvel" follows the titular hero (Brie Larson), a super-powered human with a fractured memory who's been trained to function as a high-octane agent of the imperialistic Kree Empire on Hala, a distant planet and the Kree's capital world. The machinations of the plot eventually bring her to Earth in 1995. There, she learns about her human past after joining forces with Nick Fury, then only a lower-ranked employee of S.H.I.E.L.D. played...

For Malcolm Washington, an appreciation for August Wilson plays runs in the family. Several years ago, his father Denzel committed to producing film adaptations of Wilson’s Century Cycle plays — a collection of 10 works, each covering one decade of the Black experience in 20th-century America. Denzel started with the Oscar-nominated Fences, which he also directed and starred in, and followed that with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which won Chadwick Boseman a posthumous Best Actor Oscar nomination. In 2022, Malcolm’s brother, the actor John David Washington, starred in a Broadway revival of The Piano Lesson.

Saturday Night Live’s upcoming 50th anniversary special will no doubt bring back a number of past characters, as long as they weren’t played by Joe Piscopo or Jim Breuer, we assume. The show doesn’t air until February, but SNL’s nostalgia-fest has already begun. Yes, two beloved cast members just revived two beloved SNL characters — but it was all in the service of promoting a credit card company.

Hold on to your butts, Samuel L. Jackson is coming after awards season cordiality.
The veteran actor of stage and screen, most recently seen in the Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson,” was blunt in his assessment of the weight awards hold in the span of a career, specifically the Oscar, joking in a recent interview with the Associated Press that people tend to take it all too seriously

Spider-Man: Far From Home had one of the most shocking endings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! How did it unfold to lead to other big projects?
As this 2019 movie begins, the MCU is still getting used to “The Blip,” the five-year period between when Thanos “snapped” half the universe into dust in Avengers: Infinity War, and when everyone was restored in Endgame. That means Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his various “blipped classmates” are all still in high school again.
Peter is still mourning Tony Stark as he takes part in a class trip to Europe. Nick Fury then recruits him to aid Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who claims to be a hero from an alternate Earth fighting massive Elemental creatures who destroyed his Earth’s heroes and are now targeting the McU's Earth.
Peter and Mysterio get along well, and Peter also reveals his identity as Spider-Man to Mj (Zendaya). Eventually,...

When Martin Landau was announced as the winner of Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Ed Wood, fellow nominee Samuel L Jackson can be visibly seen mouthing a word that normally wouldn’t get by on national television And he meant it! After all, winning an Academy Award is just about the highest honor an actor can receive. Being nominated? Who needs that?
With great vengeance and furious anger, Samuel L Jackson called out anyone who says that being nominated for an Oscar is an award in and of itself. “We’ve been in the business long enough to know that, you know, the folks who go, ‘Well, it’s just an honor to be nominated.’ No it ain’t – it’s an honor to win!” He added, “You know, you get nominated, folks go, ‘Yeah, yeah, I remember that. Samuel L. Jackson, the iconic actor known for his prolific career in Hollywood, has shared his candid perspective on awards season, calling out the oft-repeated notion that “it’s just an honor to be nominated.”

Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson has disputed the entertainment industry’s traditional attitude toward award nominations, claiming that being acknowledged is less important than winning.
In an honest interview with the Associated Press, Jackson dismissed the typical phrase, “It’s an honor just to be nominated.” Instead, he emphasized that true recognition comes only through winning.
“We’ve been in the business long enough to understand when people say, ‘It’s just an honor to be nominated.'” No, it’s not. “It’s an honor to win,” Jackson stated, showing his forthright attitude toward business honors.
Regardless of his legendary status, Jackson’s Oscar history demonstrates his point. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his “Pulp Fiction” performance in 1994. He earned an honorary Academy Award in 2021, which he believed accurately represented his vast career.

Over two seasons on the Marvel Studios series “Loki,” Tom Hiddleston’s god of mischief learns to forsake his past as Marvel villain and become the hero we all knew he could be. But his past transgressions are never far from his memory.
In a deleted scene from Season 2 of the show — part of an impending 4K Uhd Blu-ray release — Loki recalls just how many people “said I was a problem” while talking with his friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) over slices of key lime pie.

