The social media embargo for Warner Bros.’ “Justice League” has lifted, and the reviews are mixed.
“#JusticeLeague is better than BvS and #SuicideSquad – it’s lean, mean & packed w/ superhero action,” Fandango’s Erik Davis tweeted on Friday. “I dug most of its lighter moments & I think it has one of the best action sequences ever in a DCEU movie. Kevin McCarthy offered a rave: “Bottom line: Justice League is awesome!”
However, the DC Comics superhero mash-up didn’t win over every critic.

Jack and Laurie Beaton from Bakersfield, California, were celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary when bullets rained down at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday.
At 7:46 pm on Sunday night, Jack, 54, shared a Facebook photo of his wife and their friends smiling and drinking beers while enjoying the last day of the country music festivities.
Then, less than two hours later, terror ensued.
The pair initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks until a bullet brushed by Laurie’s shoulder.

This article processes some hard truths many won’t like.
The first part of this narrative, Milestone Is Dead, got a lot of people talking.
Nothing and I mean nothing in that article was new. I’ve written about what and why I thought the holdup at Milestone was many times. The only thing that was new was the title.
Every move Milestone has made I’ve predicted beforehand, and done so in writing.
But as always put a new spin on an old point, and people see something bright and shiny and want to play with it.
Now people are paying attention.
Paying attention to see whether or not I’m going to throw more shade at my former partners. I didn’t throw any in the first place. I told the truth Milestone 2.0 formed almost seven years ago, and there are no books.
Milestone is dead for four reasons.

Film or digital? This is a conversation that has permeated movie geeks for the past 15 or so years. Ever since the early 2000s when Robert Rodriguez shot Once Upon a Time in Mexico on film, and when George Lucas started pioneering the format, the debate has taken over. Which is better, and can anyone really tell the difference? Time has seen digital quickly take over the landscape, with everything from indie flicks to big Marvel Studios blockbusters shooting digitally. From a process standpoint, it tends to be a lot faster, and from a financial standpoint, a bit cheaper. And when 95 percent of the audience can’t tell the difference, why even bother going to film, right?
Filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan, however, have been fighting the good fight, doing what they can to ensure that film survives in today’s growing digital landscape. Nowadays, it seems like it...

Cases of beer were wheeled into the Capitol, cheers rang out in the House chamber and President Trump tweeted an invitation to a celebratory press conference in the White House Rose Garden.
But whatever joy or relief House Republicans felt after capping a seven-year struggle to gut Obamacare, the victory laps were premature. The party-line vote, which squeaked through the House by a 217-213 tally, merely sends the charged issue to the Senate, where the entire process will start from scratch—if it gets off the ground at all.
The Gop repeal-and-replace plan faces daunting hurdles on the other side of the Capitol.

After outcries that took the form of the hashtag #FireColbert gained steam, “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert addressed the elephant in the room on Wednesday night, stopping short of apologizing for a Trump joke that some decried as homophobic. But he also got back to business, doing a bit that thrashed Republicans for a pending House vote expected to repeal large swaths of the Obama Care Act. Yes, House majority leader and California rep Kevin McCarthy — who Colbert pointed out has the “saddest eyes” — said Wednesday that “we have enough votes… It’ll pass.” If passed, it’s a move Colbert.

Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Expendables and maybe even Planet Hollywood, Kurt Russell wanted to unite your favorite heroes. In a new interview promoting his role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the actor reveals that back in the day he pitched a movie where all the big action movie stars of the time -- Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and others --would team up as their "one best," i.e. their most iconic, action hero characters. "It was a little ahead of its time," he tells Fox 5 DC entertainment reporter Kevin McCarthy. For his part, he would have reprised the role of Snake Plissken from Escape from New York. Even though that character probably wouldn't be interested in working with any sort of...

Reporters at the Life press junket last week learned a lot about Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal — and pretty much nothing about outer space.
The actors – who star together in the upcoming sci-fi thriller – couldn’t keep it together during several of their very Nsfw sit-downs, either devolving into a fit of giggles, poking fun at their interviewer or going completely off-topic.

