Wicked Box Office (North America): Surpasses Grease In Just 8 Days (Photo Credit – Instagram/Prime Video)

The box office is exploding with tentpole movies and has recorded one of the biggest Black Friday collections ever in North America. Wicked is already set to be one of the biggest movies of the year, and it has once again set a new record even before saying goodbye to the second weekend. It has surpassed Grease’s domestic haul to become the highest-grossing musical adaptation and the first to achieve another huge feat. Scroll below for the deets.

Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, was released in 1978. The musical rom-com was directed by Randal Kleiser and based on the 1972 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It revolves around the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson, who develop a deep attraction for one another during a summer romance.

In “A Week of Hollywood Legends,” Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) are bidding off property from the estate of singer and actor Olivia Newton-John, including the black leather jacket Newton-John’s Sandy rode off into the sky in with John Travolta’s Danny in Grease. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which supports plant medicine research for cancer. Comedian John Mulaney and actor Olivia Munn have announced their second child, a daughter named Méi June Mulaney.

Munn shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, writing that Méi was born via surrogate on Thursday.

“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” Munn captioned her post, which included a photo of the parents and baby together in the hospital. “When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel.

Olivia Munn and John Mulaney have grown their family! The Hit Monkey star took to Instagram today to reveal the arrival of the couple’s second baby. Neither actor had previously shared they were expecting a baby.

The actress shared that she and John welcomed a daughter on September 14, 2024, “the year of the dragon.” The couple named their daughter Méi June Mulaney. Of her daughter’s name, The Newsroom star shared, “Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese 梅.”

John Mulaney and Olivia Munn announced the arrival of their second child on Sunday. Munn wrote on social media that she welcomed the little girl via gestational surrogate.

“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” Munn, who announced in March she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and later revealed she underwent a hysterectomy as a part of her treatment, wrote on Instagram. “When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”

Elle Macpherson is speaking out publicly for the first time about being diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago.

In a recent interview with Women’s Weekly, the Australian model and businesswoman recounted the call from her doctors when they informed her that she was diagnosed with HER2 positive estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma. She was advised to undergo chemotherapy, but she chose a holistic approach to treatment instead.

“It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways,” she said. “And it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me. I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it. And that’s what I did. So, it was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature...

It seems odd to start at the ending of “Dick,” the 1999 Watergate satire starring Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams and now celebrating its 25th anniversary. But those final lines, spoken by Dunst’s Betsy to Williams’ Arlene, the teen girl duo whom the movie posits as the real political masterminds behind the Deep Throat informant that helped bring down Richard “Dick” Nixon, hit different when rewatching “Dick” in the current political climate.

“We knew at the time that that was meant to be a joke,” said screenwriter Sheryl Longin, who co-wrote the script with Fleming.

Jobson writes that the couple danced and mouthed the words to the song “You’re the One that I Want.” The tune was a smash hit in the movie musical Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

Their performance was reportedly a huge success.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” appears to be playing with time a little bit, with the appearance of the Time Variance Authority, so perhaps it makes sense that the soundtrack for the film is filled with throwbacks.

In theaters now, the film officially brings Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) into the MCU, as the two pair up — begrudgingly, in the case of Wolverine — to save Wade’s world.

Surprisingly, there’s no Wham! on this soundtrack, but it does get pretty meta, bringing in a song from one of Hugh Jackman’s musicals. And, before you get excited, no, that’s not Taylor Swift on the soundtrack confirming any rumors she might be in the film.

Her song is called “You Belong With Me,” not “You Belong to Me.” This one is a classic though.

Like its predecessors, Deadpool & Wolverine recruited some heavy-hitting songs for its soundtrack, which is fitting for the reunion of Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who was born James Howlett.

While the trailer teased Madonna’s Like a Prayer, other anthems by groups like *Nsync and AC/DC or even the Goo Goo Dolls back action-packed and heartfelt moments in the film. Avril Lavigne has a banger in there as well, and of course, some of Hugh Jackman’s past projects creep in.

Just a month after performing together at CMA Fest’s Spotify House, Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll are getting ready to drop a new collab. On Thursday, the pair announced single “Lonely Road,” which features a nod to John Denver’s iconic 1971 track “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Constructing a soundtrack album is a gentle -- and perhaps lost -- art. This author is old enough to remember the 1990s heyday of movie soundtracks, when film producers would regularly license charting pop hits, obscure deep cuts, upcoming rappers, and underappreciated indie bands to construct carefully curated and meticulously produced albums that lived happily in your friends' cars all summer. There was a time when an unsuccessful film could recoup a lot of its theatrical losses with overwhelming soundtrack record sales. See: "Dead Man on Campus."

As the music industry collapsed in the early 2000s, however, soundtrack records fell out of favor. Movie songs became mere playlists, neither arranged on a CD in any cogent order nor lending themselves toward a general thematic thrust. We '90s teens can now whine (as is our wont) that soundtrack albums are, in the '20s, rarely more than "pile of neat songs.

A signed album of some of the earliest Taylor Swift recordings has been sold in auction for just over $12,000, according to Goldin Auctions.

