NYCFC sign Danny Bedoya

Blues add depth to their growing squad

Well, it came at the absolute death of the summer transfer window. But New York City FC have added a third player at the very last second in the summer transfer window.

Initially courting him a few weeks ago after seeing his talents in a scrimmage, NYCFC have signed Long Island Rough Riders midfielder Danny Bedoya.

Bedoya, 24, was born in Colombia, but relocated to Queens, NY when he was 8 years old. From the onset, he became involved with soccer locally and would go on to play with St John’s University in addition to coming up through the rival New York Red Bulls academy system. After featuring for both NYRB’s academy and USL affiliate and spending some time with New York Cosmos B, Bedoya would move on to the Rough Riders where he’s played since.

When it comes to positioning, he is expected to play “between Maxi [Moralez] and Jesus [Medina],” according to head coach Domé Torrent. Though that isn’t extremely specific, it seems like he’s a more box-to-box player in the midfield akin to Yangel Herrera, or maybe even a winger. Either way, we’re excited to have him.

Bedoya will fill a reserve roster spot for now, so getting minutes will be difficult for now. But should anyone go down with an injury or otherwise start playing poorly, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that the Colombian born, American made midfielder can get a chance to make his mark.

Welcome to the Club, Danny!
