Giuseppe Andrews is easily my favorite director working today (right up there with good ol' Takeshi Kitano and David Lynch). His films feel so far removed from anything and everything coming out; I mean, seriously, you can draw your own weak conclusions and compare him to John Waters and Harmony Korine and so on, but not even they were this wacked-out and ridiculous and hilarious. He continues to innovative and make truly fine movies which only be described as "comedies for no one"... I really don't know who these films would appeal to except for a very, very small section of open-minded people. Luckily, I'm one of those people and I felt compelled to write this.
Written, directed, edited, scored, etc. by Andrews (with production by Adam Rifkin/Rif Coogan, who directed the fantastic Psycho Cop 2 amongst other films...), this film was made for $1000 and is a lot like all the other Andrews films in that it's hilarious, sparse (the entire film takes place in a hotel room except for a few outside shots in a trailer park and one shot in an apartment), and mindbogglingly brilliant. Yet it's also a lot different than his other films, in that there's a serious social commentary running underneath the hilarity and bizarre situations. Basically, the plot is, a cow is staying in a hotel room and everyone wants steak, including 2 people who are going to kill themselves, and they try to eat the cow but they end up hanging out with the cow while people are killing people because towels and orthopedic shoes are telling them to. Doesn't sound like much? Trust me, it is. It's almost too entertaining; it's extremely overwhelming, and you'll have to watch this one more than once to really catch all the brilliant elements at work here.
If you want to see a modern-day filmmaker who is unlike anyone else working today, this kid is an absolute genius. For fans of surreal, artful, mind-bending cinema only.