As the manager of a sprawling New Orleans hotel, Rod Taylor has his hands full in this all-star soap opera from 1967. Karl Malden and Kevin McCarthy play two of Taylor’s more unscrupulous guests while Hollywood stalwart Richard Quine (Bell, Book and Candle) handles the directing chores.

Last night I had the opportunity to attend one of the first screenings of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War. I can't give you my full review now but I will say that it was a spectacular jaw-dropping film and in my opinion it's the best Marvel film yet! It also has some of the most insanely awesome fight sequences ever! Seriously, this movie is going to blow minds! Don't believe me? Well, here are several other reactions from the screening to back me up!
First things first: we finally have the perfect Spider-Man and the greatest Peter Parker.
— nived (@devincf) April 9, 2016
Next: Black Panther is incredible. Boseman plays him as both regal and full of rage. The most serious character in the film.
— nived (@devincf) April 9, 2016
The movie is bigger in scale than Winter Soldier but is so much more personal. The stakes are incredibly emotional.

Later, Abrams confirmed to Fox 5 DC reporter Kevin McCarthy that the second spoken word was "will." It didn.t sound like much, but now that we.ve seen the movie and have the full picture in front of us, did Abrams know this by heart because he knew his movie opened with a clear shot at the prequels? Sure, the prequels have their defenders, but there.s no question that the strength of the Star Wars brand was dinged by the ...

Author Nicholas Sparks has another book, The Choice, being adapted into a movie, and Tom Welling has been cast in a lead role. This might just be the biggest thing to happen to Welling since Smallville ended. He really hasn't done a lot since that series.
Sparks is a big deal in Hollywood, and his romantic tales usually turn out to be really good films. Some of the movies based off his work include The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Dear John.
The movie also stars Benjamin Walker as Travis Parker and Teresa Palmer as Gabby Holland. In the story they play neighbors in a small coastal town, and "end up pursuing a relationship neither expected." According to Deadline, Welling will take on the role of Kevin McCarthy, a doctor at his father’s practice who is Gabby’s boyfriend. The love triangle plays out over the course of a decade.

Lionsgate might be missing the guaranteed teen-bait tribulations of The Twilight Saga, but they’re still on track to make millions of young girls uncontrollably weep with their adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ The Choice. As is often the case with the author’s tearjerking tales of woe, the cast are all devastatingly attractive. This week alone we’ve heard news that Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) was attached, and this morning Smallville‘s Tom Welling signed on. In a matter of hours we’ve now learned from The Wrap that True Detective‘s Alexandra Daddario will be joining the movie as well.

With filming set to get underway next week in Wilmington, Smallville alum Tom Welling has landed the starring role in Nicholas Sparks’ latest book-to-screen adaptation, The Choice.
As is the case for the majority of Sparks’ back catalogue, the film will centre on a lovestruck couple — namely Travis Parker (played by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star, Benjamin Walker) and Gabby Holland (Teresa Palmer)— and charts the ups and downs of their relationship over the course of a decade. It will be based on the eponymous 2007 novel.
In terms of Welling’s role, however, Deadline has reported that the American actor will step into the shoes of Kevin McCarthy. Essentially, McCarthy is an esteemed doctor at his father’s practice and effectively makes up the third corner of the love triangle following Travis and Gabby. As such, The Choice tells the tale of the three young lovers, set in North Carolina.

Essentially, McCarthy is an esteemed doctor at his father’s practice and effectively makes up the third corner of the love triangle following Travis and Gabby. As such, The Choice tells the tale of the three young lovers, set in North Carolina.

Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey took the stage last night in front of a sold out crowd at The Harman Center in Washington D.C. for a benefit supporting his Kevin Spacey Foundation, an organization which enables the creation of new work via grants, designs education opportunities through learning, and offers free university places via scholarships. The event was chaired by business leaderphilanthropist Adrienne Arsht, along with honorary co-chairs Congressman Kevin McCarthy R-ca 23rd District, House Majority Leader and Steny Hoyer D-md 5th District, House Minority Whip.

