James McQuaide served as the VFX Supervisor/Producer and 2nd Unit Director on director Nia DaCosta and producer/writer Jordan Peele's re-imagining of CANDYMAN (2021). For his work on this movie, he received a VES nomination for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.
More recently he was the VFX Supervisor/Producer of Sony's EQUALIZER 3 (2023) for director Antoine Fuqua and Escape Artists Entertainment and MGM's DARK HARVEST (2023) for director David Slade and Matt Tolmach Productions.
McQuaide worked as the Visual Effects Supervisor/Producer on all five titles in the "Underworld" franchise - the 2003 original, along with EVOLUTION (2006), RISE OF THE LYCANS (2009), AWAKENING (2012) and BLOOD WARS (2016). He also served as Executive Producer on each of the movies.
Working in all genres, McQuaide has supervised/produced VFX on over thirty-five feature films including Robert Benton's THE HUMAN STAIN (2003), Mark Pellington's THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES (2002) and HENRY POOLE IS HERE (2008), Neveldine/Taylor's CRANK (2006), CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE (2009) and GAMER (2009), Ryûhei Kitamura's THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN (2008), Robert Luketic's THE UGLY TRUTH (2009), Stuart Beattie's I, FRANKENSTEIN (2014), Lee Krieger's THE AGE OF ADALINE (2015), Ewan MacGregor's AMERICAN PASTORAL (2016), Oliver Daly's A-X-L (2018), William Brent Bell's THE BOY (2016) and BRAHMS: THE BOY II (2019) and Pierre Morel's PEPPERMINT (2018). He has also doubled as Executive Producer and 2nd Unit Director on many of these productions.
From 2003-2019, McQuaide was the EVP, Post/VFX for Lakeshore Entertainment.
As a screenwriter, McQuaide wrote the first drafts of what became Guy Ritchie's SHERLOCK HOLMES (2009) and adapted Sidney Sheldon's novel THE DOOMSDAY CONSPIRACY, both for Warner Bros.
He began his career as Director of Creative Affairs for producer Joel Silver's Silver Pictures.
McQuaide is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
