Send us a confidential tip using SecureDrop

SecureDrop is a highly secure submission system which allows you to send information to The Economist without revealing your identity or location. This heavily encrypted platform is intended for communication not suitable by other channels, such as letters, email, or text.

The privacy of the communication depends on both your computer and network being uncompromised: for this reason, we recommend that you check your computer for malware and use a secure, non-surveilled network. We also recommend that you use a device you own, not one owned by your employer.

Our SecureDrop servers are located within The Economist's premises physically, have a separate internet connection, and are only accessed via computers which are not and never have been connected to other networks.

When we receive your submission, they will be assessed by a member of our investigation team. If they take an interest, the information will be shared to a typically small set of relevant correspondents and editors. We recommend that you delete any messages we send to you through the system as soon as you have read them, which will also delete them from our servers.

If you provide identifying information in the documents, this will not automatically be redacted. If this is a concern, we ask that you do not include such information.

While SecureDrop is regularly checked by independent experts for security vulnerabilities, there is no guarantee that it is fully secure.
