Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. As these licensing agreements expire or change quite often, every month there are usually quite a few titles either joining or leaving Netflix.
The Top Gun-inspired movie that is departing the platform soon is one of these licensed titles, and it is particularly star-studded. Jamie Foxx is a well known multihyphenate who is a stand-up comedian and musician along with being a decorated actor, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 musical biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his work in Collateral.

War films play host to some of the most quotable movie characters of all time. Flexing their verbal dexterity, charismatic personalities, and lighting-quick wit through an array of memorable and instantly quotable soundbites, these standout characters have featured in virtually every brand of genre offering that one could think of, ranging from acclaimed films about lesser-known wars to war movies that are renowned for showcasing the camaraderie between soldiers.
This status quo comes down to the film's writing; great quotable characters couldn't exist without a superb script. As such, it's hardly surprising that many of the genre's most quotable characters can be found in the best war movies of all time, leveraging the potential afforded by a first-rate set of lines to the absolute maximum. The genre houses an array of standout examples when it comes to delivering a killer quote, numbering from legendary warriors of antiquity all the way to battle-hardened WWII soldiers.

Belonging in the pantheon of famous comic book writers with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Alan Moore is famous for creating some of the most iconic characters of all time. While he never worked for Marvel Comics in a serious capacity after his stint for Marvel UK in the early 1980s, Moore was an influential writer for DC throughout his career until his retirement from comic books in 2019. Last month, Alan Moore released his new book, having since focused on writing novels.
While he's influenced the superhero genre to the point of changing the meaning of superheroes with Watchmen, Moore has since disavowed it and hasn't held back in his expression of distaste for modern superheroes and their fandoms. In fact, Alan Moore doesn't own a copy of Watchmen anymore. He has distanced himself from most of his work as a comic book writer due to sour memories and negative experiences.

Van Helsing (2004) continues to hold up today when it comes to stunning visual effects. The movie was inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula novel, and its leading character, Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) faces off against Universal's various monsters and attempts to kill Dracula (Richard Roxburgh). The movie was generally panned by critics but limped along at the box office, earning $300 million on a budget of over $160 million. While Van Helsing's upcoming reboot remains in development, the new movie has struggled to gain traction over the years.

Some movies represent serious wasted potential when they flopped at the box office but might be successful if they were remade. In a time when there are only too many unwanted movie sequels and remakes, the possibility of movies that actually should be remade getting their day in the sun is realistic. These movies might have been derailed by a bad casting choice, one weak scene, overall sloppy book-to-movie writing, or other circumstances affecting the box office.
However, beloved movies from the 2000s that flopped demonstrate that movies that bombed for external reasons probably shouldn't be remade. The true potential here lies in bad movies based on acclaimed source material or titles that have brilliant premises but poor execution. If Hollywood is still committed to endless remakes, they should be looking to which remake ideas have demand and could redeem a previous movie's concept.

Eden (2024)gives us an unhinged Ana de Armas, and for that I am forever grateful. The actress is delectably vicious and simultaneously alluring. Its easy to hate her, and boy does Eden make us hate her. Directed by Ron Howard from a screenplay by Noah Pink, the film is based on a true story of European survivalists who live secluded on an uninhabited Galpagos island called Floreana. The film is wild, but its so much fun when it leans into the pettiness of human behavior, especially as it juxtaposes the reason Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) is there.

Sky Documentaries has unveiled plans for “Boyzone,” a three-part documentary series that will examine the trials and tribulations of Irish boyband and 1990s pop sensation Boyzone.
“For the first time in 30 years, band members Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Michael Graham grant rare and exclusive interview access [..] revealing their personal experiences in a band that sold over 25 million records worldwide, the boys also talk candidly about how they grappled with the true cost of global fame,” Sky said. “They confront the strained relationships and tragic events that have had a lasting impact on all their lives, families and friendships.”
“The documentary examines the key events that shaped Boyzone, including the highs and lows of global stardom, the intense tabloid intrusion in 1990’s Britain forcing Stephen Gately to come out, and after a sensational comeback in 2007, a devastating tragedy struck the band, as Gately died.

The opening credits sequences of the Mission: Impossible franchise have evolved over the years, with each movie bringing its own unique style and elements to the table. Every Mission: Impossible movie uses Lalo Schifrin's iconic theme tune, but they each add their own spin on it. The best Mission: Impossible credits sequences can get audiences even more excited for the movie.
The Mission: Impossible franchise begins every movie with a dynamic opening credits sequence, and these brief scenes have become one of the franchise's most popular traditions. Mission: Impossible is an adaptation of a TV series which began in the 1960s, and the movies use the same iconic theme tune by the Argentinian composer Lalo Schifrin. The movies also reference the show's opening credits, especially with the image of a lit fuse that the first few movies use. Over the course of seven movies, the franchise has developed plenty of its own motifs.

Eric Bana returns as Federal Agent Aaron Falk in Force of Nature: The Dry 2, investigating a missing woman. The sequel features a female-driven story with flashbacks, exploring Falk's character in dual timelines. Bana is open to a third movie adaptation if the right approach is found, with author Jane Harper's support.
Eric Bana is back as the troubled Australian Federal Agent Aaron Falk in Force of Nature: The Dry 2. The past few years have seen the actor, best known for his roles in the likes of 2003's Hulk, 2009's Star Trek and 2014's Deliver Us From Evil, return to his home country of Australia for a variety of projects, namely that of the 2020 adaptation of The Dry. Based on Jane Harper's novel of the same name, the first movie followed Falk as he headed to his childhood hometown to investigate the apparent murder-suicide of one of his old friends.

After getting through the reopened old wounds and fresh corpses of “The Dry” in his dusty outback hometown, Eric Bana’s Federal Agent Aaron Falk certainly deserved a change of scenery. He gets one in woodsy “Force of Nature: The Dry 2,” though naturally the second feature adapted by director Robert Connolly from Jane Harper’s print mystery series soon finds him equally knee-deep in troublesome sleuthing. This sequel to one of Australia’s biggest homegrown hits reprises much of its page-turning plottiness — as well as a straining for emotional depth that proves elusive. IFC is releasing to U.S. theaters and home formats on May 10.
Once again, and perhaps a little too neatly, a case forces Falk to revisit the tragedies of his own past. In the prior film, a childhood friend’s funeral set him to investigating its cause, an effort which soon exposed disturbing links to his...

Plot: Five women participate in a hiking retreat but only four come out the other side. Federal agents Aaron Falk and Carmen Cooper head into the mountains hoping to find their informant still alive.
Review: We reviewed the Australian mystery drama The Dry a couple of years ago. We enjoyed Eric Bana’s first Australian film after moving to Hollywood and found director Robert Connolly’s adaptation of Jane Harper’s novel to be refreshing. That film told the story of a federal investigator who returns home to investigate the murder of a childhood friend, which bears a distinct connection to a crime he himself was accused of decades prior. Bana and Connolly have reunited for the second novel in the Aaron Falk trilogy, Force of Nature. Carrying the subtitle that indicates it as a sequel to The Dry, Force of Nature is a substantially different story. Shifting from a...

Australian writer-director Robert Connolly had a domestic hit in 2021 with The Dry, a slow-burn murder mystery built around Eric Bana’s somber performance as a pensive city cop drawn back to the remote town of his childhood in the middle of a prolonged drought. Bana returns as Aaron Falk in Force of Nature: The Dry 2, which is otherwise a sequel in name alone. The setting this time is a lush and very wet mountain rainforest, drenched by a massive thunderstorm at a key point in the narrative. That makes half the title a complete misnomer.
This is a handsomely produced, solidly acted thriller that’s certainly watchable, though the perplexing subtitle is not its only issue. Unlike its riveting predecessor, it’s absorbing but never quite gripping.

