If you grew up in the early aughts, then Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire was your jam. If anything, the first fashion police of our tween days was none other than Katherine "Kate" Sanders (Ashlie Brillault), who'd constantly tell Lizzie (Hilary Duff), "You are an outfit repeater." Ouch, much! But that's not why the cult-fave Disney show is tugging at our teen hearts this week. Carly Schroeder, who played Melina Bianco (Matt's bestie and partner in crime), announced major news recently. She joined the army! As she puts it, "Serving my country will give my voice more validity." Sharing the wonderful news on Instagram, the 28-year-old star...

Carly Schroeder's left Hollywood for the Army, because she's on a life mission to help out those who desperately need it ... and feels it's time to walk the walk. The "Lizzie McGuire" actress joined "TMZ Live" Wednesday to discuss her decision to enlist, which wasn't made lightly. She tells us she got a lot of support from her family, though ... especially her dad, a former Green Beret, and her younger brother, a Marine. View...

*full disclosure: a Blu-ray copy of this film was provided by Magnet Releasing for review. Director: W. Peter Iliff. Writers: Rick Halsey and W. Peter Iliff. Cast: Wes Bentley, Kate Maberly, Ryan Donowho, Christian Slater, Stephen Dorff, Briana Evigan, Travis Van Winkle, Carly Schroeder, Ashley Hinshaw and Guy Burnet. A rite of passage is often a transition from adolescence into adulthood. The Jewish people celebrate this transition of a boy into puberty with a Bat Mitzvah. Mozoltov! In W. Peter Iliff's (Point Break) Rites of Passage, there is very little ceremony or celebration. Instead, there is fractured storyline, weak acting and a film that seems to spin its tires, rather than moving forward. This title released October 16th through home video formats and this review is your friendly warning to stay away from this title. To elaborate more on rites of passage, these rituals usually brought initiates into groups more fully.

A fun filled weekend turns into a nightmare of terror for a group of high school graduates after they are picked off one by one by a malevolent force who then erases their memory of the deceased person ever existing.
Another high concept horror film that never fully lives up to the potential of the material. Forget Me Not never fully realizes using this idea of people forgetting about one another after being mysteriously killed. It never gets into the mindset of one of the characters who realizes what's going on, yet can't figure out a way to stop it or to get her friends to remember the other people who have been killed off. *full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films.
**here be spoilers (of course).
Director: Tyler Oliver.
Writers: Tyler Oliver and Jamieson Stern.
Forget Me Not is a horror film from Tyler Oliver, which will release on DVD May 24th, 2011, through Phase 4 Films. The film stars Carly Schroeder (Prey), Cody Linley (Cheaper by the Dozen), and Brie Gabrielle, in what is a mostly tense thriller. Taking some license with the Ring and Red Mist, Forget Me Not introduces a young girl placed in a coma, by some misguided youth. In this unconscious state, Angela (Brittany Renee Finamore) takes revenge on these kids, now grown up, by reliving a childhood game. The dominoes fall one by one, as Oliver develops a supernatural mythos involving characters returning from the grave. Few characters survive their time in this local graveyard.
Comparisons to other films crop up pretty quick into this film.

After a couple of light on horror weeks, we are finally treated to a bumper crop of new releases. Headlining the week is Frozen, which is just what we in Southern California need to stave off our current heat wave. A couple of oldies but goodies are out, too, as Madman celebrates its Happy 30th Birthday and the original King Kong comes to Blu-ray. Fangoria's eight FrightFest titles bow as well.
Frozen
Directed by Adam Green
In Frozen (review), Adam Green has crafted a potent combination of absolute terror and compelling human drama that will stick with you long after you've left the theatre or turned off the DVD. One thing's for sure: The next time your friends invite you on a ski weekend, odds are you'll try to convince them to head to the beach instead. Frozen stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell and Kevin Zegers.
Buy the Blu-ray or the regular DVD.

Micahel Hoffman is an up and coming director in the horror genre. After catching Spring Break Massacre and Rot: Reunion of Terror he has shown that his films can be very pointed and focused. He is a director that has the potential to have a clear point of view in the genre and his own distinctive voice all while under the age of 30, which hopefully he won't stray away from. As us genre fans know, some directors go there entire career (Steve Miner anyone?) without finding their point of view or voice. Between the films, even though they are stand alone films with different storylines and aren't connected in any way between each other, there is a cohesion of style and themes and feel unqiuely like the work of Michael Hoffman. So kudos to this up and coming talent!

Michael Hoffman is a bright up and coming presence in the horror community who directs amusing homages in the horror genre. He is also heading a DVD distribution label that has plans to make President's Day its first release. However, he also has plans to release some of the lesser known titles of the genre along with some camp classics. His most well known title to date is Spring Break Massacre starring Reggie Bannister and Linnea Quigley in their only on screen role to date. Rumors are running rampant that there will either be a sequel to this film or a remake to it with Hoffman behind the director's chair yet again. Here's what he had to say about his career to date:
So you've been directing entertaining homages to the horror genre for the past 9 years, what made you want to get into directing?
You know, I'm not really sure.

Every now and then a film completely sneaks up on you and delivers a nice, pleasant surprise. Such is the case with Forget Me Not, a movie I didn't even know existed before watching the trailer (embedded below). Though I suppose in this particular case, 'nice' and 'pleasant' aren't the most applicable words, as Forget Me Not doesn't look quite so warm and fuzzy.
Written and directed by first timer Tyler Oliver, Forget Me Not tells the story of Sandy, a gal who just wants to survive high school. But when friends of hers start disappearing on the weekend of graduation, Sandy realizes the culprit is most likely a girl her group of friends wronged long ago. Now before you start rolling your eyes at how familiar of a setup that is, give the trailer a watch below. Unlike what you'd expect from a basic description like that, the culprit in question isn't exactly alive,...

Uncovered Film Review
I'm sure you've seen a ton of inspirational sports stories. I hesitated to see it, and you're likely to the point where you sometimes ignore new additions to the genre itself. Don't ignore Gracie. What I like about Gracie is that every time you expect the story to go in a likely direction (ie the happy and cheerful one), it goes the opposite way.
Sure, it's inspirational, but it's more about a girl who just wants to do what she grew up loving. It's not her fault that her school board decides soccer isn't for girls. The acting is great by all involved... you'll certainly come around with the dad - or not - in the story. Carly Schroeder as Gracie will knock you out with her performance.
