After the Covid-19 pandemic hampered its rollout of sci-fi thriller Lumina, Goldove Entertainment opted to handle distribution itself instead of working with a sales agent. Plans included creating dozens of life-sized standees to advertise the movie, conducting a sweepstakes with tens of thousands of dollars in prizes and hiring a company that could get the film into theaters. At the end of the day, it spent roughly $4 million on marketing for a title it hoped to make at least $20 million the opening week.
On Monday, Goldove Entertainment sued distribution partner Wild About Movies, which allegedly lied about the number of theaters that would show the movie, for fraud and breach of contract. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, faults the company for the film’s underwhelming box office performance and seeks damages equivalent to its marketing spend.

It's been quite a ride for Cuba Gooding Jr. When we first saw him, he was just a goofy-looking 20-year-old kid trying to keep a straight face as Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall yukked it up as heavily made-up (by the great Rick Baker) old-timers at a Queens barbershop in "Coming to America." Three years later, he was the lead of John Singleton's groundbreaking drama "Boyz n the Hood," which launched him to big-screen stardom. Or should have, anyway. Instead, Hollywood relegated him to thankless supporting roles in crap like "Lightning Jack" and "Outbreak" until he finally got another role worthy of his talent in Cameron Crowe's "Jerry Maguire." As Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Rod Tidwell, Gooding did the sports world a service by demonstrating that uniquely talented individuals fighting to maximize their earnings before said talent fades are not the enemy; it's the business that fights hard...

In addition to her on-screen triumphs, the beloved Hollywood star Julia Roberts is also known for her complicated relationships with some of the industry figures, including her brother Eric Roberts, the Shakespeare in Love producer Edward Zwick, and the Hook director Steven Spielberg.

Another name that could fall under the same category is that of her former co-star Nick Nolte, who shared the screen with the actress in the 1994 romantic comedy I Love Trouble. Roberts openly discusses the behind-the-scenes tensions with Nolte, even describing him as “disgusting,” a remark that Nolte later reflects on years later.

After going dark last year due to the war in Gaza, the Cairo Film Festival now returns with a super-sized program and a more humanist remit. Running Nov. 13 – 22, this bulked out edition aims for wider international visibility and greater attendance, all while keeping the projectors running longer than ever before.
“We have to compensate,” says incoming artistic director Essam Zakarea. “We have to make a bigger edition with an unprecedented number of films.”
For this 45th edition, the Cairo Film Festival will screen 194 titles spread across 15 sections, including a number of competitive sections devoted to Palestinian stories and cinema.
This too was born of the similar instinct that the saw the lights dim in 2023.
“If last year was canceled in solidarity with Gaza, [we hold] this edition in that same solidarity,” Zakarea says. “Film festivals are just not for entertainment. They also can play a crucial role in politics, in making people more human,...

Italian indie thriller “The Contract,” starring Kevin Spacey as a character named “The Devil,” is set to world premiere at the Cairo Film Festival this week, without Spacey on the red carpet in the Egyptian capital’s Opera House.
In the film, Spacey plays a role that has been described in promotional materials as somewhat akin to Al Pacino’s role in “Devil’s Advocate”– or as Satan who takes the guise of a human lawyer. The tagline of the rather rudimentary poster for “The Contract” is “When Hell Surrounds You The Devil Is Your Last Hope.”
In the trailer, for what looks like a low-budget TV movie, Spacey’s character, is seen screaming lines such as: “I can feel it when they lie to me on purpose, and I go crazy!” and “I don’t care about the past, it’s all long gone!”

