The iconic Grateful Dead spin-off band, Dead & Company, has launched its highly anticipated Dead Forever residency at the immersive Sphere venue in Las Vegas.

The three-night opening weekend, held from May 16 to 18, saw Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane take the stage to deliver performances of classic Grateful Dead songs, such as fan favorites “Fire on the Mountain,” “Truckin'” and “Franklin’s Tower.” The band’s signature mind-bending visuals were showcased on the venue’s 160,000-square-foot wraparound screen, which created an immersive psychedelic landscape.

The event saw the presence of several notable celebrities, such as Mayer’s best friend, Andy Cohen, as well as Diplo, Miles Teller, Chantel Jefferies and Cruz Beckham.

The Las Vegas Strip has been transformed into a massive Shakedown Street thanks to Dead & Company, who officially opened their “Dead Forever” residency at The Sphere on Thursday night.

Taking the stage of Las Vegas’ hottest new venue for the first of 24 shows, Dead & Company played a jam-packed, 19-song set delivered in two parts. After opening with “Feel Like a Stranger,” the group performed fan favorites like “Jack Straw,” “Bird Song,” and “Brown-Eyed Woman.”

Following a half-hour break, Dead & Company picked up with “Uncle John’s Band” and ran through classics like “Help on the Way,” “Slipknot!,” and “Franklin’s Tower.” They closed the evening with back-to-back covers of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and The Crickets’ “Not Fade Away.”

Dead & Company kicked off their 2022 tour Friday evening with an epic show at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium that was heavy on Dead standards like “Casey Jones,” “China Doll,” “Jack Straw,” and “Scarlet Begonias.” Toward the end of the second set, they broke out a cover of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” that transitioned into an instrumental coda of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude.” Check out the fan-shot video above.

Bob Weir and the Flying Other Brothers’ Bert Keely joined together for a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

The duo recorded the Lennon classic following the death of Richard Newton, their friend and Dean of Uc Berkeley’s School of Electrical Engineering. The delicate rendition features Weir on vocals and guitar while Keely supplies bass and harmony.

The Broadway creator tapped Hollywood’s most qualified (and creative) director of musicals for the stage to screen conversion, retaining much of the original New York talent. Doris Day is a sensation as Babe Williams, whose romantic and labor problems play out at a sleepwear factory. The underground is vast, and the story dark and poignant in “Jane Patrol,” the ninth episode of Doom Patrol. While still remaining a super hero show, this installment is a mind screw of a psychological drama that addresses a character’s inner demons, and her unwillingness to (literally) let someone else in.

And it all feels very relatable.

Following a disturbing scene between young Kay Challis and her sexually abusive father, the episode picks up with the alter Karen banished to the Underground, the unconscious world of Jane’s core personality. Back on August 27th, 1972, the Grateful Dead journeyed to Veneta, Oregon, to link up with Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. Hot off a European tour, the Dead joined the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and his crew for a benefit show for the Kesey family's Springfield Creamery. The band played through a number of tracks, including "Sugar Magnolia," "Promised Land" and a 30-minute version of "Dark Star." The gig became well known to fans as a particularly noteworthy Dead show, living on as the unreleased concert film Sunshine Daydream.

LONDON -- Repercussions from the Hutton Report continued Thursday after a newspaper claimed the BBC board of governors had rejected the advice of its own legal staff to refute Hutton's findings. The governors chose instead to accept the resignations of the BBC's top two executives and issue a full apology. The story, in the Independent newspaper, was based on what it claimed was a leaked copy of a 135-page document penned by BBC counsel. It said the document challenged statements made to parliament by Alastair Campbell, Prime Minister Tony Blair's former communications chief, over his role in constructing the September 2002 Iraq dossier on the threat of weapons of mass destruction. The story said BBC's lawyers also suggest that Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, misled MPs over concern in the intelligence community about the accuracy of some of the claims in the dossier, which was the main plank in the Government's case for war. The report outlined 12 main areas Lord Hutton ignored and contends that the law lord's findings were "wrong" in law. In a statement issued Thursday, which it said it would not elaborate on, the BBC refuted the claim that the board of governors had rejected legal advice. "There is no question that the BBC's Board of Governors ignored legal advice," the statement said.
