HBO’s The Wire is widely celebrated as one of the best TV shows ever made. Spanning five seasons, the show, created by David Simon, offered a deep dive into Baltimore’s complexities. It explored themes like the drug trade, labor unions, political corruption, public schools, and the media, all while showing the intertwined systems within the city.

Up on Variety about a year ago, there was an interesting interview with the German distributor of the Expendables and John Wick movies. Fred Kogel, who runs Leonine Studios, noted that all the top action heroes now, Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford, are the same ones we had in the eighties and nineties. But with Stallone and Ford in their late seventies, who will be the new action stars when the icons are done with the genre? Liam Neeson’s action career can’t go on forever, and Bruce Willis has, sadly, had to retire. For his part, Kogel doesn’t believe distributors and studios have done enough to build up a new crop of action heroes, noting that for the older stars, there was “a great deal of identification with the type of the actor, with the physicality of the actor so that you could relate to that.

Actress and pop star Hailee Steinfeld is engaged to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the couple announced Friday.
Allen revealed the news in a social media post Friday morning, which featured a photo of the football star down on one knee, framed by a floral arch and candle-lined walkway. Steinfeld posted the same photo on her own social media, which boasts over 20 million followers on Instagram. The NFL reposted the picture later the same day, congratulating the happy couple on their engagement.
Per Allen’s caption, the proposal occurred Nov. 22, last Friday, when the Bills enjoyed a bye week.
Allen and Steinfeld were first linked in the spring of 2023, when they were photographed dining together in New York City. The football star confirmed the relationship several months later.
Steinfeld, well-loved for her music and acting chops alike, was last seen reprising her fan-favorite Hawkeye role of archer Kate Bishop in last year’s The Marvels.

Being Erik Killmonger in Black Panther was a task for Micheal B. Jordan ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 2019, the actor opened up about the emotional toll of his Black Panther role, revealing that he turned to therapy to shake off the villain’s dark shadow.
“I went to therapy,” Jordan shared during a SuperSoul Conversations chat with Oprah Winfrey. “I started talking to people, starting unpacking a little bit.” While his Killmonger performance wowed audiences and critics alike, embodying the character came with a heavy cost.
So, what made playing Killmonger such a mental maze? For Jordan, it was the isolation. He cut himself off to tap into the villain’s pain and rage. “I was by myself, isolating myself,” he admitted. “Erik, his childhood was pretty lonely. He didn’t have people he could talk to about this place called Wakanda that didn’t exist.” Jordan dove headfirst into Killmonger’s world,...

Creed Creed, 10pm, ITV, Monday November 25
Forget Rocky, it's Sly Stallone who proved he was one of the ultimate comeback kids with his Golden Globe-winning supporting turn in Ryan Coogler's Rocky sequel. The story might be a new one - Apollo Creed's illegitimate son wants his dad's old rival to train him up - but it draws on elements of the original, including the inevitable climactic fight, without being slavish to them. Michael B Jordan is no lightweight in the acting department either and brings plenty of nuance to his character as he trains himself up at the same time as he strikes up a romance with his neighbour Bianca (Tessa Thompson), who is facing challenges of her own. Coogler takes this seriously - and so will you.
Knives Out, 4Seven, 9pm, Wednesday, November 27
Rian Johnson's whodunnit murder mystery is very much in the Agatha Christie vein - complete.

Spoilers for "Gladiator II" follow.
It makes for a refreshing change of pace that one of the biggest films of the year doesn't come with a costumed crime fighter or Tom Cruise leaping small buildings in a single bound. Instead, all eyes are on Paul Mescal squaring up against a rhino and the corrupt Roman Empire in "Gladiator II." Harking back to the big-screen epics of old just like the film that preceded it, Ridley Scott's return to the era of togas and treacherous rulers has plenty of sword and sandal based action, but there are some beats that might feel familiar to both Marvel and DC fans in regards to certain characters.
While "Gladiator II" director Ridley Scott may have turned down some superhero movies, there are a few heroes and villains in his latest film that mirror twists and turns reminiscent of some highly-talked about moments in comic book movie history.

Released in 2009, Dragonball Evolution, a live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s celebrated series, embodies the “live-action curse”. The movie was atrocious and proved that not every popular series needs to be adapted in the live-action format. Even when it was first released, it garnered bad reviews for how terrible it was.