“It would be good for you to socialize with someone. Even the pedophiles!”
Such is the timeless maternal advice that Ethel (Eliza Roberts) offers her stunted adolescent son, known only as Hippo (Kimball Farley), with the hopes of getting him out of the house for a few hours. The unremarkable young man is typically laser-focused on playing Nintendo 64, masturbating against his own stuffed hippopotamus, and drinking milk that he despises because he values bone density above all else. It’s the kind of reclusive existence that causes even his legal guardian to wonder if being molested would be that much of a social downgrade.
But protecting her kids from pedophiles has never been Ethel’s strong suit. The time that she devotes to discussing hypothetical pedophiles at the local pool would be far better spent looking into the very real pedophile that her stepdaughter has invited into their home. The...

Actress Emma Roberts’ father, Eric Roberts, recently revealed some of his personal regrets regarding his parenting of his daughter.
In a conversation with Michael Rosenbaum on the Inside of You podcast, Eric responded to a question in regard to his disappointments. “Probably the loss of the relationship with my daughter,” he said. “There’s not a pain, there’s a sadness for the most likely misunderstanding is what I’ll have forever because we’re human.”
In Eric’s memoir Runaway Train: The Story of My Life So Far, he gives a deeper explanation of the complicated relationship between himself and Emma.

We're inching closer to the finish line on HBO’s The Penguin, the limited series spinoff to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Each week, as we learn more about the crime world of Gotham and the villains who inhabit it, we also dig deeper into the supporting characters who impact the leads, such as Oz Cobb’s (Colin Farrell) mother Francis (Deirdre O'Connell). What makes Oz such a great character is how complicated he is; not only is he ruthless and conniving, but he's also awkward, insecure, and needs reassurance from his mom.
We get to know Francis a little bit throughout The Penguin, and while she might have a limited role, O'Connell’s performance does a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to explaining why Oz is the way he is. I had the pleasure of catching up with the actress at New York Comic Con earlier this month,...

Eric Roberts is giving insight into the “toughest period” of his life, which he says was the “loss of relationship” with his daughter Emma Roberts.
For those who don’t know, Eric shares Emma, 33, with his ex Kelly Cunningham. He lost custody of her during his battle with addiction in the early 1990s, but he has been sober since 1995.
Eric talked about his family during an interview on the Inside of You podcast.

When asked to name the toughest period of his life, Eric said, “Probably the loss of relationship with my daughter. There’s not a pain, there’s a sadness for the, most likely, misunderstandings [that] I’ll have forever. Because we’re human.”
Eric says he was able to look back at his regrets when he became a grandfather.
“I started accepting that about myself with the birth of my grandchildren,” he said.

We generally don’t expect sitcom cast members to be involved in global political controversies, hence why stories about the Cuban Missile Crisis featured zero references to Rob and Laura Petrie from The Dick Van Dyke Show. But earlier this year, it was reported that an alleged Russian disinformation campaign targeting the former Soviet republic of Moldova enlisted the help of Dunder Mifflin’s resident accountant/chili handler Kevin Malone, aka actor Brian Baumgartner.
This week, Moldova held a national referendum and ultimately voted to pursue membership in the European Union. The “Yes” vote passed by “the slimmest of margins” — just 50.39 percent. Meanwhile, Moldova’s President Maia Sandu won the first round in the presidential election, but didn’t meet the “50 percent margin needed to avoid a runoff.” The “pro-Western” leader blamed the poor numbers on “unprecedented assault on our country’s freedom and democracy” by “foreign forces.” And at...

"Let us bear humble witness." Kinematics has debuted a trailer for a weird little indie film called Hippo, a kooky creation from filmmaker Mark H. Rapaport as his feature debut. It premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival and it also played at the Calgary Underground Film Festival earlier this year. Hippo, a peculiar adolescent, and his Hungarian step-sister Buttercup struggle to come of age in late 90s America, under the roof of a mother who has been institutionalized at least once. Reviews describe the film as "an avant-garde sex comedy that unleashes the quirks of Wes Anderson and Jim Jarmusch to their weirdest extents." Huh. Adding that it also "doesn't hold back in exploring taboo subjects... yet offering riotous laughter through the characters' absurdity." The indie film stars Kimball Farley, Lilla Kizlinger, Eliza Roberts, and Eric Roberts. This definitely won't be for everyone, but adventurous cinema nerds should check it out anyway.

