Paramount Pictures has revealed the new trailer and poster for Gladiator II, which will open in theaters on November 22, 2024. Ridley Scott directed the sequel.

Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the revered hero Maximus’s death at his uncle’s hands, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist.

Fathom Events, Raven Banner Releasing and Swissploitation Films just presented the theatrical premiere of the “modern grindhouse epic” Mad Heidi, which came to theaters nationwide for a special one-night-only engagement on Wednesday, June 21. First up, Japanese surrealist horror film New Religion is now streaming exclusively on Screambox beginning today, written and directed by Keishi Kondo.

In the film, “After her daughter’s death, divorced Miyabi begins working as a call girl. One day, she meets an unsettling customer who wants to take pictures of her body parts. Soon, she realizes that every time she allows her body to be photographed her daughter’s spirit gets closer. She must decide how far she is willing to go to connect with her daughter once again.”

The director behind Ray Stevenson’s final film has written a heartfelt farewell letter to the star, who died unexpectedly this week. Scroll down to read in full.

Péter Soós was flying home from the Cannes Film Festival when he was informed of Stevenson’s death aged 58.

The director had worked with the Rrr, Thor, Vikings and Rome actor on historical drama 1242 Gateway to the West. Stevenson replaced Kevin Spacey in the role and his scenes wrapped in Hungary back in February. Above is an image of Stevenson on set with Soós.

“On Monday night, on the way home by plane from Cannes, I received the news that you had left us. Only now can I find the words to speak,” wrote Soós. “I have realised the overwhelming weight of the responsibility that has fallen upon me with our work together on what is surely your last feature film.

Ray Stevenson's a busy man. Coming off of his head-turning role in cinephile sensation flick "Rrr," the man has also booked himself a role as a "Star Wars" bad guy in the upcoming "Ahsoka" Disney+ series. Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, he has replaced the extremely problematic Kevin Spacey in the historical action flick "1242: Gateway to the West" playing the lead role in the film about a Hungarian Priest who stands up against the Mongol army.

Also starring in the movie are Eric Roberts ("The Dark Knight"), Michael Ironside ("Starship Troopers"), Bold Choimbol ("Bogd Khaan"), David Schofield ("Gladiator"), and Christopher Lambert ("Highlander"). The film is currently in production under the direction of Peter Soos and is expected to be shopped around to distributors around the end of the year.

In the first leg of what it hopes is an industry revolution, Zurich-based A Film Company has raised north of 2 million in crowd investment from 560 people across 19 counties to co-finance “Mad Heidi,” an action-adventure horror comedy reimagining of the Swiss icon.

The Ott re-set includes portraying the Swiss icon Hedi as she’s never been seen before – with smocked dress, puffed sleeves, apron and pigtails, yes, but as a badass, kick-ass rebel with the brute strength to slice an opponent in two, top to toe, with a battle axe, for example.

In industrial terms, however, the change goes even further as “Mad Heidi” departs from traditional film models not only in financing but also distribution.

Starring Casper Van Dien (“Starship Troopers”) and David Schofield, the English-language movie, with a total 3.5 million budget, is now readying for the second and most radical part of the experiment: Exclusive global release day and date on madheidi.

17 days before the start of World War 2, English teacher Wheatley (Nigel Lindsay) goes missing from The Augusta-Victoria College for Girls in Bexley-on-Sea, the boarding school famous for housing the daughters and goddaughters of Nazi High Command. 6 days later Thomas Miller (Eddie Izzard) secures a job replacing Wheatley and from then on, tries to secretly find out what exactly happened. Inspired by true events, Six Minutes to Midnight is a period thriller written by Eddie Izzard, director Andy Goddard and co-writer Celyn Jones.

The film starts off strong, with fast-paced, intense scenes from Lindsey and Izzard. It’s accompanied by German composer Marc Streitenfeld’s beautiful score which is a delight to listen to throughout the film. This makes for a great start to the film, with an intriguing mystery to look forward to…or so you would hope.

