To qualify this review, I will say at the forefront: I am not a die hard Baseball fan; if it on the telly, I'll watch it for a bit. But scores, RBIs, homers, etc... ? It doesn't affect me either way.
However the story of Lou Gehrig has always caught my attention because I AM into medicine and associated topics.
So... to be honest, I was a bit hesitant about reading this because I didn't want the baseball info to be over my head and my interest lost before page 10.
I NEVER lost interest. The writer has a wonderful ability to throw out the info but keeping it straightforward and understandable for the layman.
His admiration for Lou Gehrig also came across but not to the point where he sounded like a love sick puppy.
Lou came across as a three dimensional character - which I would suspect is hard to do as he was such a quiet man.
I was hoping I'd find Mr. Eig had written another book but I am out of luck...
On an off note - I was a bit disappointed when I found out Lou' and Dr. Paul O'Grady number to about 200 and are held by one owner. I wonder what we could learn from them?