No one seems as sorted as Julia Roberts, in Hollywood, considering how the actress neither fumbles with her choice of project, nor with her life decisions. So here’s a throwback to when the Runaway Bride actress actually turned her own wedding into the film’s plot. Dumping her fiancée Kiefer Sutherland three days before the wedding, Roberts went her own way in life.

Now, people might assume that actor Kiefer Sutherland must have felt heartbroken and possibly cursed Julia Roberts. But surprisingly, the actor praised his ex-fiancée for her bravery. Implying that everyone gets cold feet before their wedding, but only a few hold the guts to call off the event, Sutherland shockingly embraced Roberts’ courage.

Who went home on Dancing With The Stars tonight?
The new season of the beloved reality competition show started out with a bang, with many couples snagging a 20+ score on their first twirl out.
Then things got interesting, with not one but two stars being axed right from the start.
Of course, fans have their favorites now, rallying behind their favorite Olympians, reality stars, and even convicts.
But someone has to go home, and the latest contestant to be eliminated was a surprise, but also weirdly celebrated as fans were a bit fed up with their “showmance”.

One of those pro dancers recently revealed she got eliminated a second time due to an injury she suffered.
Emma Slater was one of the couples eliminated from DWTS Season 33 last week, as she and her partner, actor Reginald VelJohnson, got sent home.
Taking to Instagram, Emma shared a carousel post which began with an image of herself in a hospital bed with a wrapped ankle.
A second image showed fellow dance pro Britt Stewart posing for a selfie in the hospital room with Emma in the background. Stewart was also eliminated last week with actor Eric Roberts.
A final photo in Emma’s carousel showed her leg elevated on a pillow at home with the green cast or brace around her ankle.

Former Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy doesn’t like the way Carrie Ann Inaba provides critiques on the show.
Maksim, who previously won Season 18 with Olympic medalist Meryl Davis, hasn’t appeared on DWTS since Season 25.
Carrie Ann, a cast member since the show’s 2005 debut, remains one of the show’s core judges alongside Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough.
She’s often received online criticism from fans calling out her scoring or critiques.
During the show’s current season, Carrie Ann (initially) defended controversial cast member Anna Delvey from online hate, even blasting the audience after her opening dance in the Season 33 premiere.
However, she later slammed Anna for being dismissive in answering a question about what she learned on the show after she was eliminated. Maksim seemingly agreed with Carrie Ann’s opinion of Anna following her elimination.

Known for her captivating on-screen performances and undeniable charm, Julia Roberts has been a dominant force in the film industry for decades. With her rise to stardom, not only has her career and work attracted significant attention, but so has her life behind the scenes. Like many Hollywood stars, her romantic relationships and complicated family dynamics have been a subject of public fascination.
The Roberts family has been rooted in the entertainment business, with her parents being one-time actors and playwrights. Her older brother, Eric Roberts, was the first in the family to make it big in Hollywood.

Eric Roberts was one of two celebrities who was sent home on Tuesday night.
The double elimination came after back-to-back Monday and Tuesday night episodes featuring Soul Train Night and Hair Metal Night.
Even though Eric performed well, it seems the youth has it this season as he and Reggie VelJohnson both were sent home along with their partners, Britt Stewart and Emma Slater.
It was an interesting night, with Gene Simmons on hand as a guest judge to shake things up.
DWTS viewers weren’t impressed with the Kiss frontman’s antics — from his commentary on seemingly everyone’s looks to his mile-high scoring so early in the season.
But it wasn’t until the end that the Oscar nominee was offended by something a DWTS co-host said to him on the fly.