Nickelodeon has ordered a TV series based on the popular British character, Paddington, with Ben Whishaw back to voice the character as he did in the two big-screen films.

Ordered for 26 episodes, “The Adventures of Paddington” centers on a younger Paddington as he writes letters to Aunt Lucy celebrating the new things he has discovered through the day’s exciting activities. Following its U.S. launch, “The Adventures of Paddington” will roll out on the net’s international channels and branded blocks beginning March 2020.

Along with Whishaw, new cast members include Morwenna Banks, Bobby Beynon, Sheena Bhattessa, Darren Boyd, Noel Clarke, Phyllis Logan, Monica Lopera, Sabrina Newton-Fisher, David Schofield, Reece Shearsmith, Liz Sutherland-Lim and Jeremiah Waysome. Exclusive: Stranger Things breakout Charlie Heaton is to star as Joseph Merrick in new two-part BBC One drama The Elephant Man, I can reveal.

The 2×90 minute drama bio-pic, from The Missing and Requiem producer New Pictures, will chart Merrick’s extraordinary story from his working-class beginnings in Leicestershire, through the work-houses, music halls and freak shows that punctuated 19th Century culture to his time at the London Hospital and his friendship with Dr Frederick Treves.

Commissioned by Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, and Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, and written by Neil McKay (Moorside), the series will be directed by Richard Laxton (Mum). Executive producers are Elaine Pyke and Charlie Pattinson for New Pictures and Tommy Bulfin for BBC. Producer is Tom Mullens (Poldark). all3media will handle international distribution and is associate producer.

The series will be filmed in Wales with transmission due next year with additional casting under way.

Omid Nooshin

UK filmmaker Omid Nooshin has passed away suddenly in London aged 43.

Nooshin was best known for making 2013 thriller Last Passenger, starring Dougray Scott, Iddo Goldberg, Kara Tointon, Lindsay Duncan and David Schofield.

The film, which sold well for Pathe International, earned Nooshin a Bifa nomination for best debut director.

Nooshin more recently co-scripted 2017 action-sci-fi Kill Switch, starring Dan Stevens and Berenice Marlohe. The film was sold by FilmNation Entertainment with buyers including Us outfit Saban Film.

The UK writer-director had been in development on his second directorial feature Invade, a Us horror film being produced by Silver Linings Playbook and Chocolat executive producer Michelle Raimo. He was also attached as associate producer to previously announced sci-fi Inversion.

Two-time Oscar-nominee Joe Walker, editor of Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, worked with Nooshin on Last Passenger.

"You can't hide the truth from Mindhorn." Get ready for this. An official trailer has debuted for a British cop spoof movie titled Mindhorn, which actually premiered at the London Film Festival last year. Surprising for a spoof comedy, but that must mean this is way better than expected. Mindhorn is about a washed-up actor named Richard Thorncroft, played by comedian Julian Barratt, who played "Mindhorn" on a 1980s detective show. He has a bionic eye that allows him to literally "see the truth", which is why he has the eye patch. Set in the current day, the film is about Mindhorn returning to the Isle of Man to take on the job of working as a real private detective. Jenna Coleman and Maisie Williams are about to be crushed – quite literally – in a fresh clip from this weekend's Doctor Who episode.

Saturday's 'The Girl Who Died' takes place in a Viking village, which The Doctor and Clara discover has been overrun by hostile race the Mire.

In the clip above, time is running out for Clara, Ashildr (Williams) and their Viking friends as the Mire trap them in a massive trash compactor-like device.

In spite of some truly vague hints about Ashildr's cosmic connection to The Doctor, we're still guessing about who exactly this plucky young woman really is.

Maisie Williams recently told Digital Spy that Ashildr is in fact "a new character" who meets The Doctor – and yet he recognises her somehow.

There can be no TV series finales without TV series and season premieres. Da Vinci's Demons, which Starz cancelled in July 2015, finds itself at the beginning of its own end. Doctor Who pits Vikings against aliens in its next explosive adventure, 'The Girl Who Died'.