Swift’s origins in country music are no secret, but she first began pursuing her career during a Nashville trip with her mother at age 11 to drum up interest from major labels like any other aspiring artist in town. This included demo CDs showing off her songwriting alongside covers proving her chops, exactly like the cuts found on the recently sold album.

Olivia Munn recently underwent a hysterectomy as she has been battling breast cancer for over a year, she revealed in a magazine profile published over the weekend.

Munn spoke with Vogue magazine regarding the five surgeries she has undergone since she was diagnosed with luminal B breast cancer in both breasts in April 2023. According to Munn, her doctor decided the best course of action was to ensure her body no longer produces estrogen.

“I have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries,” the 43-year-old told the magazine. “It was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family.”

Munn has been partnered with comedian John Mulaney since 2021 and the two share a son, Malcolm.

Susan Buckner, the actress and dancer best known for her turn as the bubbly and often-teased Rydell High cheerleader Patty Simcox in the 1978 blockbuster musical Grease, has died. She was 72.

She died Thursday in Miami, family spokesperson Melissa Berthier announced. No cause of death was revealed.

Buckner portrayed Hollywood bad girl Jean Harlow alongside Tommy Lee Jones in the 1977 CBS telefilm The Amazing Howard Hughes and was one of the dancers/synchronized swimmers known as the Kroffettes on The Brady Bunch Hour (the 1976-77 ABC variety show was created by Sid and Marty Krofft). Susan Buckner, renowned for her portrayal of cheerleader Patty Simcox in the iconic movie Grease, has died at the age of 72.

Melissa Berthier, a spokesperson for the family, confirmed that Buckner passed away peacefully on May 2, surrounded by loved ones.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Buckner’s daughter, Samantha Mansfield, shared with People magazine, “The light she brought into every room will be missed forever. She was magic, and I was very lucky to call her my best friend.”

Born in Seattle, Washington, in 1952, Buckner initially gained attention as a beauty pageant queen, winning the title of Miss Washington in 1971 and placing in the top ten at the Miss America pageant in 1972.

Her journey into entertainment commenced with appearances on popular variety shows like The Dean Martin Show and The Mac Davis Show.

Susan Buckner, an American actor best known for her role as Patty Simcox in the 1978 musical “Grease,” died May 2. She was 72. Her death was confirmed by her publicist.

At the age of 25, Buckner was cast in the role of the Rydell High cheerleader, joining a cast that included John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Susan Buckner, best known to moviegoers as Grease‘s bubbly cheerleader Patty Simcox, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Miami on May 2.

Her death was announced by family.

Buckner’s Grease character was the Rydell High cheerleading pal of Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy. The 1978 film also starred John Travolta and Stockard Channing.

Born on January 28, 1952, in Seattle, Washington, Buckner was crowned Miss Washington in 1971 and represented the state in the Miss America pageant the following year. Soon after, she became one of The Dean Martin Show’s Golddiggers dancers, and that led her to become part of the all-girl group Fantasy and the musical duo Buckner and Pratt.

She also appeared on such variety shows as The Mac Davis Show, Sonny and Cher and, as a dancer and synchronized swimmer, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

In 1977, she landed her signature role of perky Patty Simcox, Grease‘s embodiment of pep and school spirit.

Richard Tandy, who played keyboards for Electric Light Orchestra on all of its records since 1972 including the Top 10 hits “Evil Woman,” “Telephone Line” and “Don’t Bring Me Down,” died Wednesday. He was 76.

Pop superstar Beyoncé has released the tracklist for her latest album, a foray into country music titled Cowboy Carter, which is set for release on Thursday and will include a cover of a beloved Dolly Parton classic and a guest appearance from genre legend Willie Nelson.

The tracklist was revealed on the singer’s Instagram account Wednesday in anticipation of her follow-up to the smash hit Renaissance album, released in 2022 to universal acclaim. Named in the graphic image that displays the new album’s tracks is “Jolene,” one of Parton’s most beloved and covered tracks, having previously been covered by the late Olivia Newton-John, The White Stripes and Miley Cyrus, among others. The rodeo poster-style track confirms its inclusion and also touts guest Nelson on a track titled “Smoke Hour.”

Olivia Munn has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The actress shared in an Instagram post that she hoped that sharing her diagnosis would help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their journey.

She explained that in February 2023, she took a genetic test that checked her for 90 different cancer genes, and she tested negative for all of them, including Brca, which is the most well-known breast cancer gene.

This past winter, she had a normal mammogram, and two months later, she found out she had breast cancer.

“In the past ten months I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined,” she wrote. “Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice. Olivia Munn revealed today that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and has undergone four surgeries including a double mastectomy.

In an Instagram post today, the 43-year-old actor said, “I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”

Munn said on the post that she was diagnosed in February 2023 after testing negative for the Brca gene, a mutation commonly linked to breast cancer. Despite the negative test, her Ob-gyn determined she had a 37% lifetime risk of having breast cancer and so advised Munn to undergo an Mri and a biopsy.

“Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Munn wrote.
