My name is Eric — I am a Research Scientist at Google in the Blended Interaction Research & Devices (BIRD) Lab. I work on enhancing Spatial Computing and Mixed Reality through new input & interaction techniques, real-time AI-mediated experiences, and augmented human perception.
Prior to Google, I completed my Ph.D. at Stanford University, working with Prof. Sean Follmer in the SHAPE Lab. My research at Stanford broadly focused on augmenting haptic experiences in VR through tangible displays and perceptual illusions. My thesis was on the modeling, control, and applications of redirected reaching in VR.
Before this, I received my M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford with a concentration in Mechatronics, and my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida with a minor in Mathematics.
During my PhD, I also had the opportunity to intern in the EPIC group at Microsoft Research and the Haptic Displays team at Meta Reality Labs Research.
