Stars to avoid

It's the NBA trade and free agent season, and this year there are several stars available to right bidders. But my advice is to not take the bait. Here are the stars to avoid:

Kyrie Irving - He's an unrestricted free agent and an incredible player. Stay away. He has been a team and culture killer everywhere he's gone. (OK, not Dallas but he wasn't there long enough and the team failed badly after he arrived.)

James Harden - Player option. I think he opted out of it. He best days are well behind him and he's not a great team player who can't play defense.

Kawhi Leonard - I'm sure the Clippers would love to find a trading partner for him. Sure, he's great when healthy, but he's not healthy enough. And besides, he doesn't make much of a commitment to any team he's been on.

Russel Westbrook - He's a very talented athlete who never adjusted his game to become a better team player.

Zion Williamson - I love watching him when he plays, but so far he's played in only about a third of the games in his career. Beyond the injuries, it feels to me that he lacks the maturity or commitment you need from a player of his stature and I don't think you're going to get it.

Stars I'd Be Concerned About

Luka Doncic - I used to enjoy watching him play but he's become a James Harden type of player who is going to age quickly unless he changes the way he cares for himself. Also, name me a good player who is better with Doncic than without him. But he's not going anywhere.

Bradley Beal - Nice player but what have the Wizards done? I'm not putting all the blame on him, but when you're the best player on the team and it's going backwards, not forward, then he deserves some of the blame.

Damian Lillard - See comment regarding Bradley Beal.

Who would be on your list to stay away from?