When Kevin Spacey was preparing to play ruthless House majority whip Frank Underwood on House of Cards, he turned to then-actual House majority whip Kevin McCarthy. The Bakersfield, California, Republican vaulted into that leadership job after a record-fast four years in Congress, and now the 49-year-old moves up to the No. 2 spot in the House - majority leader - on Friday. But how much does he resemble Spacey's fictional vote-wrangling whip, Frank Underwood? (Aside from the murder, we mean.) For one thing, you can sometimes hear McCarthy's words coming out of Underwood's mouth. Before shooting started, Spacey shadowed McCarthy on...

Press screenings for X-Men: Days of Future Past took place this week in preparation for the upcoming junket, and now, the first reactions have emerged via Twitter, as they always do. As you’ll see below, there seems to be unanimous praise for the film, with every single Tweet exclaiming how incredible and amazing it is.
While I wasn’t expecting X-Men: Days of Future Past to bomb or anything, I really didn’t think that it would turn out as well as it apparently did. Don’t get me wrong, the film looks great, and I’m extremely excited for it, but I was always a bit skeptical of how Singer would handle all the timelines and the enormous group of mutants that he was dealing with. Things easily could have become messy and muddled and that was always a concern of mine.
It looks like that’s not the case though,...

Kevin Spacey's appearance on ABC's This Week Sunday morning was mildly disturbing, and not just because we'd almost forgotten he doesn't really speak with Frank Underwood's South Carolina* drawl. "We can get done shooting on a day, and I'll come home and turn on the news and think: 'You know, our storylines are not that crazy, they're really not,'" the House of Cards star told host George Stephanopoulos. "Some people feel that 99 percent of the show is accurate, and that the 1 percent that isn't is that you could never get an education bill passed that quickly." In case you didn't get Spacey's point about Congress's fondness for blackmail and murder, he shared a quote from House Majority Whip Representative Kevin McCarthy. "He actually said recently that, 'If I could kill just one member of Congress, I'd never have to worry about another vote,'" Spacey said.*Both Frank...

Beloved political dramas like The West Wing and Lincoln inspire feelings of star-spangled patriotism. The equally gushed-over House of Cards, which features Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, a ruthless, power-obsessed politician, elicits different emotions. "Last year, we were in D.C. filming our spoof for the White House Correspondents' Dinner," says Beau Willimon, the show's creator. "And [House Majority Whip] Kevin McCarthy told us jokingly, 'If I could just kill one member of Congress, my job would be a whole lot easier.'"

On Friday morning's Fox & Friends, however, Fox News movie critic Kevin McCarthy ignored 12 Years a Slave...

Alfonso Cuaron.s Gravity is generating serious passion in Toronto. Start a conversation at a party or in a line about the .best. movie a person has seen, and nine times out of 10, they reply, .You mean besides Gravity?. The film.s a bona-fide game changer. And the two most passionate voices I.ve encountered supporting the film belong to my colleagues: Houston.s own Jake Hamilton (@JakesTakes) and Kevin McCarthy of the nationally syndicated Fox & Friends and Fox 5 in Washington, D.C. We.ve been geeking out over Gravity for months, and were thrilled to be able to see it in Toronto. The movie.s so mind-bogglingly special, so groundbreaking, that I had to assemble the Gravity crew to gush on a quick podcast about why we were transfixed by Cuaron.s masterpiece. I guarantee you will not hear a more spirited discussion on Gravity . at least, not until...

Ned Vaughn has resigned from his post as SAG-AFTRA's executive vice president and announced he's running for a Los Angeles-area state Assembly seat. The Alabama-born actor, who helped cement the SAG-AFTRA merger, had earlier announced his plan not to seek reelection but indicated he would see out the remainder of his term, which expires at the convention in September. "Exciting day! Announced I'll be running for CA Assembly in the 66th District to represent L.A.'s beautiful South Bay," Vaughn tweeted Thursday. Vaughn is a Republican and boasts the support of Congressman Kevin McCarthy, the Majority Whip in the House, on his website. In a statement, SAG-AFTRA said the Evp's duties and responsibilities will be assumed by Secretary-Treasurer Amy Aquino until an election for the position is held next month. SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard wished his fellow Unite For Strength leader well. "Ned has been...