What makes the movie a topic of discussion once again after all these years is Dragon Ball Daima. One of the recent episodes of the series had a scene that could have been a reference to the live-action movie. While it’s not great to be reminded of the horrors of Dragonball Evolution, it’s good to see every Daima episode being conscious of the history of the franchise as it makes these subtle references.

Actor Denzel Washington was someone several younger stars like Ethan Hawke looked up to. Given his cinematic legacy, it’s easy to see why he’s served as an inspiration for so many later generations of actors as well. But who, if anyone, would Washington consider to be the next him?
What Denzel Washington has said about the ‘next Denzel’ Denzel Washington | Noam Galai/Getty Images
Washington already knew how influential role models could be. Years prior to becoming one himself, the Training Day star looked up to the late Sidney Poitier. Back in Washington’s youth, there weren’t too many African-American stars at the time. Poitier was one of the only black stars for Washington to learn from.

Conclave director Edward Berger, once linked to the Bond and Bourne franchises, is instead making a time travel thriller with Elvis star Austin Butler.
We’ve spent the last few months covering various reports that suggested Edward Berger was destined for a major action franchise once he’s fnished making The Ballad Of A Small Player, a gambling drama starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton, for Netflix.
The filmmaker is about to release Conclave, with his papal drama boasting a heavyweight cast and already picking up the kind of buzz that will likely see it as a a contender in a few weeks when various awards nominations start to get handed out.
Speaking of awards, it was the clutch of Oscars that Berger’s All Quiet On The Western Front won in 2022 that really positioned the filmmaker in a space where he would be repeatedly linked to two of cinema’s biggest action franchises.

Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend dismissed a federal lawsuit against him on Thursday, in which she had accused the actor of assault and defamation.
In an email, her attorneys said the suit had been settled “very favorably.”
The Marvel and “Creed III” star was convicted in December 2023 of two misdemeanor counts for assaulting the woman, Grace Jabbari, in the back seat of an SUV. He was sentenced earlier this year to attend domestic violence counseling.
Jabbari sued him in March, alleging that he had defamed her by continuing after the guilty verdict to maintain that he had “never laid [his] hands on a woman” in an interview with “Good Morning America.”
Attorneys for both parties filed a joint notice with the court on Thursday, stating that “all claims against Defendant in the above-captioned action are hereby dismissed with prejudice.”
One of Jabbari’s attorneys, Brad Edwards, said Friday: “That is how every case ends after it is resolved.

The Fire Inside tells the story of Olympic boxer Clarissa “T-Rex” Shields (Ryan Destiny) and her coach Jason Crutchfield (Brian Tyree Henry). Shields’ accomplishments in the ring are a matter of public record and she was the subject of a documentary. The film, from director Rachel Morrison and a script by Barry Jenkins, focuses on the relationship between Shields and her coach that sports fans never got to see.
“This is an inspirational sports movie until it becomes an inspirational life movie,” Morrison said. “The heart of it is the life part. A lot of it outside the ring is telling his side of the story too.”
The film is the first time Henry played a real, living figure like Crutchfield, he said. Henry said he was also inspired by the fact that Crutchfield moved Shields into his house.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.

Up-and-comers Orlando Norman and Spence Moore II along with Heidi Grace Engerman and Cassady McClincy Zhang are starring in Out Come the Wolves, an indie drama which is marking the directorial debut of producer Danny Peykoff.
Sam Rechner, West Mulholland and Curran Walters are also cast in the feature that began shooting in Portland, Oregon this week. Big Newport Studios, founded by Peykoff, is financing and backing the production, which is also the company’s inaugural project.
Set against the East Bay punk music scene in the mid 1990s, Wolves is a story of grit and dreams in a world of violence and desperation. Norman, Moore, Engerman and Zhang play a tight-knit group of high school friends vying to escape the blighted city in which they live. Getting away isn’t so easy, however, when the streets are full of metaphorical predators and prophets at every turn and the story,...

For a guy who broke out playing a lovelorn, prank-playing paper salesman, John Krasinski has done all right for himself. Ok, a lot of people still crushed on his quirky looks and clever pranks, but to be named People’s Sexiest Man Alive is on another level entirely.
Cheekily speaking on his reaction to the title, John Krasinski said, “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts. Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”
One might think that a middle-aged man being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive would be an anomaly, but it’s actually pretty common for someone in at least their mid-40s to get the title. In fact,...