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams makes a guest appearance in the episode, but do these new pictures hold any clues as to her character's identity?

Williams plays Viking girl Ashildr and the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) seems to recognise her. But from where? Or should that be when?

Da Vinci's Demons actor David Schofield also features in the new images, sharing scenes with Capaldi's Time Lord.

But is Schofield's character Odin really the famous figure from Nordic myth - the same bloke that Anthony Hopkins plays in the Thor movies?

You'll have to tune into BBC One at 8.20pm this Saturday (October 17) to get all the answers.

It will be another exciting series for the Time Lord, as he teams up with Unit once again and faces an entire city full of those menacing pepper-pots the Daleks.

The shape-shifting Zygons are back to cause trouble as well, following the failure of their world domination plot in Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special.

In the dead of night (and the slightly more alive of day over the Atlantic at this year's Sdcc), the BBC released a ninety-second trailer for Doctor Who series 9.

It showed Missy, Clara, a Zygon, Maisie Williams, a creature with two faces, and Peter Capaldi's Doctor headlining space Glastonbury or some such and wanting to kiss things to death.

Obviously we knew Clara, Missy and the Zygons were back, and we knew Maisie Williams was in the show but we didn’t know she was apparently ‘back’ as well. What this actually means, we can only speculate.

The trailer for the new series of Doctor Who tantalised us with a feast of monsters and new Peter Capaldi memes.

The BBC unveiled the first look at Capaldi's second full series during today's (July 9) fan panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. A premiere date of September 19 was also set.

Aside from introducing a terrifying crop of new monsters including a species called the Mire, series nine also brings back Michelle Gomez as the devious Time Lady known as Missy, a whole city full of Daleks and the shape-shifting Zygons.

Other returning favourites for the new series include Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver as Unit's Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Osgood, and Joivan Wade as 'Flatline's heroic teenager Rigsy.

The 12th Doctor and his best friend Clara Oswald will also have adventures with Game of Thrones...

The BBC’s The Musketeers will have to cope without its showrunner Adrian Hodges for its already-confirmed third series…

Here’s an interesting one – Adrian Hodges, creator and showrunner for the BBC’s The Musketeers, won't be signing on for the third series.

A third run for the family-friendly historical action drama has already been confirmed by the BBC (we can expect it early next year, if previous broadcast dates are anything to go by), but Hodges has ruled himself out for a return.

Our friends at Geek Syndicate got the scoop on the matter, with a quote from the man himself explaining his reason for leaving his own show:

“I just felt that after the last season I was totally knackered. I love the show but it had been a very intensive two…well four years really and what I didn’t want to go was go straight into developing a new season.

A tight, claustrophic thriller that puts a premium on character development, Last Passenger is one of the best surprises I’ve had at the movies in a long while. Indie thrillers, working with leaner budgets and lesser known stars, are often dead on arrival, thanks to scripts too weak to compensate for the lack of top-tier effects work. Luckily, writer-director Omid Nooshin and co-writer Andrew Love are smart enough to maintain a level of frightening plausibility in their film even as they ratchet the suspense up to agonizing levels. Couple their efforts with remarkably strong performances, and you’ve got one of the year’s best thrillers so far.

What’s this? I’m reviewing a new British movie? Yes indeed, if you’ve been a long time reader of my work, you may have noticed a proclivity for me to review mainly American movies be it of the mainstream or independent variety. But every so often a British flick comes along that grabs my attention – usually they’re of the horror or thriller variety of course, and Last Passenger is no different.

The film tells the story of a small group of passengers on a late night train out of London. In the sleepy and abandoned carriages stop after stop are missed and Lewis (Dougray Scott), with five other remaining passengers, end up on a ride of a lifetime as the train hurtles relentlessly down the track.

If you’re anywhere near the Los Angeles area this Saturday, you may be interested in checking out “An Evening with the Makers of An American Werewolf in London,” a special event that features a screening of the film and a number of guests, including John Landis and Rick Baker:
