Exclusive: Shout! Factory TV will launch a 13-part digital docuseries called Cult-Tastic: Tales from the Trenches with Roger and Julie Corman that premieres Nov. 15 on Shout Factory TV’s Amazon Prime Video Channel and via Roku Channel’s Premium Subscription.

Created, written and co-produced by Ashley Sidaway and Robert Sidaway, Cult-Tastic features new, extensive, and in-depth interviews and represents the first docuseries from Shout! Factory TV. The subject matter is a rich and vivid one: Roger and Julie Corman and their seven decades as trailblazing indie filmmakers.

One of the most prolific producers in cinema history, Roger Corman is known as the Pope of Pop Culture and the King of the Cult Film after producing more than 350 films and directing 60 more, among them Machine Gun Kelly, A Bucket of Blood, X: The Man with X-Ray Eyes, Bloody Mama and Frankenstein Unbound. Roger Corman was honored with the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2009.

Cormans’ Hollywood, a 13-episode documentary series teeming with archival footage and insights from seven decades of filmmaking by Roger Corman and his wife, Julie, has been set by Shout! Studios, Ace Film Hk Co. and Friendship Films.

Thirteen 50-minute episodes were shot over four months in La, drawing heavily on the library of the Cormans’ New Horizons Pictures, which Shout! and Ace acquired earlier this year. The series traces the Cormans’ trail-blazing path as independent producers, including their mentorship of young film talent who would go on to become Hollywood royalty.

There is a long list of A-listers who cut their teeth working with Roger Corman, producer of 350 films and director of 60 titles, including the likes of A Bucket of Blood, The Wild Angels and The Little Shop of Horrors. Among them are Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Ron Howard, Peter Fonda and Jonathan Demme.

Exclusive: UK sales outfit boards 3D family fantasy with Willow Shields.

Metro International has boarded sales on completed UK-China-New Zealand family adventure movie Into The Rainbow (formerly The Wonder).

The Hunger Games’ Willow Shields, Chinese star Leo Wu, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen, Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Archie Kao star in the story of two teenagers who travel inside a super-powered rainbow to China.

Norman Stone (Shadowlands) and Gary Wing-Lun Mak (My Beautiful Kingdom) direct the 3D feature written by Ashley Sidaway, Robert Sidaway and Lindsay Edmonds. Producers include Richard Fletcher (Boy) and Iain Brown (Indian Summer).

The English-language production is part-financed by Tien Ran Media Group, a subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba. The Golden Era distributor Stellar Mega Films is due to release locally.

The project was previously handled by Embankment Films.

Exclusive: China-nz-uk production with Karl Urban, Willow Shields gets cast, finance, director.

China-nz-uk 3D fantasy The Wonder, starring Karl Urban (Dredd) and Willow Shields (The Hunger Games) is currently prepping in China with shoot due to get underway early next month.

UK sales outfit Embankment Films has boarded international sales on the $20m feature, which will now be directed by actor-director Saul Rubinek (True Romance) who has taken over from Sliding Doors filmmaker Peter Hewitt.

Additional cast includes Il Postino actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Chinese teen star Wu Lei and leading Chinese actress Joe Chen Chiau-En (The Monkey King).

Also new to the English-language production is financier Tien Ran Media Group, a subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba, which is making its first foray into international film production.

Tien Ran replaces Show + Share Investment as the film’s primary Chinese financier.

The Golden Era distributor Stellar Mega Films is due to release locally.

Start-up UK and Beijing-based production company Parc Media has unveiled a slate of three China-uk co-productions, two of which will use Douglas Trumbull’s new Magi 3D process.

The new technology is designed to capture and display images at 120 frames per second in 4K and 3D on giant screens using conventional digital projectors.

The first Parc Media project scheduled to shoot with Magi 3D is previously-announced fantasy adventure The Wonder 3D, which will be co-produced by China’s Show + Share Investment.

Peter Hewitt is directing the $20m project with Karl Urban and Willow Shields heading the cast.

Parc Media also plans to co-produce $60m sci-fi epic StarSailor, written and to be directed by Trumbull and designed for Magi 3D. The producers are in talks with potential Chinese government financiers.

Exclusive: Chinese film producers Chun-Yi Yueh and Changyu Li and UK writer-producers Robert and Ashley Sidaway together with the UK’s Iain Brown and Brown Films have launched the $5m funded Sz Wonder Pictures.

The new outfit will produce five feature films over three years based out of Shenzen, China and Auckland, New Zealand.

The first title is $18m family fantasy adventure The Wonder 3D, directed by BAFTA Award-winner Peter Hewitt (Garfield, The Borrowers) which will start principal photography in October 2013 in Auckland and Shenzhen. The Chinese and Western cast will be announced shortly but Karl Urban and Willow Shields were previously understood to be attached to the project.

Us-based Hyde Park International will handle sales and distribution on the film outside mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