People Magazine announced its 2024 “Sexiest Man Alive” during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Over the years, many famous men, including a former soap star, have graced the cover.
Soap’s Sexiest Men Alive
The only ex-daytime soap actor ever named People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” was All My Children alum Michael B. Jordan, who took the title in 2020. His post-soap career has included Black Panther, the Creed movies, and 2013’s Fruitvale Station.
Although technically, Brad Pitt did appear in two episodes of Another World back in 1987. Apparently, it was his first speaking role on TV. Pitt would go on to achieve Holywood A-List status and be named “Sexiest Man Alive” twice — in 1995 and 2000.
However, a number of soap stars have appeared in the issues over the years. The Young and the Restless star Shemar Moore was featured in the 2017 issue. He famously told his mom that he’s “still got it.

November 22 will be a massive day for Denzel Washington. His role in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” has thrust him into the heart of the Oscar race for Best Supporting Actor, and the film opens in theaters on the same day his son Malcolm Washington’s “The Piano Lesson,” which he produced, streams on Netflix.
But even with his recent hot streak, Washington is eyeing an exit strategy from the film industry. In a recent appearance on Australian “Today” (via Variety), the two-time Oscar winner explained that he has become extremely selective about roles in the final chapter of his career.
“For me, it’s about the filmmakers. Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best,” Washington said. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.

Exclusive: After selling his short story “Bomb” to 20th late last year, with Ridley Scott attaching to direct the action thriller, Kevin McMullin has been tapped to script an English-language remake of A Bittersweet Life, the ultra-violent South Korean noir from writer-director Kim Jee-woon, for Netflix and Chernin Entertainment.
McMullin comes to the project following a competitive writer search for adapting this property. Details as to the creative direction for the remake are under wraps. But the original film, released in 2005, starred Lee Byung-hun as Kim Sun-woo, an enforcer and manager for a hotel owned by a powerful crime boss, Kang (Kim Yeong-cheol). When Kang tasks Sun-woo with monitoring his young girlfriend Hee-soo (Shin Min-a), who he suspects of infidelity, Sun-woo finds himself in a moral quandary when he decides not to kill her and her lover, despite catching them together. Denzel Washington may have just let slip that early development is underway on “Black Panther 3,” and honestly who could blame him? The actor said that Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed 2018’s Oscar-winning “Black Panther” and the 2022 sequel “Wakanda Forever,” is writing a role for him in a third “Black Panther” movie — which has not yet been announced by Marvel.
The revelation came during a conversation with The Today Show Australia in which Washington, who is next seen stealing scenes in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” said he likely only has a few roles left in his career. The 69-year-old performer laid out his game plan for the next few projects.

Denzel Washington could make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in "Black Panther 3," as the actor has revealed to the "Today" show. His part in the ongoing saga remains unknown, but the two-time Oscar winner says that Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first two "Black Panther" films, is penning a part specifically for him.
"I'm about to play Othello at 70," Washington told "Today" while talking about what the future holds for his career. "After that I'm playing Hannibal. After that, I've been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler's writing a part for me in the next 'Black Panther.'" The seasoned actor noted in the same interview that he's choosing his next films carefully, as he will probably only be able to make so many more in his lifetime. "At this point in my career, I'm only interested in working with the best," Washington explained.

Playing a boxer seems to be a prerequisite for an actor in their journey to become an action star. Will Smith played Muhammed Ali in Ali while Mark Wahlberg played Micky Ward in The Fighter. Though Sylvester Stallone had his breakthrough with the Rocky franchise, the greatest boxer in Hollywood reportedly even bested him.
Stallone recounted the filming process of Rocky IV where the legendary actor Dolph Lundgren played Ivan Drago. While Drago was one of the most dangerous opponents that Rocky Balboa ever faced, Lundgren himself was reportedly no less, punching Stallone in the chest on his insistence, which reportedly led him to be hospitalized.

The closer one looks at "Bones," the more one begins to wonder if everything really does come back to Hart Hanson's long-lived rom-com/gnarly crime procedural. From multiple "Breaking Bad" actors showing up as guest stars to Kevin Yagher, the legendary creature designer who co-wrote Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," playing a key creative role behind-the-scenes on the series with his brother Chris Yagher, it seems as though our plane of existence is merely a tangled web with "Bones" at the center. Were the show to somehow be lost to the ravages of time like so much older media has been, it's possible our reality as we know it would collapse. Clearly, we should stop playing Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and start playing Six Degrees of Bones instead.

