The Descent arguably made being stuck underground scary again, with intelligent use of the darkness and just a hint of claustrophobia half of the job of scaring the audience was done before the creatures even made an appearance on screen. Beneath may not want to be compared to Neil Marshall’s movie, but as a fan I can’t help but compare the two.

Beneath may claim it is inspired by true events, but we know that this is a statement that is used as a marketing tool to get attention but means nothing when it comes to historical fact. In the movie we see a crew of coal miners trapped 600 feet below the ground.

Recently, CBS released the new,official synopsis/spoilers for their upcoming "The Mentalist" episode 4 of season 7. Two films we've been talking about for a long while, Witching and Bitching and Beneath, will be getting released this June courtesy of IFC Midnight. Read on for details and more.

IFC Midnight announced a June 13 VOD release for Alex de la Iglesia’s horror comedy Witching & Bitching. Witching's ensemble cast boasts some of Spain’s biggest film and TV stars, such as Mario Casas (I Want You), Hugo Silva (Sex, Parties and Lies), and Carmen Maura, who earned a Best Actress award at San Sebastian in 2000 for her role in Commonwealth. Further cast members are Terele Pavez, Carolina Bang, Secun de la Rosa, Pepon Nieto, and Jaime Ordonez.

The flick centers on a band of thieves trying to flee to France after purloining 25,000 gold rings from a Spanish city. A curse is placed on them, and they fall into the clutches of the witches of the Navarrese town of Zugarramurdi.

Screamfest La 2013 kicked off with a bloody bang last night in North Hollywood, CA, at the Laemmle NoHo 7, and we were there to shoot the black carpet, catch the premiere of Ben Ketai's feature Beneath, and hit the opening night party. Read on!

Beneath, directed by Ben Ketai, is poised to make its Screamfest debut in Los Angeles next month and the first batch of photos have been released.  You can find them inside.  Ketai previously helmed 30 Days of Night: Dark Days and he had a short film play to Screamfest audiences a few years back.

His film for Revolver Pictures Company stars Jeff Fahey, Kelly Noonan and Joey Kern.

Production has begun on Revolver Pictures Company’s Beneath. The film comes from Ben Ketai (30 Days Of Night shorts). The full cast has been announced, and the first poster for the film has also been posted.

The film stars Lawnmower Man and Lost alum Jeff Fahey, Kelly Noonan, Joey Kern, Brent Briscoe, Rene Rivera, Mark L. Young, Kurt Caseres, David Shackelford, Ashway Lawver and Jason Masek. Indeed, she inspired many of the works contained in the Ica's recent landmark season, Jack Smith: A Feast for Open Eyes, and even acted as a posthumous beard for his avant-garde manifesto, The Perfect Filmic Appositeness of Maria Montez, which appeared in the Winter 1962 edition of Film Culture and laid out Smith's vision for a new Queer cinema. Goodman Theatre proudly concludes its 2008/2009 season with José Rivera's newest play, Boleros for the Disenchanted, "an epic study of wedded life that is simply?and not so simply?marvelous" (Variety). A true love story inspired by Rivera's parents' courtship and eventual migration from Puerto Rico to Alabama, Boleros for the Disenchanted makes its Chicago premiere directed by Henry Godinez?the Goodman's Resident Artistic Associate who was named 2008 Latino of the Year by the Chicago Latino Network.
