Tex Williams, along with Spade Cooley and Bob Wills, was among the most
popular bandleaders in the musical genre known as "western swing" in
the 1940s and 1950s (although he used the nickname "Tex", he was
actually from Illinois). His popularity led to Universal Pictures
bringing him to Hollywood to make a series of musical western shorts in
the late 1940s, and he and his band shot about a dozen of them before
the series ended in 1952.