In this next one, five women participate in a hiking retreat but only four come out on the other side. Federal agents Falk and Cooper head into the Victorian mountains hoping to find her still alive. France’s Canal+ Group said that it has increased its stake in multi-territory Asian streaming platform Viu to 30%.
“This additional investment underlines the confidence that Canal+ has in Viu and its teams. It also highlights the determination of Canal+ to make Asia its next growth vector, through its strategic partnership with Pccw, and through an acceleration of growth at Viu, a premium streaming service present in Asia, the Middle East and South Asfrica,” the French group said in a statement. Additionally, it said that its investment in Viu now amounted to some $300 million and that it retains an option to increase its stake to 50%.
In June last year, Canal+ announced that it was to pay $200 million for an initial 26.1% stake in Viu and that it would make a total staggered investment of $300 million.

Based on Jane Harper’s bestseller, this twisty mystery follows Falk as he investigates a dodgy CEO (Richard Roxburgh) and his missing employee (Anna Torv)

The first and perhaps most obvious point to make about Robert Connolly’s sequel to his popular and finely made mystery-thriller The Dry is that it’s not dry at all – it’s very, very wet. The director, again adapting a bestselling novel by Jane Harper, opens with shots of lush wilderness – the film is largely based in the Victorian mountain ranges – and rain-covered leaves.
The first time we see Eric Bana, back again as federal police agent Aaron Falk, he’s doing laps in a swimming pool. His fellow agent, Carmen Cooper (Jacqueline McKenzie), is anxious to solve their latest case – a missing person’s investigation – as flooding might soon hit the region. It is police informant...

"Fans of The Lincoln Lawyer will find other shows like Bosch and Better Call Saul, with complex protagonists and quirky atmospheres, to be captivating legal dramas." "Rake and Damages embrace the seedy elements of defense lawyers, offering dark humor mixed with thrilling courtroom scenes that will keep viewers entertained." "The Good Fight and How to Get Away with Murder not only provide the usual thrills of a legal series, but also address pressing social and cultural issues, making them compelling choices for fans of The Lincoln Lawyer."
After becoming a huge hit for Netflix, people will be looking for more shows like The Lincoln Lawyer. The legal drama is based on the novel by Michael Connolly which was also made into the Matthew McConaughey film of the same name. It manages to bring something new to the well-established genre, particularly through its quirky atmosphere and the skilled performances of its cast.

The Baz Luhrmann Elvis cast is a diverse group of talent, new and old, playing the real-life icons from the era of The King. Luhrmann is the director of such stylistic hits as Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Australia, and The Great Gatsby, known for his vibrant, kinetic visuals and a keen focus on music. Elvis is the director's first biopic about a famed musician, which had a tall order to fill in casting the film. However, with Austin Butler's Golden Globe win and Academy Award nomination for playing Elvis himself, it seems like the casting was quite successful.

The Moulin Rouge! soundtrack offers a wide variety of needle drops spanning multiple genres. The sheer variety of songs on the album is understood given that almost every Baz Luhrmann movie brims with a lively musical energy. Starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, this jukebox musical revolves around the forbidden love affair between a poet and a cabaret dancer in Paris in 1899. The title alludes to the legendary theater, which sets the stage for song-and-dance numbers visualized on vibrant medleys. Meanwhile, the two central protagonists also get to indulge in their own romantic duets.
What’s notable about the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack is how it blends its period setting with modern songs. Even though Paris was in the nascent stages of industrialization in the year that the movie is set in, the characters perform both original compositions and covers of songs by Nirvana, David Bowie, Madonna, Fatboy Slim, U2, Nat King Cole,...

Baz Luhrmann isn’t a fan of sci-fi, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in giving his signature spin on the genre.
The “Elvis” auteur revealed that he is eyeing science fiction films as his next venture.
“It’s not that I don’t like fantasy — it’s just [that] other people have already done it, and they’ve done it really well,” Luhrmann told People magazine. “They’ve got their own language. I’ve kind of found myself in the world of the musical and post-modern melodrama and a particular wavering story.”
He added, “Having said that, as I’ve gotten older, I’m thinking, ‘What would I do with science fiction?’ So I wouldn’t count it out.”
Luhrmann quipped his next project could very well be “Robots the Musical!” The director has directed six films over 30 years, with “Romeo + Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge!” among his career-defining features.