Once you've conquered Hollywood by becoming one of the most respected and celebrated actors in the industry, what else is there to do but become a celebrated director, too? That's exactly what Denzel Washington did. Having received his first Oscar nomination for playing South African activist Steve Biko in Richard Attenborough's 1987 effort "Cry Freedom", Denzel then went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in what Rotten Tomatoes maintains is Washington's best film, 1989's "Glory."
While "Glory," which currently has a 95% Rt score, was certainly a high point for Denzel, the man still had decades of hits and critically-acclaimed classics ahead of him. After that 1989 triumph, for example, he went on to earn another Oscar for his role as corrupt LAPD detective Alonzo Harris in 2001's "Training Day." But between winning Hollywood's highest honor twice, Washington was also proving his ability to...

Young actor Harry Collett is best known for his work on House of the Dragon, where he plays Jacaerys Velaryon, aka Jace. Jace had a frustrating time in the show's second season. He has his own dragon, Vermax, that he can ride, but as the son of future queen Rhaenyra Targaryen he was discouraged from riding it lest a political rival shoot him out of the sky. His mother burdened him with the knowledge of a prophecy which every Targaryen ruler must work to fulfill, and he feels his birthright is threatened by a bunch of a new peasant dragon-riders who are putting their feet up on tables and using the flatware wrong and generally classing down the place.

Atlanta rap superstar Lil Jon’s epic performance of his classic “Turn Down for What” during the Georgia roll call at the Democratic National Convention in August wouldn’t have happened without veteran social impact strategist Ashley Spillane. After seeing the “from the window to the Walz” memes about Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential pick Tim Walz (a play on Lil Jon’s 2003 hit “Get Low”) go viral, Spillane got to work. Drawing on both her pop culture and political connections, Spillane — who served as president of Rock the Vote, the nonprofit formed in 1990 to increase turnout among 18 to 24-year-old voters — was able to join forces with Lil Jon’s longtime publicist Tamar Juda as well as key members of the Harris and DNC team to create one of the political season’s buzziest moments.
Linking pop culture to civic responsibility has long been a sweet spot for Spillane, who founded her D.

Michael B. Jordan is one of the most exciting actors of his generation. Ever since breakout role as Wallace in "The Wire," Jordan has left a mark on every project he's been, with memorable roles in everything from soaps like "All My Children," to indie work like "Fruitvale Station" and even superhero fare like his excellent job as Killmonger in "Black Panther" — truly, every time Jordan collaborates with Ryan Coogler, they produce magic, which is why we absolutely can't wait for "Sinners." Then there's his directorial work in "Creed III," a fantastic film that brings anime aesthetics and rivalries to the popular boxing franchise.
Jordan is an example of why overnight success isn't really a thing with actors. Sure, there are roles that can give an actor a much bigger audience (and paycheck), but those don't happen in the blink of an eye. Instead, they are the product of years...

Did You Know Michael B Jordan Fell Into Depression For A Marvel Movie Like Heath Ledger’s Joker? (Photo Credit – Instagram/YouTube)
Actors often undergo intense physical and mental preparation to fully embody their roles, pushing themselves to the edge to deliver compelling performances. While this may help them perform successfully, it can affect their mental well-being, as seen with Heath Ledger, who famously portrayed the Joker in The Dark Knight. Ledger immersed himself so deeply in the character’s chaotic and dark mindset that it affected him mentally. Although his portrayal was critically acclaimed, the process left him in depression until his tragic death. Something similar happened with another A-list star, Michael B. Jordan, who also fell into depression.
He explained the intensity of the role and how he felt miserable after the movie. Jordan said, “It was one of those things that I didn’t know what was going on.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming at Durdle Door in Dorset, England, and Joseph Quinn's Johnny Storm/Human Torch has been spotted in full costume.
Based on what little we see here, Johnny walks down the beach alone before moodily standing on the coast while watching the tide come in. It's hard to say where this is meant to be doubling for, though the Torch may have found his way to the UK. The iconic tourist location may also be doubling for an alien planet.
If we're lucky, the rest of Marvel's First Family will also be spotted suited up in the coming weeks. The only other member of the team spotted since shooting started is The Thing who, at the time, was being brought to life with a practical costume.
Many movies and TV shows have been shot at Durdle Door; among them are Doctor Who...
