If you read the Boregonian article, it surmises that it's probably to do with Covid isolation and empty stadiums.....right.

Read on, and you see him talk about why he came to OSU.

So maybe the 'why' is no longer there for him? Seems the more likely possibility to me than the former. Hopefully this is just an isolated Portal departure.
