A article stated that Klay had to ‘adjust’ his game. I think he did, and on the offensive side of the ball, that was a mistake.
Perhaps believing he had to prove his legs fully recovered, his dribble-drives to the basket greatly increased. Coinciding with that, his shooting percentage has gone down, and his turnovers increased.
Monday night (2/12/24), Klay was more of the set shooter he used to be, and he went 11 for 19. Yay! He looked like the guy who once scored 60 points in a game where he dribbled only 11 times. Klay, along with TJD and Stef, was why the Dubs won by 20. Stef was hitting 3’s to keep the W’s up by 10, but when Klay joined in at the end of the game (with set shots, no less), the Dubs were up by 20.
On defense, Klay, like other mortals over 30, has lost some quickness, but speed was never his calling card. Hard nosed, physical defense, intelligently taking away driving angles, was his forte, and when Klay imposes his defensive will, he still is one of the better defensive 2’s in the league. He just need to recognize it will take him more time to get into defensive position.
On offense, Klay should just be Klay. Dribble less. Shoot more.