Dancing With the Stars had two nights of performances since the show was not on air the previous week. On Monday, Oct. 7, the contestants celebrated Soul Train Night while Tuesday was Hair Metal Night as they danced to rock anthems. Since there were two performances this week, there was a double elimination, so we sadly said goodbye to two celebrities.
All of the couples put their best feet forward and while there were some performances that didn’t go to plan, leaving Ilona Maher in tears on night two for example, it was still fun to watch, especially with guest judges Rosie Perez on night one and rocker Gene Simmons on night two.
Who went home after two nights of performances on Dancing With the Stars?
The scores for both nights were combined and their total reflected both dances, even though the elimination only took place on the second night of the competition.

The thirty-third season of Dancing with the Stars kicked off in September with a new roster of celebrities. Ranging from actors, models, and reality TV contestants to more unorthodox celebrities like con artist Anna Delvey and Olympians, the latest season of the dance reality TV show seems to be off to a good start.
The show has been on the air since 2005 and has seen many counterparts in different countries. Dancing with the Stars has seen professional dancers, celebrities, hosts, and judges receive lucrative deals to appear on the series, and now all questions regarding their salaries and payouts will be revealed.

Reality TV lovers may enjoy watching swift choreography on Dancing With the Stars, but things aren’t always peachy behind the scenes. DWTS comes with its own level of drama beyond stage performances. Julianne Hough has been a cohost on DWTS since Season 32 of the show. Before landing the coveted gig, she actually took home the DWTS trophy at the end of Season 4 back in 2007. Most recently, it looks like Julianne offended another ex-contestant named Eric Roberts. These are the details of their drama.
Julian Hough And Eric Roberts Aren’t Getting Along
Julianne spoke with Eric after his elimination from DWTS. Since he didn’t have much say in response to any of her questions, she compared him to none other than Anna Delvey. As a reminder, after Anna was eliminated from the show, she made the claim that she took “nothing” away from the competition whatsoever. From Anna‘s perspective,...

Oscar nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway Train) and TV star Reginald VelJohnson (Family Matters) captured viewers’ hearts with their sentimental performances on Season 33 of Dancing With the Stars — but not their votes. The two favorites were voted off the reality dance competition series on last night’s show. TV Insider spoke to the two and their dance partners on the post-show press line. “I’m just really proud of Eric for what he accomplished in this process, which is not an easy one,” Britt Stewart, Roberts’ partner, told TV Insider. Roberts says he’s going to walk away with many memories that he’s shared with Stewart during their journey together and also the kindness he felt from the DWTS company. “There’s a crew of over 200 people here, and they make you feel like family,” he says. “You fall in love with the show, your partner, everyone here is so kind and so aware.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Week 3: Gene Simmons Hands Out 2 Season Firsts: A 10, and Inappropriateness
This article contains spoilers for the Oct. 8 episode of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Kiss frontman Gene Simmons handed out the first 10 of the season to model Brooks Nader when he sat in as guest judge for “Hair Metal Night,” on Tuesday’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” but that score was mysteriously lowered to a 9 in the final tally.
Although he held up a 10 paddle, cohost Julianne Hough told Simmons that he had “actually keyed in” a 9, which was added to Nader’s overall score.
Viewers cringed at the 75-year-old rocker’s comments about the female dancers’ bodies, which caused more online chatter than the two celebs who were sent home, oldest (and stiffest) dancers: Eric Roberts and Reginald VelJohnson.

Once more for the people in the back: way to go, you!
Your votes — however many you decided to register on Sept. 24– helped Dancing with the Stars to hit a major milestone. More than 14 million votes were tabulated that night, the most received on a single episode in series history! Either that means you really love you some Ilona Maher or you would have done whatever it took to make sure Anna Delvey was given her walking papers.
And get this: it didn’t stop there. A whopping 15 million voted on hair metal night! It had to be all the bag wigs and the presence of special guest judge-cum-world renowned ballroom expert Gene Simmons, right? Clearly, DWTS fans are clearly more engaged than ever, which is a good sign for ABC. That means we’ll have TV’s best variety show for years to come!
