Geoffrey Carr's life spirals out of control after his wife and step-daughter are kidnapped by rogue IRA members. Unable to pay the ransom, he faces the choice of either dismantling his life or gambling with the lives of his family members.

A banker relocates to manage a small-town branch, helping businesses thrive. Though his wife stays in London and begins an affair, he accepts it gracefully when confronted, hoping to reunite.

Geoffrey and Frances' marriage is on the rocks after she realizes she only married him for his money. But workaholic Geoffrey is in love with Frances and decides to buy her love by acquiring for her the Irish mansion she grew up in.

Frances and her step-daughter are kidnapped by rogue IRA members. Hopeless, Geoffrey asks for the help of an insurance man while the police try to track down a boy who is the only eyewitness to the crime.

As Geoffrey scrambles to raise the three million pound ransom the police try to get information out of their only eyewitness - a boy.

Tensions rise between the kidnappers due to Kate's paranoia. Meanwhile, Geoffrey, contemplating his options, gets closer to Frances' sister and learns more about his wife then he wanted to know.

With a drop arranged, the police are eager to get in on the action but Geoffrey and Simon don't want them involved and set up a complex scheme to distract them.

After the fiasco with the drop, Geoffrey takes the investigation into his own hands and decides to track down the kidnappers himself.