Gop Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) posted a photo on Monday showing him and fellow Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) with the latter's supermodel niece, Kate Upton, on her 21st birthday.
McCarthy captioned his photo with an appropriate hashtag, writing, "With Congressman Fred Upton and his niece, Kate. We are celebrating Kate's .21st Birthday #kateupton."
Upton described his niece as a "great gal" back in 2012, when she drew widespread attention for her appearance on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. The Michigan Republican joked that several colleagues on Capitol Hill had ribbed him about his familial tie to the model.
"I got a lot of my colleagues that are asking if I was adopted," Upton said.

Iron Man 3 is generating some serious buzz ahead of its U.S. debut next week, but could this third installment in the popular series be the end of the line for stand-alone adventures featuring ol’ Shellhead? According to Gwyneth Paltrow, the answer is yes. Kevin McCarthy’s Nerd Tears website recently caught up with Robert Downey Jr. and Paltrow, and the discussion covers a range of topics. When McCarthy gets around to asking Paltrow about doing her own Pepper Potts superhero spin-off, she casually mentions that she thinks they’re done with Iron Man movies. The quote occurs around the 6:40 mark of the video – and it’s hard to tell if Paltrow’s just speculating or coyly dropping a bombshell on fans. My personal take is that these are her...

Below is Geek Nation's video package from the Iron Man 3 Us junket. It features interviews with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow and the very enthusiastic Kevin McCarthy asks a few interesting questions. But without a doubt the highlight is Paltrow's response to being asked about a fourth movie around the 6 minute mark. "I don’t think there’s going to be [an Iron Man 4]. I think we’re done with Iron Man." If you watch the vid it certainly sounds like she's being sincere, and at least does believe that there won't be another one. Of course Downey Jr. has hinted as much too -- is it possible that Paltrow knows that he's declined to sign a new contract? Iron Man 3 would definitely serve as a conclusion to the character's on-screen adventures..at least for the foreseeable future.

As March nears an end, it will be noted for losing three horror novelists:
From Locus:

Silva is best known for editing influential magazine The Horror Show, which ran from 1982-1991 . Silva won a World Fantasy Award in 1988 in the special, non-professional category for his work on the magazine. He also edited anthologies, including Post Mortem: New Tales of Ghostly Horror (1989) and Dead End: City Limits (1991), both with Paul F. Olson, as well as books collecting the best work from The Horror Show. From 1997-2002 he and Olson co-edited industry newsletter Hellnotes, for horror professionals and fans. In 2004, the newsletter was revived as a website.

We may never know how many Netflix viewers tune in for House of Cards, but BuzzFeed reports that in the past two weeks, the show has developed quite the following among staffers and journalists on Capitol Hill. They're particularly impressed with the show's accuracy, which showrunner Beau Willimon attributes to "a crapload of research." During trips to D.C., the show's production designer, Donald Burt, obsessively photographed the Capitol, down to the sprinkler units, and writers and producers met with a variety of staffers, journalists, and lawmakers, including Senator Chuck Schumer. Kevin Spacey also sat down with Kevin McCarthy, the real House majority whip, who invited him to a closed-door House Republican conference meeting, as well as House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer. "Politics is done so poorly so often, and we were dead-set to get it right," explains Jay Carson, a former press secretary to Tom Daschle who serves as...

I tend to get some cool stuff that comes through my inbox on occasion, and this just so happens to be one of them. Apparently a study was conducted about films which can help people in other countries learn English. According to the research conducted, the Harry Potter films ended up being the best films for people to learn the language. Full details inside.
The study was conducted by the Kaplan International Colleges and they had some interesting results. They've put together a nice succinct press release about their study, which will make way more sense than if I try to paraphrase, so I'm just going to post it here for your perusal. If you don't feel like reading, they also sent over an infographic with all the details as well:
