Stefan Ruf’s latest film, Coyote Woman, promises a raw and intense take on the Western genre, drawing characters directly from Cormac McCarthy’s epic historical novel Blood Meridian. This blood-soaked journey into the American frontier will see the notorious scalp hunters Judge Holden and J.J. Glanton brought to life on screen for the first time. With its gritty aesthetic and powerful performances, Coyote Woman is poised to make a significant impact.
Influenced by controversial American Western Soldier Blue and Spaghetti Westerns such as Navajo Joe, Apache Woman, and Scalps, Ruf has crafted a film that blends the brutal realism of historical events with the stylized violence of grindhouse cinema. The screenplay, co-written by Ruf and John Herndon, weaves a tale of vengeance and survival against the harsh backdrop of the Wild West.
At the heart of Coyote Woman is its unique score, composed and performed by Ruf himself.

Stefan Ruf says that Coyote Woman, his follow-up to Motorpsycho Maniacs aka Sex Terrorists on Wheels, was inspired by both Ralph Nelson’s Soldier Blue and Bruno Mattei’s Scalps. That combination of critically acclaimed sadism and grindhouse sleaze certainly caught my attention and all but demanded I give it a review.
Deep Water and his warriors attack a family of settlers, scalping the parents and abducting the two daughters Iris who escapes on the way back to their village, and Cynthia (Jaqueline McNulty; The Great Turkey Miracle) who is adopted into the tribe.
Ten years later, J.J. Glanton and his right-hand man Judge Holden decide they’ve had enough of the Texas Rangers...

"This isn't a job anymore... it's turned into a war." Saban has revealed an official trailer for Hellhound, an action thriller from Thailand made by an American filmmaker named Joshua Dixon originally from Texas. This will be getting a VOD release directly in January for anyone who wants to watch this. Otherwise, just skip it, you won't miss much. Ready to leave his profession behind, Loreno, an assassin, lends help to an old friend, Cetan, and taking one last job in Thailand seeking out a local kingpin. A judgment lapse violently crosses paths with an old colleague Paul. Louis Mandylor stars in this new action thriller - a seasoned hitman on the cusp of retirement finds himself pulled back into the deadly world he is yearning to leave behind. Also starring Vithaya Pansringarm, Van Quattro, Jirayu Yimamphai, Ron Smoorenburg, and Tofan Pirani. Yet another extremely generic action movie to ignore.

We all have those horror movies that scarred us for life. Whether your blood ran cold from the macabre family dinner in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or you found yourself disturbed and nauseous while watching Regan’s head spin in The Exorcist, these terrible frights became the catalyst for a lifetime of loving horror. When I think back to my childhood, it’s films like Tourist Trap, Poltergeist, and even Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toymaker that left deep impressions. It’s like a frigid winter chill you simply can’t shake, or that ominous sensation that descends at nightfall and seems to rattle among the shadows on your wall. It’s certainly hard to imagine the fifth installment in any B-movie franchise having much to offer, but director Martin Kitrosser’s The Toymaker injected the series with a pinch of whimsy, a few drops of absurdity, and...

Season Four of the Austin Television Festival; a Dallas festival goes solo; and Shakespeare comes to Texas Christian University. It’s this week’s Texas Events Roundup. Austin Television FestivalThe Austin Television Festival kicks off today with a “celebration of the medium,” featuring music, meetups, happy hours, and more than 150 panelists, including Robert Rodriguez, (“From Dusk Til Dawn”), Al Jean (“The Simpsons”), Marta Kauffman (“Friends”), and our own Mark Peikert. Also on tap are screenings of current faves like “The Comedians” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” as well as the nostalgic (and one-time groundbreaking) series “Dream On” and “Queer As Folk.” And a pitch competition allows up-and-coming writers and producers to give that all-important “elevator pitch” to a team of industry professionals. Dallas Solo FestThe second annual Dallas Solo Fest runs June 4-14 at the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park. As its name suggests, the festival features short plays performed by solo artists,...

It’s officially Christmas Eve. That means that it’s officially the scariest damn night of the year. You should be afraid, but I suppose if the apocalypse didn’t get you what’s an obese man trying to fit down a chimney with a child labor law violation or two gonna do to you? Welcome to It Came From 1980x. We’ve been following the “evolution” of the Silent Night Deadly Night series starting with a review of the first two movies re-released as a double feature by Anchor Bay and then moving on to the later three sequels that really have jack and shit to do with the rest of the series. That doesn’t mean that we dislike them although my personal preference on the third installment have been documented interwebz wide. This is the final entry in the franchise prior to the reboot/reimaging/remake that...

Brian Jaynes, the director of “Patient Zero”, is also the director of “Humans Versus Zombies”, a film that we reported on last year but I haven’t heard much from since. I think it’s played some film festivals, but according to Amazon.com, will be landing on DVD and Blu-ray on May 8th, 2012 from Hannover House. I really dug the trailers for that film, so I’m definitely looking forward to it. In any case, Jaynes apparently hasn’t gotten the whole zombie/infection kick out of his blood yet, because he’s already released the first teaser trailer for his latest, “Patient Zero”. Check it out below, zombie fans. Two young scientists are swept up in a government plot to suppress the truth about a biological disaster at a genetic research facility. Starring Amanda Phillips, Brandon Slagle, Natalie Wilemon, Jackey Hall, Frederic Doss, Carl Savering and Van Quattro.

If you haven’t been to the Back to Frank Black site, go now and download the audio recordingsof several Millennium cast members reciting poems and stories. The recordings were done in honor of The Curse of Frank Black Week–the site’s Halloween celebration. Sarah-Jane Redmond (Lucy Butler) is probably one of my favorite characters on the show and her contribution includes a recording of a poem about “a malign entity that inhabits a room in a building and whispers to its living occupants.” Van Quattro (Willi Borgsen) tells the “haunting tale of a man filled with fear about the prospect of ghostly apparitions [...]
