My Little Minx: A (sort of) Silent Lesbian Farce

The title is sort of a giveaway, but I wasn't prepared for the peculiar charm and successful execution of this unusual experiment by Nica Noelle. Clearly not for all tastes, it grabbed me not unlike the way the Oscar-winning THE ARTIST from France did several years back - quirky but wonderful.

It's not just silent films that Nica is sending up in MY LITTLE MINX; she also lightly mocks the clichés of lesbian films while also delivering the goods as to hot sex scenes between attractive genre stars. It's a delicate balance and hopefully folks besides me will discover this miniature treasure.

Several gimmicks are being juggled here: first the porn genre's storyline setup material is delivered in black & white, silent footage, with those distressed film lines simulating random scratches to the print (though this is strictly video chicanery -no film print at all). I'm not crazy about that last gimmick -it's fake & unnecessary Tarantino attitude, but so minor here that I give Nica a pass.

The actresses strike poses and flutter around in their period '20s costumes/hats and shoes, emulating the exaggeration of silent era screen acting. Cleverly written inter-titles carry the dialog, just as in a vintage silent film.

So far so good, and the next gimmick is crucial -once the set-up is completed and the segue (usually with a clichéd smooch) goes from story to wall-to-wall sex sequence, Nica in each of the four mandatory sex segments switches to color and sound. Action progresses naturally through soft-core to hardcore lesbian sex and plays out pretty much the same as any of her lesbian-themed videos. But with the unusual costuming and the actresses remaining in character (likely to exclaim "Oh my goodness!" rather than standard porn-speak of "f*ck me harder!" and the like) the film creates its own unique charm. I wouldn't want to see a hundred such videos, but this singular video hits the spot.

Final gimmick is Nica's own invention and perhaps her secret weapon. The linking factor for the farce is Aubrey Addams in the title role -the cute little blonde playing a servant is given a lecture by innkeeper Nina Hartley at the outset to behave and under no circumstance flirt with any of her guests -lesbian couples arriving for a big dance party. Instead, Aubrey amusingly comes on to almost every woman who arrives and even plays practical jokes on them, looking conspiratorially at the camera. She also looks different than the others -more modern in both visage and clothing.

First couple is Indigo Sweet and Sinn Sage who squabble before reconciling and making love. It's a sexy opening vignette, with Sinn getting all sweaty and shiny due to her exertions, and even some foot fetish thrown in. Odd mistake/oversight is that Indigo Sweet is not credited on screen at all, even though her role is equal to the other players.

Vignette #2 has petite blonde Lindsey Meadows and Satine Phoenix, latter dominating the footage, though Meadows's protruding clit challenges her for dominant contrast.

Third segment is mixed-combo action with young Black actress Mz. Platinum matched against mature Randi James, with extreme skin tone contrast. The duo broke up a week ago, but are attending together since they're not allowed to come to the party alone. This scene has some nice touches - Randi getting Platinum's crotch extremely wet, humping her with her knee and ending with mutual masturbation.

Finale spotlights Nina Hartley, who has her favorite Michelle Lay as her personal guest and they get it on in an experienced way. Each segment has someone declaring (in the inter-titles) a variation of "That Little Minx!", and in this one Aubrey sure earns it by impersonating a bellboy wearing a mustache before the gals see through her ruse. Lay pleads for the kid to be forgiven and Nina relents and the veterans have at it, Aubrey politely leaving.

Noelle's conceit is that Aubrey, despite a lengthy list of gonzo credits, has no sex scenes and does not even disrobe in the video (she's shown posing naked only in the DVD's slide show section). Now that's tease for you!