In a deleted scene from Season 2 of the show — part of an impending 4K Uhd Blu-ray release — Loki recalls just how many people “said I was a problem” while talking with his friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) over slices of key lime pie.
Loki names Thor’s compatriots on Asgard — Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogan (Tadanobu Asano) and Fandral (Josh Dallas and Zachary Levi) — as well as Laufey (Colm Feore), king of the Frost Giants and Loki’s biological father, and Bor (Tony Curran), father of Odin and Loki’s adoptive grandfather. Netflix has released a powerful new screen adaptation of August Wilson’s classic play “The Piano Lesson,” which marks Malcolm Washington’s first feature film as director. The film, which debuted at the Telluride Film Festival, examines deep family history and generational suffering through the lens of a single, meaningful musical instrument.
Set in 1936 Pittsburgh, the film depicts the Charles family’s fierce struggle over an ancestral piano carved with pictures of their enslaved forefathers. The center of the story is Boy Willie (John David Washington), who travels from Mississippi to persuade his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) to sell the family’s prized piano—a symbolic object with a difficult history of survival and resistance.
The production represents a substantial Washington family collaboration. Denzel Washington acts as executive producer, with his sons Malcolm directing and John David starring. This is Denzel Washington’s third adaptation of Wilson’s work, following...

It’s been a big weekend for the Washington family.
While patriarch Denzel Washington chewed the scenery on multiplex screens in “Gladiator II,” the next generation of Washingtons stormed onto streaming with the film adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize winner “The Piano Lesson.” With the Netflix film, Denzel and Pauletta Washington’s kids — director Malcolm, actor John David and producer Katia — add to both their family mythos and Wilson’s legacy.
“We’re standing on the shoulders of the Wilsonians,” John David Washington told Variety at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Nov. 19, listing artists who’ve appeared in Wilson’s works on stage and screen, including his father, Viola Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Latanya Richardson Jackson, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Charles Dutton.
“They showed us how to do it,” he said. “Hopefully the younger generation will be inspired by what’s possible with these words.”

Danielle Deadwyler almost reached the Oscar circle in 2023 with her extraordinary performance as a grieving mother in “Till.” But it was one of those tough-sit dramas that just wasn’t seen by enough people. This time, Netflix is behind her next likely awards contender, “The Piano Lesson”. The film is the third Denzel Washington-produced August Wilson adaptation after “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” — and arguably the best so far.
Directed by Malcolm Washington in his debut, the movie is set in Pittsburgh (per usual) and co-stars John David Washington as the brother who urgently tries to persuade his sister Berniece (Deadwyler) to sell their family inheritance, a giant piano engraved with the faces of their ancestors, and Samuel L. Jackson as their bemused uncle, watching and commenting on the proceedings.

As the story opens, Berniece’s brother Boy Willie (John David Washington) and his friend Lymon (Ray Fisher) have arrived at the Charles House from Mississippi, looking to sell a truckload of watermelons they’ve brought from their home state. “The Piano Lesson” is a Netflix movie starring Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Danielle Deadwyler. It is directed by Malcolm Washington.
Outstanding actors bring to life a compelling story centered around a piano—a piano that holds the history of a family, a murder, and the numerous specters that shape the present. “The Piano Lesson” is, above all, a brilliant script based on a captivating narrative filled with intriguing characters and an unresolved mystery. The film shines in two particular areas: the superb work of Mike Gioulakis, who is responsible for the cinematography, and the exceptional performances of the cast, who breathe life into this extraordinary tale. This enigmatic film is enhanced by its actors, especially Danielle Deadwyler, whose performance brings the story to life.
Plot
Boy Willie returns to the family home to reunite with his sister Berniece and sell a family piano in order to purchase some land.

Christopher Nolan may be stacking the deck with the cast of his mysterious next film right now, but he's not the only major filmmaker out there aligning stars for a secrecy shrouded project. Five years after his last directorial effort, Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams is preparing to get back in the saddle with an original new offering. And now, having already snapped up Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Emma Mackey to lead his latest, it looks like the Super 8 director has found the next big name for the call sheet — Samuel L. Jackson.
Per Deadline's reporting, Jackson — a man who, like J.J., has spent more than a little time himself in the Star Wars universe — is in negotiations to join the cast for Abrams' next film, an as-yet-untitled Warner Bros. and Bad Robot co-production. At this stage, we know next to nothing...

JJ Abrams is recruiting quite the cast for his return to directing, with Samuel L Jackson added to his mystery movie.
There are a lot of reasons to look forward to JJ Abrams’ next project, which is being set up at Warner Bros.
Firstly, a report back in August said it has vibes of The Last Starfighter, a film which has long deserved a remake or revisit of some kind. Rights issues and other problems have long made that wish rather fanciful so a project that channels some of the 1984 film’s spirit, tone and ideas will be welcome instead.
Then there’s the return of Abrams, a filmmaker who hasn’t directed a film since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. The cold reception to that film has left many speculating that he may well be in director jail, although it hardly seems fair to blame the clear...

