ISHS Acta Horticulturae 188: V International Symposium on Medicinal, Aromatic and Spice Plants RESPONSE OF AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ON PRODUCTION OF FLOWERS IN PYRETHRUM AT KODAIKANAL (INDIA)
Authors:   S. Mohandass, V. Sampath, R. Gupta
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1986.188.19
Abstract:
The response of flowering in pyrethrum due to ambient temperatures was analysed at different months of three consecutive years at Kodaikanal hills in south India. It showed a wide range of fluctuation in mean maximum and minimum temperatures. In general the plants exposed to lower minimum temperature produced a larger number of flowers (r = -0.5426**) with higher dry matter content and total pyrethrins. The cumulative effect of low temperature combined with the average temperature (accumulated degree days) was found to exert a positive influence on the flowering through bud initiation (r = -0.7753**).