What Record Did George Clooney Make With The Help Of His Tequila Brand? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Hollywood icon? Nailed it. Political activist? Oh, for sure. Tequila legend? George Clooney didn’t just dabble in the tequila biz—he straight-up owned it. In 2017, Clooney, with his friends, sold Casamigos, their tequila brand, to Diageo for a jaw-dropping $1 billion. And guess what? Clooney became 2018’s highest-paid actor without even stepping in front of a camera.
The craziest part? Casamigos wasn’t even planned. It all started with Clooney and his best friend Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s husband) kicking back at their Mexico vacation homes. After suffering through overpriced and downright terrible tequila, Clooney hit Gerber with the ultimate challenge: “Why don’t we just make our own?” And just like that, tequila history was in the making.

Christian Wilkins on Eva Mendes Rumor (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Samuel L. Jackson As Nick Fury (Photo Credit – Hotstar)
So, Samuel L. Jackson was always meant to be Nick Fury, right? Well, guess what? It’s not as straightforward as you might think. The wild truth behind how Jackson scored the role goes back to the early 2000s when Marvel decided to give their classic Nick Fury a complete makeover. Enter Ultimate Nick Fury, a new, badass version of the character who just so happened to look exactly like Samuel L. Jackson. That wasn’t a coincidence—writer Mark Millar loved Jackson so much that he made the character’s design based on him.

Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to join the cast of J.J. Abrams’ untitled mystery movie for Warner Bros and his Bad Robot, Deadline has confirmed.
The actor will join an ensemble that also includes Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey, as previously announced. Plot details remain under wraps, though we hear this is not a time-travel film, as some have conjectured. Abrams will direct from his own script, with Bad Robot producing.
Currently, Jackson can be seen starring opposite John David Washington in Netflix’s film The Piano Lesson, based on the August Wilson play, reprising his role after working with Washington on a stage adaptation. The film released in select theaters earlier this month and debuts on the streamer tomorrow. Upcoming, he’ll also be seen in the Western The Unholy Trinity opposite Pierce Brosnan, Renny Harlin’s actioner The Beast opposite Joel Kinnaman, action adventure pic Afterburn opposite Dave Bautista,...
The actor will join an ensemble that also includes Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey, as previously announced. Plot details remain under wraps, though we hear this is not a time-travel film, as some have conjectured. Abrams will direct from his own script, with Bad Robot producing.

Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations for a key role in J.J. Abrams’ untitled feature at Warner Bros.
If a deal makes, Jackson would be the veteran thespian amid a bevy of hot young Hollywood talent. The call sheet already includes Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Emma Mackey in what is expected to be a trifecta of leads for the project.
Abrams wrote the script for the feature, whose logline and description is being kept in the mystery box. At one point it was speculated to involve time travel, but sources say that is not the case. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.
The feature is expected to shoot in the spring in the UK.
Jackson has had a busy 2024 with appearances in several movies and series, among them Matthew Vaughn’s all-star caper Argylle and Piano Lesson, Netflix’s adaptation of the play by August Wilson directed by Malcolm Washington.

The musical instrument sitting over in the corner, idle but not gathering dust, at the center of August Wilson’s Pulitzer-winning play The Piano Lesson is more than just a piano. It’s a family heirloom, passed down several generations and proof of how their lineage endured hardship and tragedy. It’s a piece of art, carved with the faces of those who came before, all rendered with an expertise that would make Michelangelo envious. It’s a symbol of revenge, with a backstory that involves the breaking of unions,...

MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. So, we thought of compiling every project that exists in the MonsterVerse and ranking them according to their Rotten Tomatoes score, here it is.
7. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Max & Rent on Prime Video) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 42% Credit – Warner Bros.

Jackson has been Nick Fury even before his first live-action appearance as the character. As he famously recalled, the Marvel’s Nick Fury was modeled after him in its Ultimate comics. This was a huge departure from Fury’s more traditional look in the comics, which Jackson quickly took notice of.
“I still buy comic books, so I go to this store in L.A., Golden Apple, and I was in there one day and I’m passing the rack and I see this thing,...

That includes John David Washington in the role of Boy Willie Charles, Samuel L. Jackson as Doacker Charles, Michael Potts as Wining Boy Charles, and Ray Fisher as Lymon.
In the role of Boy Willie’s sister Berniece Charles — who Academy Award-nominated Danielle Brooks portrayed in the play — comes Danielle Deadwyler, known for her portrayal of Mamie Till in 2022’s Till.
“These Black women are killing it, right?” John David told The Hollywood Reporter of working alongside the actresses onscreen and onstage at the Los Angeles premiere of the film at the Egyptian Theater on Tuesday. “These Black women can go.
